I agree. It's the 5th year of ESO and they can do better than this.
It's simple really, if you want to magic with any real efficiency, your options are
1: A stick somebody set on fire
2: A stick somebody tied a battery to
3: A stick somebody left in the freezer
4: anti-damage stick
meaning if you don't want to use a *** stick you're outta luck, either go stamina or wallow in low damage, it would be easy enough to sort out, just add in some arcana, which would be hand magic, again in fire, frost and shock variety, but also with one type which is just raw magic damage.
Yeah, i know..kinda rambling mumbling seemingly with no structure but I can't think of a way to explain it,
so tl;dr need more magic weapon cuz zap stick, hot stick, cold stick is not varied enough.

I like to think of it as a combination of q-tip and band-aid soaked in Neosporin. Also comes in trial size.4: anti-damage stick

I agree though the lack of development choices in this game are kind of a snoozefest. I would like to see more options as well like a wand and spellbook combo, bare hand magic, maybe even something new like magical projectiles. Like a magical bow that has a light attack that fires an arrow made of pure magic and whose heavy attack is ballista bolt. The bow would have its own magicka based skill line and it would pair well with ( a slightly revamped) wood elf.
EDIT: I played Rift for a while and the thing i loved about Rift was the amount of options you had in character development. Sure there were meta's there always are in any game. No developer has been able to solve that problem. But i dont play meta and FOTM anyway so it doesnt matter. Nor do you need the best build to do end game content in any game. You might need it to be on leaderboards but only a very small amount of the playerbase cares about being competitive on that level. The rest of us would just like options....like i remember from Rift. If we cant kill a mudcrab with the build that is on us, but this game as a severe lack options. Great story, awesome looking world, but character development is like developing the character of a pet rock...but with less options.

It's realisticallyagainst
- One hand
- Both hands separately
- Two hands together
- Bow
because those are the weapon skill lines. The dagger/sword/axe distinctions are as meaningful as fire/shock/frost for the staves. Yes, it does make a few differences, but they're details, not fundamentals. And all characters get to cast spells (aka abilities) regardless of whether their hands are full.

You can be a Sorcerer and carry a warhammer. Weapon and class are independent, unlike some games that won't let clerics use edged weapons.
