Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Used to Look Forward to New Patches...Now I Dread Them.

Aria_GuildDestroyer
I've never had so many issues with game updates and patches in any other game. It was tolerable for my first two years of playing ESO, but it's now gotten to the point that the game is unplayable when a new patch drops or the game updates. I shouldn't have to repair my game every time there's maintenance, or reinstall to fix a plethora of issues. Has anyone else had the same thoughts? Patch updates are now a day (or days) of dread, rather than excitement. Even when I was finally able to play Murkmire, after two days of repair and repair and repair, the first quest I picked up was bugged and unable to be completed until maintenance the next week! I don't know why, but the game seems to be getting more and more broken with every single patch. If you're trying to keep marketing and new updates on a schedule -- abandon the damn schedule if your programmers are incapable of getting everything up to par on time. I hope you're not pushing your programmers to do the impossible; and I for one, as a consumer, would rather you stop releasing new broken content for a while and focus on fixing what needs fixing.

Forget the next update - save that work until it's supposed to be released. Suspend a cycle of new content so your programmers can focus on fixing existing content for a few months, otherwise, I'm definitely gonna get on the bandwagon of "this game is too broken to keep playing," and never see the new content anyways.

Won't happen since fixes to existing stuff can't be properly monetized.

I agree, but I would advocate that a suspended cycle of new content in favor for fixing existing current content would be a solid investment. It would keep current players in the game, maybe bring back some of the old, and would also show a commitment to its player base, which is huge for MMO players. That kind of commitment (because while it may merely "break the expenditure") may attract new players....Alot of the time they'll ask how populated the game is and whether the admin team is good with fixing it.

    I know it's a long-shot, but it's something worth thinking about!

Agreed. The steady stream of nerfs just doesn't stop, and it bleeds more and more of the fun out of playing the game for me and a bunch of others I've played with on here for years.

Patch day means something fun is getting corroded anymore. The best you can hope for is that the nerf razor doesn't shave another layer of meat off anything you were enjoying this time...but it'll come around even if it isn't this time.

No matter what you're doing or what aspects of the game you enjoy most, the razor will soon enough peel your skin off. Patch day is razor day. Someone's losing another layer of something, and whatever it says in the patch notes about something being increased will feel like a demented attempt at creating a context for trauma bonding, or a social experiment testing how much they can lie to us without us noticing or doing anything about it.

All in all, this game's been getting less and less fun to play since Morrowind hit. Most of my friends left because the continuing idea of nerfing fun to dust in the name of 'balance' doesn't even bring balance for the sacrifice it demanded, and why I'm even still here I can only chalk up to being because I'm being too stubbornly stupid to just walk away and never resub again.

Think I'll go correct that now that I've called myself out on it.

You definitely shouldn't need to repair or reinstall every time there's an update, especially not multiple times.

I haven't needed to reinstall since I rebuilt my machine, and I can't remember the last time I had to run a repair. So it's not a universal problem, but I don't know enough to determine whether it's a problem on your end, with ZOS or somewhere in between. Do you ever have this problem with other games? Or have trouble streaming movies and things?

Nope! Never have trouble with other games or with streaming or anything else. It's purely problems I have with ESO. At the moment, I cannot log in because I keep getting a login error saying my password is incorrect or my account is inactive, (neither of which is the case). My boyfriend cannot log into my account on his PC, but can log into his. I cannot login to ANY account on my PC right now, they ALL give the same exact error.

The worsening performance/login problems, and the overbearing nerfs are two of the three main reasons I don't look forward to new content anymore.

The third is that overland content is quite boring for me, and with no veteran option I just lose interest.

That's what greets me five times out of six log-ons. Retyping my password generally gets me logged in then, but it's the same password I typed the first time. Started since the emergency patch this weekend.

Just wait until the "Race Balance Patch" comes through.

I'm predicting the removal of ALL percentage based racial stat increases. It will be presented to us that ZOS wants every race to be able to do any role but that will be a cover. What it will really be about is just another power creep management. Removing another chunk of peoples power so ZOS can hand it back via champion points. I just wish they would admit that power creep is out of control and they have to continually steal from our class skills, racials, and abilities so their content stays challenging for the top 1% of the game. But they continue to tinkle on our leg and tell us its raining.

Honestly, the main reason they're revisiting races is because of PvP. Again.

There have been many complaints of race overperforming in PvP. There aren't many complaints about this for PvE, because race matters so little.

A small optimistic part of me wants to believe that maybe they are overhauling races and will make them more robust. The rest of me is waiting to say "I told you so" when the blanket nerfs come.

As long as the crown store is raking in the cash, nothing else matters.

This is a true actual factual statement. Zos is a business, and the crown store is easily the steadiest stream of revenue they have. If you want change you need to stop buying crowns and post about poor performance. Zos will only make performance a priority if it can be connected with lost revenue. Its not a bad thing, it's just how it is.

I agree. There's far too much effort going into new DLC and shiny crown store stuffs, while years-old bugs are still around and the server performance is slowly getting worse.

We need a break from scheduled content release until old/existing issues are sorted out.

Guarantee it’s just a blanket nerf of any useful race and making us all spend crowns on race change tokens

    Not true.

As much as PVE'ers love to blame PvP for all the nerfs, this is demonstrably FALSE. Lets take the shield nerfs for example. People like to point to that and say that sorcs were too strong in PvP and got shields nerfed for PvE. A 20k HP sorc with 50k magicka could get 20k hardened and 20k Dampen, which is a 40k shield stack but only in PvE. After Nerfmire in PvE, this would only amount to a 20k combined shield. a 50% nerf (usually more since pve sorcs run about 17k health meaning they can only get a 17k stack). Meanwhile in PvP shield strength was already reduced 50%, so a 20k health sorc with two 10k shields, pre-murkmire, will have... two 10k shields AFTER murkmire, arguably stronger for taking armor into consideration now. PvE nerf, Not PvP.

There have been many complaints of race overperforming in PvP. There aren't many complaints about this for PvE, because race matters so little.

Not True again. Most PvP complaints are from people that look at their death recap, pick the biggest number, then complain about that skill or class on the forums. Very few people link that to race.

However. I challenge you to find ONE serious, PVE min/max DPS build that doesn't recommend a race with a 10% main stat increase. I'm waiting.

Lets dispel this myth once and for all. Sorry PvE'ers, PvP doesn't get you nerfed. Its the 1% of your elite dungeon runners that post videos of themselves soloing trial bosses and their group clears content in 3 minutes. That's what gets you nerfed.

ESO used to keep the depression at bay. Now the forums and patch notes and crown store are just adding more fuel to the fire. This months log in rewards have me seriously rethinking if I should just take a break. TES legends isn't what it used to be either ever since sparypants took over.

Negative. Your argument is totally off. I play endgame pve and not one person I know ever, EVER, used shield stacking. Now I’m not sure exactly why the shield nerf came about: pvp, pve, control power creep, make healers more viable, whatever.... What I do know is that the only place shield stacking took/takes place is in pvp.

ZOS proven many times they are unable or unwilling to do things right, they leave more things broken than fixed with each patch.

When players are afraid of next update and they are most excited because of bugs fixing from previous updates, something is seriously bad.

I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.
