If Steam is the source of the ongoing problem why can’t ZOS pull the game from the platform and allow all players to use Bethesda login accounts.

It's obvious that it's definitely not Steam

It was probably needed to "fix" the dungeon finder. They simply blocked steam players from joining and they have easy excuse that it's Steam issue not theirs.

It is their issue though, they have chosen Steam as a platform to spread their game and the platform doesn't work.
This means that if the problem is at Steam than they need to sit down with Steam and find out what the problem is when ZOS release updates, because it's not Steam Updates, its ESO updates.
ZOS are simply obligated to fix it, especially when they sell a subscription to their game.
And seeing the longevity of this downtime we can and should demand a short explanation to what is going on.

Of course they will write in the morning when i expect this to be fixed that we can now log in and it's all well, but it isn't all well though is it, this is recurring time and again and therefore we should get an explanation what is wrong and why it takes almost a full day to fix each time.
As I said, many of us is on a subscription and need a security that when we pay they will deliver, just like, tv, electricity, water, (insert whatever) you pay on a monthly basis for.

(Edit, bugger, misread the message that i quoted, eh, the meaning of my message is still valid i guess.)

At this point ZOS should allow steam users the option to directly download the game from the website and access it outside of their steam account.

It's disgusting that they haven't actually.

Well.... I started with steam because a friend suggested it. I quickly found out that my "broadband" connect (satellite) PLUS steam was a disaster. I subbed on June 8, could never ONCE get logged in, and on June 26 I contacted ZOS CS, after having bought the "vanilla" (that is, not steam) version of the game (on sale for $10 US) from the ZOS store.

They had me up and running and in game on June 27 with no need to use steam ever in future. I'll never touch steam again. I never wanted to mess with steam at all, just it's necessary for Skyrim. Skyrim is the last thing I'll ever use that needs steam, I don't care how much I want to play something. Though I do have to say that there's really nothing on steam I want to play.... other than Skyrim and ESO - and now I don't need steam for ESO, yay!

almost a full day to fix each time.

It's not a full day. Patch begin at 10h to go 16h on mine local time. So it's already 6hour of work for the guys behind, and considering it's a saturday ( now sunday) don't expect to get all the crew on the board to fix dat.

After a patch the game is different and somehow steam has a problem with that and the login server. Nothing Zos can do about it, like us they must sit and wait till steam reset their login servers. Steam can't be arsed to reset theiur servers just because some game has been updated, they think problem must be with zos updates. Here in the UK it is now 12.19am. It still won't log in to the PC EU server. I logged in to PC NA again, logged out, then tried PC EU again, unsuccessfully. A whole day of downtime. This is ridiculous.

I work for a big brand that only sell over the webb, if our services would of some reason crash during weekend I do indeed expect our bosses to call us and say we need this up and running now (ofc with overtime payment).

Can't you just download the direct launcher and logon to the game? You have an account with ZOS you can logon with otherwise you wouldn't be able to play the game.

There's a date cutoff I think - something to do with when you bought the steam version of the game? Or maybe the vanilla version? Not sure. I had to buy a second game from ESO store in order to get around steam back in June. I was perfectly happy to do so, others' MMV of course.

ZoS no doubt has contracts with steam that would make this impossible. Further more, ZoS needs to keep a healthy reputation with Steam for future business relations, hence why this issue is so hush-hush on their part . I hate that this is how it is but it is what it is.

It could also be that Steam holds a cached copy of the ZOS login database somehow (in simple terms) so that way everytime someone logins via steam that steam doesn't have to keep sending requests directly to ZOS login database server backend. this would make sense to do this due to high volume.

Perhaps when ZOS updates the game it takes time for this cached information to be updated. Much like how DNS servers cache DNS requests for a set amount of time to speed up name resolution (why should your ISP DNS servers resolve google.com again when another customer just requested that domain 3 minutes ago) that would be very inefficent and slow.

I suspect btoh steam and ZOS need to tweak things a bit, but finding a fix to things like this isn't always easy. Its tough, hopefully they can get something sorted out.

Hardly they can understand something. For 5 years to create such a pirated game, it is necessary to be able to, they definitely have talent.

So on Sunday morning ZOS have this message at the top of the forum screen:

The issues related to logging in to the North American PC/Mac megaserver have been resolved at this time. If you continue to experience difficulties at login, please restart your client. Thank you for your patience!

The PC NA server was slow to get onto but we could get on to it on Saturday. It is the PC EU server that we just could not get into. So now ZOS does not even mention that there is or was a problem on PC EU. Does it still need to be resolved? Again, they never communicate what the problem is/was or how they have taken action to make it less likely to happen again. So it will continue to happen again, most likely.

That's only true if you bought the game through Steam before November 2016, or made a ZOS account before that and then linked your Steam account to it. After that date ZOS changed the method of account creation, so if you buy the game on Steam, and log in, you simply don't have a ZOS account - and that means you can't even log in without Steam. The only solution for that is buying a new copy of the base game through ZOS and activating it on your account which was linked to Steam. That way you will get a proper ZOS account and you can use the ZOS launcher directly. I'm lucky since I had a ZOS account thanks to the ESO beta which I used later during free weekends, so when I got a Steam key for ESO from the Humble Monthly, I was able to use it with that account. I didn't plan to buy ESO through Steam, and it seems I am still lucky with my old account to exist...

This seems like way too big of an on-going *** up to just throw an "it is what it is" at. The fact is, the only real fix for the problem is to buy a second "copy" of the game. Does that not scream "SCAM" to anybody else?

Also if steam needs to update and I am logged into ESO my game crashes its not just log in that has an issue.

From what I understand, Steam inserts an additional login server into the mix. When that thing flakes out, everything goes. So, Steam will say, "can't log in? That's a ZOS problem," while ZOS will tell you, "no, it's Steam's stuff that's on the fritz."
