Lets assume for a second spell crafting was coming. How would you like it done in the game?

P.S come talk about it more in unofficial Community discord for ESO. https://discord.gg/PVaRhb6

Honestly, as awesome as being able to create my own spells and abilities as I'd like, I don't think a free range spell-crafting system would work well classes in general. It would either be severely under-powered compared to the ready-made abilities, or make said abilities obsolete, imo.

I could see it working if it was significantly powered, while also being limited enough to keep the normal abilities relevant.

Get a whole bunch of basic things that determine the skill such as "single target", "pet", "frost damage" and put them together in an order maybe there are 5 things you have to combine to make the skill. Maybe it could be highly customisable. The cost would probably be determined by how many things you put into the skill.

While I think spellcrafting would be fun, it concerns me that it just adds one more issue to the game that Zos has been challenged to manage. There have been a number of occasions Zos made changes to the game without thinking things through and this is just another chance for them to mess up one more time.

    So I am cautious.

Exactly how Nick Konkle said in Quakecon 2014. Each spell may have a perfect tablet or fractured pieces spread all over Tamriel . With six focus types for each spell, engraved on stone which is tradable. Maybe tie in with Winterhold and the College too not just Eyevea. No Additional grinds please ZOS, Please!

Adding more spells as different regions open up. Like new gear sets to give more incentive for people to buy DLC or sub.

I would rather the skills be underpowered than overpowered. I think they should be boring. Much like warden skills. Boring. Raw. Us ice mages need a ranged ice spammable. This is what we would use spell crafting for.

They will mess it up and ruin the game even more. So yeapers, fix the mess that is the game now or improve it at least.

This too. I mean, it would be nice to have a new intriguing storyline with a new dlc or added ones to existing dlcs. I really would rather not see anymore things added in at the moment to mess with their fragile concept of balance because they're using a sledgehammer instead of a paint brush. :)

They ruin the game every new addition anyway. Since they will keep making additions i think its fair to say that we should hope for the least game breaking addition.

Not sure adding spell crafting is such a good idea. How many times do we read about "imbalance". Spell crafting could add to this perception of imbalance.

Like they intended, which is basically new skill lines for the magic schools with ~5 morphs per skill.
I see no argument against this unless you reject all new skill additions to the game.

I was thinking about this earlier and they did say at one point that it wouldn't happen right, so what if they did it more like a quest line, like, go fetch these parts and turn them in here but they are handled more like the Psijic skill line and you get whatever skills/passives instead of a whole spell crafting system. Not that I necessarily like this idea, it just crossed my mind as a I bet if they did it, it would look more like this than the original plan. I didn't really love leveling the Psijic skills, so I'm not sure how awesome it would be to do something similar so soon.

By permanently discarding the idea and never doing it.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

preferably not at all. Said it a mil times already on the other threads. Its either going to need so many restrictions on it that players wont like it or bother using it and it will be a dead feature like jc or its going to massively break the game.

If they are going to do it I would say they need to break it into 3 different slots essentially. Damage type ( direct, aoe or dot), damage type ( Fire, frost, lighting, magic etc. NO OBLIVION DAMAGE WHAT SO EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE) and an effect slot ( buff, debuff, stun, dot debuff)

even then i think it will over power class skills and make them obsolete and further homogenize gameplay.

Spell crafting is a nice fun idea with no good way to implement it and it should not be in the game.

I'd rather it be kept to the single player titles. They're already struggling enough as it is 'balancing' the current skills in this game. Adding spell crafting on top would either be an absolute mess, or watered down to the point that it'll be a shell of the idea, and will just *** off everyone who wanted it in the game.

You either go all out on an idea, or you don't bother at all.

    Immediately.

The shift now is for things like spell-craft to be put in and for customization options to increase.

Basically, finally make this single player ES online.

I've been waiting since 2004 lol

So there shouldn't be any more skills coming at all? How boring would that be? Right now there is no build diversity. This game could very well use more diversity, even for the sake of balancing (this game has never been balanced and will never be).

According to the plan The Konk originally described to us.

As for the balance argument? I really don’t care. Thanks to that argument we’ve suffered 4+ years for the nerf/buff cycle. It will never happen. ZOS has no incentive to ever get it right. Quite the opposite in the case of racials.

Competitive content is where most of the problems seem to come from. As far as I am concerned, and one more to the pile. The overall level of complaining will be unchanged.

    Spellcrafting soon please!

    Just want to say YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This years potential has me hyped beyond belief and so to ZOS I say go for it! No game will ever be perfectly balanced, it’s impossible. More choice is always better because the more variables you add the more counters will inevitably emerge. I’ve played hundreds of games and dozens on mmos and to me this the best by a large margin, can’t wait to see what we get 😊

Firstly I’m hopping for ability crafting, not just spells, divines know stam builds are homogenous enough as it is. We need something to add more spectacle. More fire and thunder! We don’t need more power, what we need is more options. Why do you thing there are so few build videos being made these days and those that are it’s just the same setups going round in circles? Why bother when you can just update the sets in the last lot of meta guides on a website? All the top end stam builds are just facets of the same mirror, we need choices and hopefully that’s what’s coming.

    Basics like
Does it use stamina or magic?
    What element is associated?
    What’s the trade off?
Something to give hybrids a chance? Maybe it uses the highest weapon or spell penetration, or weapon and spell critical? Always seemed dumb to have those seperate in the first place, all it does is bottle up choices, pelinals set showed the game has the code to do it so why not!

Keep it simple, personally I just want to change the effects type on my stamina dk from boring, tedious poison back to fire, the way it was supposed to be. I don’t want a foe to keel over, I want her to belt them with a huge, burning blade and have them go whump and turn into a little pile of ash. I don’t want more power, I just want my beloved stam dk to be the fire spewing embodiment of armoured fury that I remember, if I wanted poison I would have played an assassin.
