The issue isn't who does and who doesn't have 15.00 in their bank account. Let's not go there. The issue is that they failed or didn't bother to be upfront about what they were going to do, and why.
People are upset about that, the servers, and so on, and they're just shrugging and not addressing it. That's not good either. Even a brief message to let everyone know what they're doing/not doing/are picking their noses and will get to it when they feel like it is better than being ignored.
Myself and a few others have sent off notes to The Consumerist, and one other person at least has contacted the BBB. I will say for myself that had they been upfront about what they were going to do, I would have griped and grouched, (Most MMOs these day don't try to get payment info up front, they wait at least until you're hooked after the 30 days lol) but it would have a lot more respect for them than I do right now.

Or just make sure when you offer more than one payment type you make sure both are WORKING. I'm a tipped employee who doesn't use cards and the GTC are not released yet.
Sorry I had to stop reading there. They're up against a game that is short of a decade old, who has been through all this and learnt from their mistakes. Did you experience WoW's launch ?rayvn03b14_ESO wrote: »They're up against WoW

Frankly I have zero sympathy for anyone about this, I just hope that they learn from it and realize that anytime you are going to have any sort of contract with a company for any type of service you need to read all the fine print.
That part is a problem, I won't argue against that. I'm just irritated with the people that are complaining that they just didn't want to have to put their cards in yet, blah blah blah.jdkorreckpreub18_ESO wrote: »While it didn't go into the auth payment being the full amount of a sub, (and is a highly irregular and weird way of doing things) the fine print on the box and on the web order form did say that a credit card for a subscription or gtc would be required to play. What about those players who read the fine print, intended to use a GTC due to lack of applicable credit card, then were locked out of the game upon discovering that GTC are not available for purchase?
Problem is it is not in ToS which means it is practically a misleading advertisement. 30 days free. Free of charge and free of any other obligations and conditions until said otherwise (which is not in the whole ToS)The folks that irritate me are the ones who are shocked to discover the existence of the pre-auth to start with and are now howling mad. It's been around for years, you just never noticed it. While the full price is a bit odd in this instance, most of the howlers would never have noticed it - it would have fallen off before they ever realized it. Pre-authorizations don't show up on your statements. If you are OCD and check your bank every five minutes you might catch one, but generally they are gone in a matter of hours. If they aren't, it is because your bank is playing fast and loose with them to cause overdrafts* they can charge you for. But because they are reading these threads, folks are acting like the sky is falling with little reason to do so.
* While setting up a savings account the branch manager at my bank convinced me I need overdraft protection for this reason. Banks manipulate ways they handle your money so you pay the most possible in fees. That's why the withdrawals they handle are the biggest. If they can overdraw you with a big transaction they can collect overdraft charges on four or five little ones. Straight from the bankers mouth. If you are afraid of overdrafts from this pre-auth blame it on the bank. The send back from Bethesda seems to be very quick, as a lot of people with good banks have mentioned it dropping off in a short time.

No but they're up against a game that regardless has pretty much sent every other Pay to Play MMO running off squalling to FtP Land pretty quickly, regardless of its own start. They're up against the here and now. If ESO had a chance to butcher WoW, they blew it with the cash shop and this fiasco.

No this means that they're going to require a sub to get the 30 days, it's in the fine print on the box and website.jdkorreckpreub18_ESO wrote: »While it didn't go into the auth payment being the full amount of a sub, (and is a highly irregular and weird way of doing things) the fine print on the box and on the web order form did say that a credit card for a subscription or gtc would be required to play. Credit Card Required for Subscription and Free Game time is one thing, indicating on the subscription transaction page that they will not place a charge on your account, and then not only violating that statement by placing an auth on your account, but also going against industry standard of 0.01 or 1.00 is both inept, and shady. Many can make the argument to their bank that the charge is fraudulent because ZoS did not have informed consent for the charges against the account. Not to mention that the charge can take 3 business days or more to clear. I bank with a major us bank and the charges are still on my account from Thursday. Not spelling out plainly the exact auth charges placed against your account is a violation of same state and international laws. I do have sympathy for people because on the transaction page it says they will not place a charge against your account until your free game time runs out, which is a flat-out lie. Just like they laid about the game engine they were using early in beta.
Another bad move by ZoS that's going to cost them.
As for the authorization, it should have been 1 dollar, however having it for days is your banks issue, mine fell of in six hours.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
30 DAYS UNLIMITED GAME PLAY INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE OF GAME. VALID PAYMENT METHOD OR PAID GAME TIME CARD FOR SUBSCRIPTION AND PERSISTENT INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED.

If you'd put that at the top of your post you'd have saved me many seconds of my life reading the rest .. I even ignored the fatuous reference to WOW, whose player numbers are dropping steadily and WoD's wholesale changes are likely to drive away many more if history is anything to go by.rayvn03b14_ESO wrote: »Myself and a few others have sent off notes to The Consumerist, and one other person at least has contacted the BBB.

When it first came out, not when it was re-released for free. MMO's, not so long. I make the comparisons I do because whether or not you think the game sucks, every other Pay to Play MMO has gone up against them, and has turned around and gone FtP in six months to a year. It doesn't matter if the game We Shall No Longer Mention sucks in your opinion or not, or is bleeding subscribers or not, it's still the one that is the only one remaining Pay to Play. If you can show me one other MMO that isn't a crapfest that has stayed Pay for Play only, then I'll eat my hat, and stfu on this.

Eve Online is still pay to play.
