Crown Crate Luck

Just dropped 50$ and got the gold eye'd guar as the best reward. I'm hella salty, but it's my own fault and I'm still curious as to everyone else's luck/experiences with crown crates.

    I don't gamble for pixels.
That being said, the only time I bought a crown crate, I calculated my odds of getting amount of gems / the item I wanted beforehand and decided that it was worth it. It was a 16gem costume and worth it to me.

The only useful thing you are guaranteed to get from crates is gems - so that's what I buy them for.

Realistically, I don't buy crates to get the good stuff. If I buy them (extremely rare), it's so I can get between 16 and 40 gems to get a new hat or something.

I definitely do not plan for anything better than that.

Yeah, had horrible luck this time.

Bought 5000 Crowns worth of crates.

If I had not liked most of the rewards, then I wouldn't have expected to get anything I wanted (and wouldn't have bought those crates!), but I liked 8/15 of the legendary rewards and still didn't manage to get any of them.

Similarly, all of the superior rewards I got just happened to be the ones I didn't like/want, as well.

The gem return was pretty poor, too.

It's just too many Crowns to spend to not end up with a couple of things you like (especially with what should be good odds).

It's like they're priced assuming you got them "free", with your sub.

Meaning, if you did pay cash specifically for them, it ends up feeling like a scam.

The only way to hope to beat the odds is to buy about 15000 Crowns worth of crates, so that you then at least can get sufficient Crowns back (due to the increase in duplicates) to buy a few legendary rewards, if you're not lucky with the crates.

But, how many people would want to do that?

That would be about £75 at full Crown price.

I swear the good stuff is programmed to drop for lower cp characters. The "hook" to pull the new players. But us veterns get the shaft.
I had two buddys start playing, they both bought a four pack of crates on day two, each got a mount, one was the apex Skeletal fire wolf.
These two still get mounts every 4 pack they open. Ive witnessed it. Ive bought maybe 150+ crates never one mount.

I never buy crown crates for exactly this reason.

I open the free ones we'd get occasionally and I've gotten a few good drops: the psijic horse was the best, also the white wolf pup which I'd already bought - so I got 1/3 of the gems instead, and a wolf mount which I wouldn't have paid for but do use since it's free.

I've gotten far more stuff which I've never used and would never have paid for (some of which I wish I could delete, or hide, from my collectables menu to get it out the way of the stuff I do use), include once when I got 2 nix-hounds from the same crate. Overall the free crates were more effective at reminding me why I never buy loot boxes than making me think I might have a shot at something I want.

Bought 15 storm crates, prayed to Hircine in his Hunting Grounds and got storm camel. Worst loot ever, I hate camels and can't even use it (I feel sick just watсhing how they run!). I'd like to change it even for one gem!
Promised to feed Pacrooti to the pack.
In next 15 crates got storm wolf, storm guar, second storm camel, clouded sence, bear-dog and imperial mananaut cap :D
From 15 xanmeer crates got lizard horse and trap (one I wanted most).

Usually my luck is much worse and I expect just gems.
Maybe I should always have werewolf pack near when opening crates...

I'm happy to open boxes that I get as giveaways or gained via in-game grinding (like buying lockbox keys in STO via the auction or the Dil/Zen exchange), but I'd never pay $ for the things.

edit: I'm also not interested in ugly mounts. So, of course, I got a Fire Atro mount from one of the free fire boxes. ;)

I've purchased crown crates for 1500 crowns a couple of times. I got the Lightning Atronach horse the first time and got nothing spectacular the second time. From the free crown crate events, I've gotten a couple of Guar mounts and the Black Camel. So from the Gem collecting, I purchased the Ice Wolf mount. I wish the mounts were sold and rotated in the crown store. I'd readily buy!

Yeah losing that $50 today left me with such a bad feeling that I won't buy anymore crates. Never want to feel like that again lol.

The first option is closest to my experience.

I have almost always gotten a few things I am happy with. But I don't go into them with the hope of getting a particular thing.

The only time I have been disappointed was when I bought four crates and three contained the nix-hound, which I already had anyway.

So, has Baron Munchausen shown up on this thread yet? You know, that one person who will claim to have gotten a Radiant Apex mount that they don’t want from a free Crown crate?

I don't know if it's my luck that is terrible or what, but my average reward for a crate is around 5 to 8 gems each. The more crate you open of a single type, the more gems you get, as you will inevitably unlock things you already have. So you start with a yield of 4-5 gems each, and then up to 10 or more, for an average of 8 if you open about 50 crates. The yield might increase if you open more crates or already own some of the rewards, but this isn't some grand calculation I made with big data, just my own experience with my own crates.

The first crate give you a ton of useless potions and buff items, some costumes you'll never use (I still resent the Winterborns costume, that are simply horrible), and then maybe a decent costume or a non apex mount. And if you keep opening them, you'll find the same sh*tty items and costumes and mounts. Items can be converted to gems. Costumes and mounts are auto converted to gems, which slightly increases the gem yield.

But if you're counting on your luck and that alone to get what you want, then don't. If you really want some apex mount, you'll have to get ready to spend a lot. back when Wild Hunt crates were first introduced, I really wanted the wild hunt horse. And I got it. After opening 49 crates. Mind you, I didn't get the horse in a crate, I did just get pretty much every unlock from every lower tiers several times, and thus enough gems to buy the horse. I knew I'd have to spend big on it, and my situation then allowed me to do so, but I vowed to never do that again. That was a total of 16 500 crown, the price of manor house, which by themselves are already way overpriced. For a mount. The only difference between being me and being crazy is that I knew I was doing something stupid.

Recently I bought some crates to top the gems I had from the free crates so I could get the lizard bear. I had counted I'd need 15 crates with my usual luck, and I actually needed 14. Small wonders. And on those 15 crates, Pacrooti gave me a bonus card ONCE. Just once.

But of course, there was also this one free scalecaller crate that gave me the galvanic horse. Luck does happen. Just never count on it, and never take it for granted. Most of the time, you get shafted. If you really want something, make sure you are ready to pay way more than you first thought. Or maybe, start not wanting it.

To be fair, even if you get something descibed as "Radiant Apex", if you don't like it, will never use it and can't sell/gift it, or trade it in for another one, it's still useless.

That is a big part of the problem.

Opened 49 storm crates. Got 2 apex mounts and enough gems to bought lightning guar I actually wanted. However more I spent less good stuff I get from the crates. It does seem like there is some kind of algorithm at work here.
I probably will abstain from buying crates in future, since in the end you get only disappointment and shame for supporting these kinds of business practices.

After I got Psjiik senche from free crates, Scarlet senche from one of the twitch free crates (it's my favorite mount now)
hGwy9Ry.jpg It will look absolutely awesome when it's night in the game
and ugly bone camel from free (again) reaper's crates I can't have any hard feelings about crates RNG in ESO.

The first time I bought crates was just recently when I got 30 storm atro crates with extra gold I had. The main goal was to get... no, not apex... but a ....nixad xD (I love that particular type too much). Got a lot of purple and gold repeating cards, skin, transformation, cub, cool red wolf mount. I had enough gems in the end to get everything I liked in those crates + saved a lot for the future seasons. So I guess as long as someone doesn't chase apex mounts they will be quite satisfied with the results.

I open 4 crates a month and never fail to get at least one mount. Funnily enough I got the golden eyes guar this time, not a fan but it's one for my ever growing collection. Think I've only got 1 apex in the past year though.

The 3 years ive played I have never gotten a radiant apex. I’ve only gotten like 2 apex mounts. I’ve had to buy all the ones I wanted like flame atro wolf, frostbane wolf, psijic etc. Always had to buy them with gems. I don’t buy crates anymore because I never get anything remotely good. Just trash potions and the same skin pattern 6 times in a row.

You must mean me but I'm not German .....

Seriously though got a couple of apex mounts through purchase crates/gems and a radiant from a freebie.

As I'm into the senches and sabre cats getting the radiant horse was meh..... no matter that it was radiant, horse + icy look just doesn't cut it. Still at least it wasn't a camel.

I even put the frost horse with one of my characters because I felt I should be using it, I mean... radiant but I've noticed that most of the time with that character I'm now on foot, go figure.......

I've gotten the occasional one-shot nice thing from free crates, and mostly junk - I don't complain, cuz the crates are free, but I will never voluntarily pay money for a crate - I don't even spend my "free" (they're not really free) crowns on crates

Bought 30 crates with ingame gold, thankfully, and the only thing worth it was the atro transformation (hoping it was longer than 3 mins tho, 10 mins at least would be awesome), also got a lot of crap so I finally got enough to buy one of the storm atro mounts.
