Idea: let Hirelings harvest our survey maps

Hirelings - some people love them, some do not, but most people probably just don't care about them. I have them working for me on one of my characters and they are "meh" at best. For me they actually feel like a waste of skill points. Their letters are entertaining, often funny but the materials they send you are lackluster. Every time I claim the attached crafting materials after reading their diary entries, the same thought comes into my mind: "So, you are telling me you have been in the woods, searching for ingredients, ALL day long and all you found was one bottle of water and three mushrooms? It seems like you are the employee of the month". The blacksmithing hirelings are even worse.

But I just had this idea. Why can't they go harvest the survey maps for us? It's tedious to always go after them ourselves. We can't even gather everything at once, if we have the same survey multiple times. No, we have to travel to X, gather all of the ingredients, teleport to the nearest wayshrine, run all the way back to X, gather everything again, teleport back, rinse and repeat. What do we have these hirelings for? Why can't they do it for us? It's not like they have too much do anyway. I mean they suck at their job!

In my opinion it would be a nice Quality of Life feature and it would also strengthen the immersion. What do you guys think about it?

Well, as regards the duplicated maps, you can just run or ride some distance away, and return. Or log out and back in - that's sometimes just as fast for me. I like doing the maps on my girls though....

Interesting idea. There are a few people I know who actually enjoy doing surveys however. I do agree with your point on having multiple of the same maps.

I like doing the maps. It is filler while I wait for the group finder. However adding a right click option to assign a survey to a hireling would be a good way to add QoL for those who don't.

Actually, that's a really GOOD idea! For times during events when NO ONE has time to keep up with the survey map drop rate. Which seems to be increased over the last few months for some reason.... When I got through with New Life, my girls were sitting on 150+ maps....

I'd pay 10k crowns for a hireling to do surveys, so long as it had the harvesting passive.

I would also pay to not have to collect my own surveys manually. Please let me just trade them in somewhere.

This is something that would definitely make me drop points in the hirelings. I have them unlocked and maxed in one character and I think they sent me one gold mat in the last few months. One. Most times it's a bunch of runes I have hundreds of, white/green mats, or 5 bits of raw wood.

Surveys, I get a few every day. Since they take bag space and also consume time to harvest, I tend to dump them all in one alt and when her bag is literally taking nothing more, I force myself to 'waste' a full day's worth of gameplay just to pick them up. Yes the mats are good. But all the traveling (and having to reset the area for multiple maps to refresh) is not. By the way the enchanting survey in Craglorn - Spellscar still has a tendency to not spawn at all unless I reset the area a pair of times. But I digress.

Really wish I could give one map a day to each profession's hirelings and they'd return the mats instead of 5 [Corn] and 10 [Yerba Mate]. I know there are no surveys for provisioning, but still. The other ones could definitely work and would take a load off from chasing maps.

It would be nice if those skill points actually did something that's for sure!

This is an outside-the-box, simple yet great idea.

To be fair to those manually doing their surveys (which takes forever when you have a lot of toons crafting and have just been banking them a while), it should be an option and it should result in significantly less resources than doing it manually.

Even with getting less resources I know I'd still occasionally pick the option to have my hirelings go do it for me.

Yep. That's a fair trade-off. I would definitely be on board for this, just FOR all those maps that drop during events.... it took me a couple of weeks to catch up.... hirelings would have been a DAEDRA-SEND! (Don't hit me....)

[Edit for stupid typo - it's late, I'm REALLY tired.... Too long a day shopping, with me doing most of the heavy lifting into the carts. At least Costco has the cart guys - one of them loaded everything into the truck. And then a good friend came by late afternoon to move the really heavy stuff into the basement. I'm really hoping that husband's back is "all better" when he sees the doc the end of the month - stuff that wouldn't have been a problem for me 20 years ago.... well.... I CAN do it but it's really hard. The major issue is the hike up the hill 150 feet to the basement.... I can do that - but not carrying 40 pounds of dog food!]

This reminds me of a player I ran into when I first started this game who told me he was a "crafting slave" for another player and this is exactly the kind of service he performed for his "master".

If anyone is into that kind of role play on PS4, just drop me a PM...
