Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl not working

Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl does not appear to work. When I fish after using it I get no rare fish, When i fish with out it, I get an occasional rare fish.

When ZOS "fixed" in update 4.07 with the double fish drops, it seems to have completely broken this.

It's not a guarantee so you have to still fish quite a bit, but I definitely seem to get more with this food. FYI, it means green and blue will appear more often, not just blue.
I definitely know it is not excluding those drops and just giving white fish. That definitely doesn't happen for me.

I understand its not a guarantee of blue fish. The issue is when using this I am not getting any green or blue fish, just standard white. When not using it I get green or blue fish occasionally as I always have.

I think it's just a 5% increase as if one other player is with you. I've had one other player with me before and neither of us caught any rare fish for over an hour, the RNG is just a poisonous ***. I even used the pickled fish bowl AND had another player with me and took almost the entire duration of the food to catch a blue. I think the chance to catch rare fish is just super low at default and then goes up in 5% increments with other players, and that fish bowl just adds 1 player's worth. I will not be making any more, after trying a batch. Too expensive for too little impact.

Here is what The Summerset Collector's Guide has to say about fishing chances and the the Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl recipe.

    Fishing Chances:

    Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl Recipe:

"The pickled fishbowl increases your maximum health and magicka and lures rare fish to you."

The Guide does not specify the drop rate on the "Lure" effect.

    Double Fishing Reward Drops (BUG=Fixed):

The double fishing rewards under certain conditions was a bug and has been fixed per the patch notes. See link below:

Hope this helped clear some of the confusion! :) Happy Adventuring!

I am having the same problem as the original poster. The information you pasted (that I already knew about) said that a solo fisher has a 6 percent chance to catch a rare fish, and with this potion, rare fish have a higher chance. HOWEVER, AFTER DRINKING THIS POTION MY CHANCE OF CATCHING ANY RARE FISH DROPPED TO ZERO PERCENT. ZERO. AS IN NO RARE FISH. NONE. I wasted a lot of expensive clam gall, and then a lot of rare worms on this. Bah.

Okay okay, after about 20 minutes (which is a long time when you're fishing in Tamriel) the fishbowl seemed to kick in. Maybe the bug is that it takes a while to take effect??? Anyway, for the first 15-20 minutes I wasn't catching ANY rare fish at all. But after that, I would catch about 1 rare fish per fishing hole. I'm not sure what that equates to in percentages. I seemed to be getting more than usual alternate bait fish at a higher rate?, and also house items such as kelp and "medium fish" and things like that, but I can't really say at what rate. Hope this helps. I think you can expect about 1 rare fish per fishing hole, but the rate at which you get them still applies (there's one green fish you get more often, and one green fish you get less often, and then it takes forever to get the blue fish).

    1) Is this true developer confirmed information in that book?

    2) If that is true information from the developer "super-double-secret-proprietary-obviously-copy-pasted-from-any-simple-math-equation-in-history" code of the game then why haven't the developers posted the formula and information for us either on their own website or in game even in the help menu?

FUDGE! I miss City of Heroes where the developers had the common sense to know that letting players see the formulas and actual numbers wasn't revealing anything that could jeopardize their money of the game balance and actually improved balance because players found bugs faster and with more accuracy so that combat could be and WAS more easily balanced properly.
Every developer who doesn't reveal that information is just covering for their own ineptitude at their job and hiding their mistakes.

Yes, pretty much everything not considered a "white fish" is considered a "rare fish" as far as the Artaeum recipe is concerned. It increases your chance of more valuable catches.
It's not just a "blue fish only" buff.

And yes, that is where RNG just kills things anyway. It can make a buff into a nerf easily because of streaks and, the bane of online gaming RNG, because the RNG code is server side so it's not a "(1 / X) chance" for just you and instead is based on the entire population attempting it so it is more like "(1 / X^population) chance" which is "1 divided by (X times X times X times X as many times as the entire population)" so really really really low chances.
They still have that affect no matter how well they code it, unless they put in a hard "after so many failures guarantee a reward" type of code and set it at a reasonable level which they don't do mostly.

This is why I hate random chance in games. I want guaranteed even if it is after a high number of the same action, like "fish 2000 times for the entire pyandonean motif" because at least it is an attainable hard limited goal and that doesn't have the possibility of being so RNG rare that it ends up being "never".

    1. The guide is legit.
    2. The developers can do as they please.

Can confirm. I tried it again today, and once again I ONLY caught white fish for the first 20 minutes. After that I started catching green and blue level fish at a significantly increased rate than normal. I caught the blue fish twice within ten minutes after the 20 minute "warm up" was over.

I'm going try this again and see if I eat the fishbowl and then wait 20 minutes before fishing, if I will start seeing the boon right away, or will I still have to fish for 20 minutes before I see the boon.

Eat the food BEFORE you zone in and start fishing. It will not affect the fishing hole if you are beside it and eat it. I think it’s like the hissmir food. If you ate that the water wouldn’t glow or tell you what it was until you ran away to another spot.

The food definitely is working. I love this so much now it’s easier to catch blue fish :)

It took me soooo long to finish 1 zone and now with this food I can do like 2 zones in a day. I can’t fish all day long or I’d already have the title

I have noticed a serious bug with the Fishbowl, on PS4 NA, sonce using the food buff no furnishings whatsoever have dropped while fishing. Went to trade a friend for their Blackmarsh fish and it didn't go into my inventory. I only found out because I immediately went to go place it and the fish I removed from my aquarium was also gone. The fish rarity drop rate while using the Picked Fishbowl seems a little wonky, too. Some areas it is really awesome, other times I only get white fish and bait for two hours.
Back to the furnishing issue, occassionaly my character will reel in nothing. Does the catch animation and sound...and nothing else, not items nor fish...
