There's those of us on console as well that use a keyboard to type because it is more convenient.

But sadly they had been playing ESO with a controller for years and figured it would be too much to re learn the game on a mouse and keyboard so they keep playing on a controller, even though they are at a disadvantage, and still manage to kill 99% of players they come across with a controller.

...All whilst coming to realize that the change was pointless, because the game still performs terribly on PC.

And unless you can type really fast with one hand, you have to put down the mouse to type something.

I learned to play action games on consoles over the years (Atari, Nintendo, Playstation 1-3) and PC was primarily turn based strategy games. Mouse and keyboard feel awkward to me, but I try to go back and get better with it every now and then.

Technically, you don't put down a mouse because it is already down. If it isn't down, you are using it wrong.

One of my guildies has used a controller since launch. I believe he posted his setup on the forums aeons ago.

I assume you are talking about a Steam controller profile since it was a long time after launch that gamepad support was added to PC.

I have a Steam Controller. It is great when you want have no keyboard and a trackpad instead of a mouse or gamepad.

Actually a lot of us had to use (and still do), third party programs such as Xpadder and BetterDS3, created our own profiles/layouts to play with our controllers during Beta and shared them with others at release.
Far too many characters to list any more.

It is expensive, needs third party software to work fully (which you must pay for) and the rubber grips on the handles expand and fall off after a few months. Apart from that this one recommends the Elite Xbox controler. It has four flappy paddles under the handles (optional, you can remove them) so you got four extra #buttons#. But to make them work the way you want them to you need to buy software ReWasd, its cheap enougth but why Microslop not give us proper driver to make it work? The other thing is a switch, which Rewasd can use to give you two completely different sets of key bindings for the controller.

I use a PlayStation Navigator controller in one hand and a mouse in the other. This means I can target things faster and also get the benefit of using a joystick for movement; it’s the best of both worlds!

I used to just use a controller, but having a mouse for aiming and abilities is a LOT easier in my opinion.

Also I do have very small hands.

A console controller is extremely ergonomic and comfortable to use, even with it's input limitation. Keyboard diehards don't know what they're missing.

disagree. I have tried ps2, ps4 and xbox controllers (xbox controller is a complete no go - way too big and cumbersome for my hands, plus I had that joysticks are not symmetrical, playstation controllers are ok.. ish, but they are still controllers).

i STILL prefer keyboard. if I could play my ps4 games without having to pay $300 for a decent keyboard emulator that may STILL not work perfectly with every game I have - I would do so in a heartbeat. I only use controller becasue its the only way to play certain games that I want to play. you know. console exclusives. otherwise - I much MUCH prefer mouse and keyboard. yes, i find them far more comfortable to use then a controller.

    aka YMMV.

Unfortunately, ESO's targeting is limited because of controller support. Using a mouse, I can have my targeting reticle directly on one player, but the player slightly in front of them, but off to the side is who will be targeted.

    Lazy person.
Whenever Im lazy , and tired of kissing my monitor, I like to sit on my couch, take less stress on my eyes and just play on controller.
At PVE is fine and actually you remember rotations better than on keyboard, you stick more to the same rotation, without making mistake.

THe only problem is at PVP if you need to move in circles to avoid some damage, you have to rotate camera and cast abilities which gets awkward. Also when you getting ganked from behind and you need to turn around it takes time + you need to focus and lock on enemy which is slower than keyboard + mouse user.
BUt controller UI is ALOT better, atleast for me, you can see the skills getting pressed, so you dont accidentally cast same ability x2 times, icons- they're bigger.

So if not pvp competitive side, it's great , you getting less stressed because you're in relaxed position rather than sitting up straight. Also you xb1 and ps4 players, do you play with camera lock on target, i heard there's such option? or you rotate it manually? If manually how you deal with it when you rotate camera + cast abilities?

Does "orbweaver" count as controller? it has a thumbstick for easy wasd and 20 comfortably aligned buttons to operate with the other 4 fingers.

I use a Logitech G13, which is similar but has more keys.

Not sure it's a controller, so much as a dedicated keypad with thumbstick [just as you say].
Important distinction, as it is one handed allowing the mouse for aim and a few more buttons.
