I was running my old build of war maiden and lich and skoria but the light armor shield just isn’t good enough anymore and healing ward is mostly useless. So I went heavy armor with shacklebrealer and bright throat but it’s not much better. The lack of a good heal outside of swallow soul is miserable. Anyone got any pointers if I want to salvage this class?
Short answer: there isn't, this is life on a class without a burst heal.
Long answer: you can either build around invisibility and mobility and pray you never get hit, or you can try to build around the Dark Cloak morph and use it as a weaker, magicka version of Vigor. Try running something like 5pc Impregnable, 5pc Spinner's/Strategist/Moon Hunter on your front bar, with the Black Rose resto staff on your back bar and Valkyn or Balorgh as your monster set. You need to have at least 30k health to make the Dark Cloak heal worthwhile, so run prismatics and be an Argonian.
I was trying the beak morph of dark cloak but it just kinda suck. Looks like I might put my magblade to rest for a bit.

Yeah been awhile since I've seen you. You running that Torug's in light or heavy?

The average player is going to pick up something different to play.
I noticed that too lol. DK is a real Goliath this patch!
Id like for swallow soul to be changed such that it’s a projectile but from your target to yourself, making it unreflectable. Like you’re stealing their essence. We’re already way too weak against reflect. So this would be pretty good for us. Currently when there are too many dks in the bg match im in, i run concealed weapon.
Sure every once in a blue moon you run into a squish noob that you can melt when kena procs but typically everyone in Cyrodiil is tanking for days.
Everyone except mag sorc & some stamblades are running s&b
A short rundown of the fights/what other players are thinking when they kill me
Mag warden - tank tank tank (shimmering shield w/s&b)...permafrost & I’m dead
(Whether you can see permafrost is debatable), forward momentum nerf makes it difficult to get out of even w/13k stam
Magplar - oh did you incap/soul harvest me? I couldn’t tell because I’m an Argonian healbot w/disease resistance running s&b spamming breath of life; you’ll die to my radiant + skoria if my friends don’t zerg you first
Magdk - flap flap (like always) so sorry to hear about the agony change but guess what?! I can still meteor + fossilize you , but what am I saying leap works so much better! Oh shoot my skoria killed you instead #inevitable
Stam warden - you wut bro? Have some beetles with dawnbreaker & steel potato; you died so fast I don’t even remember you.
Magsorcs - we cried so much that they actually gave us a buff! I bet you’ll run out of resources before I do (spam shields, streak, full sustain build & still hits for 5k on every attack)...
Stam sorc - speed might suck but so do you trying to deal with bleeds & the largest persistent aoe in game #GoodLuckCloaking
I guarantee implosion is on the death recap
Stam nb - running 14k+ mag I can cloak just as good & still kill you w/multiple 10k snipes that hit at the exact same time
Other magblades - if I bring my dueling build into Cyrodiil I can guarantee 1 kill...
I wouldn't be so upset with magnb if they did not COMPLETELY nerf my heavy armor playstyle. I was already non meta, but I enjoyed they playstyle as a change from the light armor shield stack range builds I run in duels.
I used to love running a heavy armor destro/2h build in cyro it gave me good mobility and decent damage, along with enough heals to stand and survive.
Until... they take my minor vit from swallow soul. No buff for dark cloak. But wait were going to nerf path also, now you can't rely on path to stand in for minor vit buffed heals and skoria procs to help your already weak heavy mag dps. So now I have a swallow soul that I don't slot because its not my spammable, might as well swap it for mutagen. I have a path that does no damage, why even run skoria with 1 dot? So drop path or drop skoria and lose heals or lose damage....Aww *** it I'll just throw on calu/spinners and just insta jib people from stealth.
That's exactly how I felt.

I feel you. I was a heavy armor magblade as well. Minor vit and refreshing path changes were uncalled for.
I suggest you go with defensive light sets (im running light fortified brass) and troll king. The LA passives help with damage, while troll king and resistances help with mitigation.
You can run dampen magicka as well for oh *** moments on your destro/2h set-up.
My banking MNB is still extremely strong considering I barely have defense anyways.
Currently I’m running a No shield No Cloak Light armor D/SNB build. It’s still a huge change to my other playstyle but I’m really liking it

Do you find any success in BGs with this or just Cyro? Dark Cloak for your heal?
magicka just feels underwhelming compared to stamina toons. There is no vigor heal. Dodge roll and CC break are tied to your lowest resource pool and you're quickly dead after an extended 2 cc fight at most.
magDK hits hard but mobility is a major issue. magblade basically has to HA/Gank from cloak on all attacks. stay visible for even 5 consecutive seconds and you're dead.
Stam toons just seem to have incredible synergy with most of their kits. Stamina is an offensive and defensive pool for them... allowing them to hit harder and have more sustain for dodge roll and cc break. their primary go-to for major brutality is a 2for1 skill that also grants 4 seconds of snare/root immunity. they can literally dodge roll while ani-canceling vigor so as to avoid dmg and at the same time heal for 50% of their health over 5 seconds.
it's just way more powerful than anything I find on the magblade and magdk kit. magden is a support role that just throws aoe all around. I don't feel like I kill anything.. just facilitate kills for my stam brothers.
magsorc can kill but it's just a much more boring playstyle than a melee bruiser. standing 100 ft away throwing endless fury on anything 50% or below while looking for frag procs is just a bit stale.
I have a stam bias there is no doubt. and I play only no-cp so it seems even stronger there.
why can't there be a magicka vigor and dawnbreaker and tie dodge roll and cc break to your highest resource pool. is that just way to overpowered? maybe it would be.

I hate the fact that stamblades can even cloak just as good as magblades. It seems their magicka hardly drains. A melee magblade is just a weaker version of stamblades. And a ranged magblade is just a weaker sorc.
Yeah we have a great toolkit. It got nerfed or bugged though for some skills. Still, it's the only class i prefer to play.

While I disagree that we are a weaker sorc (we have nastier bursts and better utility), I do agree that our melee variant is *** compared to stamblades. I hope we get some changes for our melee playstyle. I mean, we have a melee spammable after all.

It's not the best heal in the game but it does have a 10k tooltip. it crits for almost 6k and it's basically the only burst heal available.
I think my biggest problem this patch is believing that I can still takes some of the hits I use to take but that's not the case. You are very burstable. It reminds me of playing magblade in the proc set meta. Were you had to severely outplay your opponent to get a kill. Luckily magblade does have the tools necessary to kill anyone you just have to be creative when it comes to survivability.
All in all I feel the magblade and shield nerfs were too much. Even heavy armor magblade took some nerfs. You just have to work twice as hard as the other classes to do anything now. Not to mention everyone in cyrodiil is a dk now
