So there's been a lot of hype about "dragons" being part of the datamined content, but what if everyone is making the wrong assumption about the definition of what a "dragon" is?

From the datamine: ESO reaches new heights of storytelling with a war against the Dragons that unfolds and builds over four quarterly releases to an unexpected climax.

Now we know that in the letter sent out, Abnur Tharn signed it "High Chancellor" and if we look at the following tidbit from Elder Scrolls lore
  • The Order of the Dragon was an illustrious order of knights founded by the first emperor of the Empire of Tamriel, Tiber Septim. Being accepted into the Order was considered an immensely high honor; it seemed that one could only be accepted into the Order by the emperor himself or an extremely high ranking Imperial official, such as the High Chancellor of the Elder Council.

The highest rank one could achieve in the Order was that of Champion of Cyrodiil.

Perhaps we will be revisiting the Order of the Dragon (new PvP skill line?) and waging a new battle for Cyrodiil instead of the Three Banner's War?

Yeah, it's a stretch, but Abnur's comments about ending the Three Banner War, his position as High Chancellor, the relationship between the Order of the Dragon and Cyrodiil/Imperial City, and the datamine of "dragons" seems like one heck of a coincidence. Feel free to destroy my suppositions here, but just figured I'd add a new twist to trains of thought going into the official announcement next week.

Well, it's kind of hard for it to not be dragons when this is datamined.

Sure, you could say that it's just to throw us off, but that would be a pretty cruel thing to do since they know that players like Dragons and have been asking for them pretty much as long as they've been asking for Nercomancers and Elsweyr. To find out they've been trolling us would really make a lot of players mad.

I personally don't care much about Dragons, seen enough of them in Skryim and I'm much more interested in Elsweyr and Khajiit culture of the Chapter, but still, that would be pretty underhanded of ZOS for the many players that do want them lol.

An interesting theory, and I like the way you're thinking outside of the box here, but this part is a problem:

Tiber Septim hasn't been born yet. He's the one who ended the constant fighting in Cyrodiil that's going on right now in ESO. So if he founded the Order of the Dragon and he hasn't yet been born, this can't be referring to the Order of the Dragon.

Tiber Septim isn't alive yet and wont be around for another 200 years. I don't see them jumping that far into the future so I can comfortably call this theory, Dead.

Would be a poor marketing strategy to imply something as awesome as "dragons" to a fan base made up of a lot of people who discovered this game series via skyrim (hi please dont take this as me implying that there aren't a ton of people who have been playing this series for much longer but I have to disclaim that because internet) and then not follow through with actual dragons.

Well, I'm not sure, but Abnur, as a Nibenese guy, wouldn't like Tiber Septim. Maybe he somehow saw in the future and deemed Tiber's rise a threat more dangerous than current events. Calling him and his followers the dragons?

Just speculating stuff that is extremely unlikely to happen btw! :p

Maybe its like a time rewind thing. You use the amulet of kings, get transported into some prior emperors shoes and kill a dragon through memory.
