Auction house is a must!

An auction house is literally the last thing this game needs. I love seeing people selling stuff in zone chat and people advertising for trading guilds. Brings me back to the EQ EC tunnel days.

No, an AH is detrimental to every game it has ever touched, get out there and socialize and find some trade guilds. No reason to empower 0.01% of the population and let them have control over the entire economy a la WoW or GW2.

There are plenty of games with broken auction houses out there if you want to deal with them.

    Here's a thought:
    • When quests/bosses are tough you band together with other players, heading into dungeons or similar together to complete content you otherwise would not be able to solo. Friendships sometimes form, players interact with each-other, sometimes players call on those players again next time, stronger friendships develop, maybe even a static group might form, etcetera etcetera. This of course doesn't happen always, but it would never happen if you could complete the content alone.
    • The same is true in a way for trading currently in the game; It's tougher than many other MMO games. In those you can mindless sell and buy goods without interacting with anyone else. The situation as it is now in ESO stimulates you more to interact with others, perhaps forming friendships with crafters you'll go back to again and again to purchase items from. In fact you might even start selling or giving raw materials to these crafters you buy from to help them in their trade. You interact with other players, friendships form that might evolve beyond the initial crafting premise. A win-win situation.

It's what MMOs should be all about; player-player interaction. And the current system in-game fosters that so much more than any traditional Auction House would.
If you can be anything, be kind.

Agree, it would be nice if they would add Auction House to the game.

As in current form it feels lacking and I dislike large guilds as most of the time players won't have any kind of social interaction and instead it's just used for the perks it offers, see "social" World of Warcraft guilds.

I enjoy the no auction house feature. I do agree there needs to be a trading chat.

Basically this. I love the idea behind it and trading guilds are absolutely wonderful. It's just that zone channels seems to be a bit spammy sometimes as majority of players are trying to sell their goods in there.

Adding my agreement. Doesn't have to be a global auction house, it could be regional AHs in each major city, but there definitely needs to be a better way to trade with players than currently exists in the game.
  • ryanbezemerb16_ESO
Player-player interaction is perfectly fine. However, it shouldn't be forced. Sometimes I like to do stuff on my own, other times with a group. I don't want to be forced to do stuff in a group where I would have more fun doing it on my own. Not that is actually happening, but those are just thoughts...

I'm fine with the current system of trading, though a type of regional market outside of a guild store doesn't sound bad at all. The thing is, even without an global auction house system, some trading guilds will simply become more powerful than others, and people are going to compete over places inside those guilds. there is no stopping that. Perhaps a medium between these small, localised stores and global stores is what is actually needed.

I agree with the idea of no AH but that only makes people spam their offers in chat window.
They could make a AH but with controlled prices.. I mean put it very restricted in terms of amount of gold (tabled prices like NPC) and few slots to sell stuff. I would hate to see this game turn out like others when you just buy blue and purple stuff very cheap. Also because of the drops are shared by all a normal AH would make the economy break. I do wanna work hard and kill a big boss for a purple item not just buy it cheap

Cost of things is a simple supply and demand. You could argue that the way to keep prices high (if that's what you want) is to ensure that supplying these items is very difficult and time consuming to the point where most would just rather hand over their life savings than make it themselves.

A way to keep spamming and prices controlled. Of course not to the extreme of handing over life savings.

The economy is working fine and I don't see the need for an AH. People never use the /trade channel to trade anyway so your problem wouldn't be solved.

The problem with an auction house in ESO is that we have all players on 1(2) servers, as I understand this makes the dynamic a bit different from wow who has lots of servers with some thousand players on each.
Most people who sell stuff want fast and sure sales rather than maximize profit at least unless the item is very rare and expensive so they put buyout price one gold below the previous lowest, if tens of thousands players do this it will drop the prices close to the npc merchant prices, its not an lack of loot in this game and pretty much everything can be traded.

Rare items on the other hand will be extremely expensive as demand is far larger than supply and its plenty of players with lots of gold who will push up the price.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The guild stores are such a waste of money that the guilds I am in just spam guild chat.

This is what is stopping me joining a trade guild or two. I'd prefer an auction house myself, but whatever system is used needs to be incentivised to be better than spamming public channels.

Wait ... so guild stores just sell to each other? It doesn't go to a wide amount of people like a faction based AH would?

That sounds counter productive in a game that wants a large economy, especially on one large megaserver.

I would be in favor of a Trade channel, but past knowledge dictates people will still use the Zone and Shout to sell their wares. Eh.

I guess I don't see the lure of joining a humongous guild where you don't know or don't care to meet anyone just to sell a few things to that solitary group that may never be bought. I'd rather face the bots on an AH. Course you learn who they are and go about ignoring them.

Regional wouldn't be too bad. Limit sales to a certain number per account. It'll force people to sell their best wares. And it still leaves room for people who only gather to make a profit selling there stuff.

The economy is already on a fast track to being screwed regardless of having an auction house or not, there are already people doing 20.000 gold an hour AOE farming mobs, or exploiting the instanced nature of the game to login, loot containers in the bank building, logging off and login again to repeat the process for a good chance at racial books.

Unless these exploits are fixed, the inflation of gold in the economy at this early stage of the game will mess it all up sooner or later.

Sounds vaguely familiar, happened in Vanguard, gold duplication exploit killed the economy with in days.

To combat a failed economy, the easiest way to make it work is, don't have trading guilds, don't have AH , just have a trade channel. let people sort it out themselves.

Maybe even perform a gold wipe. Or at least a gold cap per a/c. At the end of the day, gold is really immaterial to me as a player, it definitely goes not effect my enjoyment of the game whether I have gold or not.

I Love the trade system by guild. But .. the cut is too high... its 10% that goes nowhere plus another 15 % for the guild....

Actually, I read that you get the posting fee back (could be wrong) and the 15% does not go to the guild but disappears. I could be wrong but this what I read a few days ago.

I think no auction house is fine it has REALLY improved relations with other top guild with mine. We have a pretty cool trade consortium going that I haven't seen since EQ. the community is fantastic.

That said I have NO IDEA why there isn't a zone trade channel. that should most definitely be added.

I turn zone chat off anyway because all I see are people arguing about silly things but a trade channel would be a big help

I agree, OP join a trade guild, and prosper. But they really need a dedicated trade channel.

AH is needed, sorry you conservative oldies like overcomplicating a simple thing.
I dont have time to waste hours for trading. AH is needed, every modern mmo has one because its a working formula.

Watch, if they keep taking this least effort approch to ESO; it'll be free to play by the end of the year.

Do you hear us DEVs? Dont listen to conservatives, they will kill your game. Not everyone can sit and play this game for 12 hours straight; so streamline small things like item trading with a AH. You have other games to compete with, so get on it. Before they steal your business and bankrupt your company.

i think we Are okay whit out auction house but we need search Function in the Guild Store if it are to become more used because ppl get to tiered using it looking True all pages for One single item That may or may not be For sale

So as long we get search added to the guild store i think it is quite nice ofc that is only my opinion,,,,

And agree the drop rate for Epic gear is quite Big so if it's not changed mot ppl will be runing around in epic gear beffore they know it ,,

Auction house would be a disastrous move for this game, and would basically end the game. I would certainly quit immediately if the implementation of an auction house were even announced.

In a megaserver game, a universal auction house becomes hyper-efficient -- due to the number of items in it, it becomes by far the most efficient way to source gear. This means that (1) drop rates would need to be drastically lowered so as not to make acquiring gear absolutely trivial and (2) the main game becomes about farming gold so that you can source gear in the AH. It effectively destroys the game and makes the entire game revolve around currency and the AH. It's a disastrous idea in a very large game, as Blizzard eventually admitted with D3.

Let me assure the ignorant OP that auction house is in no way a "must". I commend Zenimax on stepping away from this GAME BREAKING 'feature' that has killed socialization in many games utilizing it. Think back to Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, EverQuest 1, Dark Age of Camelot. All amazing, great games that did NOT have auction houses.

Enough said. Hopefully Zeni doesn't cave to people crying and wanting everything handed to them on a silver platter with zero effort put in.

I do agree with a trade chat channel though, since it would help annoy certain players less.

    Thanks.

There are auction houses in guilds, in fact there are guilds that do nothing but AH. Join one of those. We dont need a gold selling machine in the game
