Idea for Spellcrafting

Hey everyone, I've got an idea for Spellcrafting :)

I know there may be first concepts already, but still I would like to discuss the idea.

The issue with Spellcrafting 'in the classical sense' is that it can lead to strong imbalances which will certainly go out of control for every developer. Therefore I was thinking about something which is not that difficult to implement, will certainly not create much balancing issues and is still be very interesting to use, by making everyone think about their selection of spells.

The main idea is to make it a crafting skill for consumables (scrolls) to turn your quickslot button into a time-limited additional skill button. Because quickslot buttons can be changed in combat, one can even switch to something else for specific situations.

It works basically by selecting a skill of your knowledge (which you did researched, see below) and copy this skill into scrolls using specific ingredients (parchment, ink, ...). One may create several scrolls at once, similar to poisons, and this amount may depend further on passives. In the lower levels of spellcrafting one can only copy lower ranks of the skill, while highest ranks can grant you the ranked morphed version(s).

When used, a scroll disappears after a reasonable time limit. I have in mind something up to a couple of minutes, depending on the circumstances and passives. During that period of time, one can use the skill from the scroll as often as possible while spending the resources.

To avoid imbalances, I suggest two options:
1) You can not use traded scrolls belonging to a different class ability than your own. (the solution I would prefer for now)
2) Alternatively one can significantly increase the resource cost of such a class-different scroll.
This would perhaps be more in line with the previous Elder Scrolls games in which your character can basically learn and use everything, while maintaining ESO class identity.

To find your spells in your inventory, you will get a 'spellbook' tab. The scrolls should indicate their effect by an icon which is similar to the corresponding skill.

Ingredients:
- Parchment.
Either only one version exists or versions from common to legendary. They may determine the duration of the scroll.
- Specific ink determining the rank of the spell.
These two things can be found in desks, special bookcases or other typcial containers.
- Effect
An ability of your knowledge which you did researched. No ingredient should be necessary for this.

Research:
- Research a skill/morph from a book of Hermaeus Mora. The books are scattered around the world, preferably in places of ancient knowledge.

Passives:
- See resource nodes in the world (better).
- Being able to copy a different morph than what you currently posess.
- Hireling
- Improves the number of copies of the scrolls you create
- Improves the time limit of the scrolls
- Being able to copy an ultimate ability

Furnishment:
- Lights, movement, sounds, ...

Let me know your opinion!

    Hello,

I support this idea. I really wish they implement spellcrafint at some point.

A while ago I had another idea regarding spellcrafting: What if spellcrafting was intendend to change the look of your spell?
This would not create other balance issues at all.

The clan fear could become a frost atronach, the familiar a flame atronach. The bear could become a wolf etc.

Oh well, one can only dream....Someday though...
And so the Elder Scrolls foretold. You will be shy, and I will be bold.
