Dude, are you part of ZOS marketing with all these question threads, or just trying to bump your forum points? ;)

Event is standard MMO xmas stuff as far as I'm concerned.

I do like cannonballing into the water...don't know why, just do. :)
My accountant told me to invest my money in bonds. So I bought 100 copies of Goldfinger.

Unicorns and cannonballs, palaces and piers
Trumpets, towers and tenements, wide oceans full of tears.
Flags, rags ferryboats, scimitars and scarves
Every precious dream and vision, underneath the stars.

I was listening to people in game talk about them so had me wondering things. What ascepts do people enjoy about quests? What makes people disengaged from them? What other factors influence enjoymrnt of seasonal quests. So yeah... just care about about community and talk a lot.

This being the second or third time I’ve done it I’ve not found it that engaging. I just wanted my writs for achievement and then won’t do anymore other than 1 per day for ticket/mystery box.

The quests for a first timer i imagine are ok, not too long, rewards are good if you don’t have the mementoes or motif. I still use mud ball pouch today.

It’s difficult to balance but I’d rather not repeat the same exact format every year but also like the fact newer players get the original achievements.

The major plus is it’s not dependent on group finder so you can actually do it when you want!

ESO is really good with solo experience compared to other games in my experience. Would new achievements help you enjoy it more each year? How do you feel about rewards overtime that keep stocking up in market? Should something be done with rewards? What if it costed to preserve them...aka hoard them?

    Are you having fun?

No, not really - but, that is because it's the weekend and I was also porting someone around, so the endless load screens became practically the entire game.

Plus, huge lag spikes when trying to do other content.

Do you feel in the spirit?

    Maybe on the first day.

    Do you like rewards?

Well, I don't really want an ice skin for my current main (Bosmer), but I might use it for a Khajiit, or something, in future.

So, I'm debating whether to do the writs, or sell them.

The rest of the rewards are good.

I like the bathing suit (although, it could be slightly longer on the right side, at the back...) and the fire-eating and sword swallowing momentos are fun.

    Motifs are always welcome.

What is your favorite part about event?

    Probably the ice plunge.

    It's all, potentially, fairly fun.

The main issue is being made to fight over quest items.

    That is never fun.

    How could event be improved?

Would be nice if it dropped baubles (and other decorations), Christmas/New Life lights and a star for the top of the tree. :D

Ideally, it would also drop a (plain) Christmas/New Life tree, as well.

I realise this would challenge the Crown store one - athough, the finished tree would cost far more furnishing slots (and effort to assemble) than that one does.

I think just adding to the event every year so if it’s your 4th year you have a new set of activities, quests and achievements to do and if you want you can do the previous 3 years. That allows newer players to still get the old and new achievements/rewards but also gives older players the chance to do something new.
That’s the main thing for me, whether it’s this or the jesters festival it’s just lift and shift from last year and a bit more effort from ZoS would go a long way to making it more enjoyable.

I agree the solo play is really good in the game though and I do like the fact they can be done quick and don’t have a skill cap on them so can be repeated on your alts regardless of level or experience.

Not sure I understand what you mean on rewards overtime though?

I'm not having fun. It's a chore. It's teleport from the quest giver, run a bit, do something that takes a few seconds and then run back, teleport to the quest giver.. it's just 90% of the time running from place to place and spending time on a loading screen!
The event is the exact same thing as it's always been, with the exception of a reward that wont be available after the event ends.

It could be improved by having Proper quests.
Have a quest chain, something that makes me want to engage in the quest, instead of being engaged in "what's the fastest possible way to run from point A to point B?". There is absolutely no challenge, thus making the reward making it feel "meh.."

It's ok in my book, due to the daily repetitiveness and the fact there are 9 quests it has to be short. On the other hand I am disappointed in the rewards and general feeling of the event, it doesn't really feel like Christmas to me compared to the Halloween event where you can run around as a skeleton and you are swimming in spooky rewards to decorate your place.

For instance maybe the 9 dailies should have all taken place in Eastmarch to keep the wintery feeling, give an emote for the bonus XP that feels like more Christmas rather than drinking a beer and belching, etc.

A tedious chore. But I have done three of these festivals, so they ought to mix it up a bit year on year IMO.

If the business plan is to retain players (big assumption of course) then success of that plan requires you keep giving them something new.

I've been lurking a bit on this forum, so thought id start with this.

Thoragaal has it right with the quest chain.
The whole thing is 9 dailies you need to do for a random RNG drop of Writs for the skin then you need to find mats Heartwood / Regulus etc which is farming as no-one sells them they sell out instantly, or the RNG motifs for the seasonal armor and RNG for the mementos.

I used to play Guildwars 1 and 2 and that game is far superior when it comes to how they handle content and storytelling.

They decorate their cities for events and have themed minigames Mag King Thom for Halloween, Wintersday emote play with their version of Santa, even going as far as turning all characters into stick figures on April 1, rather than just adding a npc somewhere with a rotation of dailies.

As for the quest chain they do this by having a bunch of quests that take you all round the world as a seasonal storyline which takes a while to do, each week the next part opens up as it would be a 4 part chain one segment per week, but with the previous parts accessible to those that missed out.

For example mby the Char or a bunch of bandits want to run Wintersday, so you would do the storyline to save Wintersday.
Mby in here the Daedra masters plan to disrupt New Life and there could be a storyline about that.
And next year would be a different storyline etc etc to keep things fresh.

At the end of the month doing the storyline chain would grant you the seasonal reward the title "Savour of Wintersday" New Life here, the skin in this case or a mount or something along with holiday fun items which were added around the world as a random drop, candy canes etc that give you temporary bonuses and fun effects.

In both games the boxes stacked and could be awarded all over the place especially the festival emote events, if you messed up you got coal, so I remember collecting 100+ present boxes and opening them for all the goodies.

This is how there living world system works which is ongoing story content in the game, a ongoing story with the existing world where if they want to add a new area or something they do it through it this story but usually it takes place in the existing world.
This way it's part of the end game and ongoing content rather than just grinding and rotation of dailies etc which they also have it also keeps players playing than playing the content and not logging in until the next major content / dlc update.

I miss those seasonal storyline events in this game even though I just started a few weeks back.
They also do snowball fights similar as our mudball fights but your whole skillbar changes to the preset snowball skills.

As for that game and ZOS that is also a buy once and play without any extra fees game, they do also have a cash gem shop called the Black Lion Trading Company, however they can do living world and ongoing stories and decorate their towns just fine so it's not that ZOS doesn't have the funds or that it's not a ongoing sub etc, so they can't do it as that game is also pay once and has a far less focus on their store and can.
If you had enough gold you can convert to gems in that game via a buy sell currency system which varies price based on demand.

Event is just like what an event should be imo. Easy quests for everyone, lots of rewards(old players got them long ago but they can't keep changing them every year anyway), no overwhelming grinds...

I've been doing this event since the first time but i still enjoy yoloing into water lol. Apart from that i'm not having lots of fun or sth but it's expected. I'm a filthy endgamer who did these quests like hundreds of times already.

I'm having fun, but I'm only running the quests on one toon per day. If I tried to shove my three alts through it every day, things would get really old really fast. This is also only my first year, so I'll probably sound like a jaded old crank in a year or two.

I actually like the variety of races and philosophies that are behind the quests. The whys of questing are huge for me, not so much the hows. Rewards are pretty decent too which doesn't hurt.

Would be nice if they offered a new motif. Also some Christmas decorations for housing. But it is what it is, good ol’ ZOS grind. Wish they’d at least let us earn boxes from PvP as well.

I would have loved that event during the first weeks or months in this game, I like the approach of the quests and there should be more quests like this in the game (without killing stuff). Strangely I missed it last year, but I think at that time I was on a break playing another mmo. Now it's mostly a grind, just getting the loot boxes. I am mostly after the Mysterious Event boxes from undaunted event compensation, as I really like to have all those DLC motif style pages. I don't care for the skin.

I think the quests are funny. Sadly is that it becomes repetitive after doing it every year, every day.
I do feel a holiday spirit when doing the quests, especially when in a snowy area.

Well, to address a few things.....
You said you are new, so let me ask, how much do you know about TES Lore?
The festivals in ESO are based off of the 56 holidays that are found in TES lore, which is over 20 years of lore, not "real world" holidays.
    Example:
New Life Festival - 25th Evening Star
The New Life festival comes a few days early in Wayrest with Saturalia, traditionally held on the 25th of Evening Star. Originally a holiday for a long forgotten god of debauchery, it has become a time of gift giving, parties, and parading. Visitors are encouraged to participate.
For information on how this festival was percieved in 2nd Era Tamriel, see From Old Life to New.

As far as Zo$ doesn't have the funds, well they had a SuperBowl ad for Morrowind release at a cost of 4 mill $ per 30 sec's, and they also did a "Million Dollar Giveaway" 3 years ago, and Zenimax Media, the parent company has a net worth of 2.5 billion dollars as of 2016. So no, they aren't broke.

As far as the event, I'm so burnt out on the grind I can't even express it. Events were never back to back like the last 4, with only a few days between some. The feathers, tickets, broke mechanics, and the whole new direction of grind, grind, and new content coming, grind, that we have seen since just after Morrowind and especially since Summerset is just burn out waiting to happen.
(Lol... I still have 75+ of each of the 3 fish for the Shadowfen Fishing Quest, that tell ya how many times I've done this before?) :)
My advise to ZoS is in my spoiler.....

I don't know too much on the lore but I did play Morrowind Oblivion and Skyrim a little never completed them but loved the stories and journeying.

As for real world holidays etc that's fine Guildwars uses a similar system to real life but I am sure that ZoS could so less grindy holliday stuff for the Tamriel lore and do stuff to make the parties more prominent with their own quests and stories etc doesn't need to be a daily repeating grind fest doing which looking at this thread most are tired with even you.

Thats where as above a storyline or a month long thing that changes as you progress it would freshen things up than dance dance, fish, jump off cliffs and wayshrine around to 1 min events every day for 20 days per character.

Well they aren't broke as you pointed out so they could do less grindy things even a Elder Scrolls style ongoing storyline that changes each month could entice players and give out new skins etc.

Are you having fun? - Yes, I really do. I enjoy the New Life Festival

Do you feel in the spirit? - Almost every quest contributes to spirit. Snow Bear Plunge is the best for me - show, Nords dancing in their towels

Do you like rewards? I have them all collected during previous years. I like Skinchanger motif, bath towel and all the mementos. A new skin is yet to be collected

What is your favorite part about event? Snow Bear Plunge and fishing

How could event be improved? Well... To add more wasps at Betnik, all around the islands.

Ehh, for me.. after three times of this, really same old, same old. it's all about the double xp. So another chance to level up straggling skills. However, really no issue this year. Good job from ZOS and the designing team. Heck, last year the Bergama sprint was bugged throughout the entire event for PS4. The timer kept resetting after each time you lit the fire and you couldn't get the achievement. They didn't fix it at all. The first year it was just plagued with extreme lag and crashes.

So far so dandy this round. I'm glad they got it right this time. So entertaining, however, on how peeps are so hyped about the writ and skins that so many have already dropped hundreds of thousands on each. Especially, since there are 20 days worth of this event. Ha ha ha

More events, have a choice of three different events per race, and give out a random one each day per character... like, for the dunmer, dance the lava foot stomp in stonefalls, OR do pilgrimages in Deshaan, OR have some celebration in VVardenfell (obviously that one will only pop up if you own the expansion)... or for the Orcs, do the Stonetooth bash on Betnik, or join with some wood orc festival drinking contest in Reman's Bluff, or go join a wrestling competition ijn Orsinium (if you have the DLC)... and so on...

And give out double rewards when you do the one matching your character race. Heck, maybe make it less grindy by giving higher rewards but less quests all across the board...

Including imperial events. Even if you have to go to cyrodil for them. Possibly even have some sort of PvP-truce around those areas (like, make Bruma a no-PvP zone for the festival only - but PvP resumes the moment you step out of the town limits) for the duration of the festival (this has happened in WW1 IIRC, well, for christmas even at least)

Quests are funny... for the first time. But it's a nightmare grind. It's hard to collect a single writ with just one character.
Also, I would like to see garlands in cities and bards with holiday music.
Oh, and I don't like rewards at all. Mystic boxes are fine, light sources - okay, but repeatable recipes and motives...

Either don't add cheap RNG based achievements with rewards like that (skin) or give us ability to buy rare event items at NPC vendor for event tickets.

Btw. I really fear that they will do the same stuff at pretty every event now. And with that horrible RNG those writs have (yes I did like 81 quest so far and got like 4 writs. Literally golden runeboxes are more common than those blue writs). Seriously, if only prices on those event crafting writs were reasonable (something like 10 - 20K) I would simply go & buy the rest of them.

I am enjoying it but it is early into the fest. I can sense an impending doom of boredom about to bear down upon me. The loot has bee good. Quests fun and imaginative. However I am only doing the full quest line daily on one toon. The other six are just being gradually taken through it. In the future I think that it would be nice to have a larger quest pool that the dailies are pulled from to provide variety. Also perhaps a special quest each day that does not repeat. Variety is the never-to-be-nerfed OP weapon against the agents of Molag Boredom.

After doing them all before I find this incredibly boring, typical lazy content. BBBOOooooORRRIIIiinjNMJNGGGG

I used to play Guildwars 1 and 2 and that game is far superior when it comes to how they handle content and storytelling.

I'm sorry you lost me completely there, "GW1 and GW2 have better content and storytelling than ESO!" In what alternate earth did you come from 0.o

    Back to Op tho;
The quests were interesting the 1st time, but now they are just meh. Although Ive been doing them every year now so that makes them boring for me. Some new questing content for the older players would be great.

I just play for the xp and the skin from the event at this point.

They're pretty basic, but at least we actually get content for this festival, unlike the others which are all doing the same quests/bosses etc. we do all the rest of the year for some extra rewards.

I also like that there's a variety of activities. It would be nice if we could choose between them instead of getting assigned a random one.

But it's still not much compared to festivals in other games I've played. I guess that's good because it means I can get it done quickly and go on to other things, but it feels a little disappointing.

I wish the reward boxes were more Winter Holiday / Yule / Seasonal / Christmassy and would contain items from the holiday furnishings set (especially the wreaths, the trees, snowmen, and the cookies) along with the holly/berry hats. (The hats are already gone from the crown store so I couldn't put the name.)
