While I am not happy about ZoS lately this post feels a little too entitled. ZoS could just say *** it and not do any events yet people scream for free stuff and compensation.

I couldn’t get in the game yesterday at all, no tickets, no boxes and no daily rewards. I would like something to happen. Extend the event Zos.

It’s just getting too ridiculous. The game lost its luster a long time ago. I just can’t get excited about anything anymore due to all the various performance issues.

Canceled plus. Destroyed the feathers. Logging in but not claiming the rewards. Not doing anymore events. NOT buying crowns. In fact NOT buying ANYTHING.

From now on, just giving the game the attention it deserves. Gonna PvP, hang out with a few friends, that’s it.

Extending the event seems like the best idea. It takes little effort, it promotes goodwill. And, heck, it's the holiday season-- why not?

Why exactly do you feel you should be compensated? what exactly have you lost?

How about being compensated for basically being QA people for their broken product. Hundreds of us help to beta test their unfinished Dungeon Finder module.

I believe that work deserves to be fairly compensated.

Let me preface this by saying I am not concerned in the slightest if I get compensated or not.

However, if you advertise a "Guarantee", in this case getting loot boxes, then it is on the advertiser to fulfill that advertisement. Whether this has any actual binding is irrelevant, it comes down to common decency. If the player is unable to acquire said "guarantee" due to the advertisers inability to make it acquirable, then clearly, common decency dictates some sort of compensation is due.

In reality though, this is just a game, nevertheless, there is much that can be said about creating expectation and then not meeting that expectation.

I'm a paying customer with eso+. In fact i'm a double paying customer since I also got a eso+ subscription for my wife. Your event has caused the maintenance and the steam login issue from yesterday ,preventing myself AND my wife to play for the whole day. Because the event we didn't made much plans for this day as we planned to spend it in game. We found of course something else to do but this is not acceptable, we paid to be able to enjoy this game at our leisure and the incompetence of ZoS management and / or development team led us to this. I don't expect, I demand a compensation

This is primarily addressed to the ZoS developers... Are you going to compensate people for the dungeons they did not get to run, because they either couldn't log in or the queue could not find them a random dungeon to run?

It's hard to blame the developers for this one because the flaw here was in structuring the event and promoting it using the group finder which cannot handle the load.

In my experience, these sorts of decisions are made by people far removed from the dev team and usually without consulting the dev team.

The only compensation for this SNAFU is for the event to be over. ;)

They don't get a pass here. Regardless of what the suits say, the non gender specific people that build this system did not need another stress test to prove the system can't handle the load.

They were more than likely not surprised that this event caused the problem so that would lead to an assumption that it was either not worked on or a bandaid was applied and prayers were said before the event went live.

I doubt that the engineer of the subsystem had a push ready in the hours from launch to 4am saturday and it was the incremental patch that was going to be pushed monday, so its hard to shoehorn new functions into a push without a lot of code review and version control.

So, they had this problem last year, they were told that the event would be happening again this year, it was not a surprise and their fix either was so bad that they didn't include it or they wished on lolipops and rainbows that their ideas held water.

A 6 hour saturday maintenance says it was a tad leaky.

I'm the first guy in line to defend devs, its a crap job with crap hours and pretty simple people above you making decisions you have no part in and forcing you to perform magic on a regular basis, but this is not that.

Correct pattern of behavior is to identify a massive pain point and remove that pain point before rolling out the system for a massive stress test. They know this, they are not dumb, they did not do this and you are seeing the fallout.

What should they do? Should is a weird word I try not to use, but the morally ethical thing is probably to extend the event with apologies, explain why things happened and give information on how this will not happen again in the future.

Will we get that? hell no, but it would be nice though.

This was a really nice post; facts and no hyperbole.

    Thank you for this.

I could see, "maybe" if you were an ESO + subscriber you could contact support and get them to add one day to your current sub time. they would probably do that as long as you were nice and persistent.

    They would never do that

Yes, they would. They have for me, but instead of one day, they added 3 back.

You want more time added to get lousy box drops (the equivalent of the potion box drops for watching twitch which we hardly get any more, but at least we could convert to crystals)?

I have run over 30 dungeons and gotten one pet.

I could see, "maybe" if you were an ESO + subscriber you could contact support and get them to add one day to your current sub time. they would probably do that as long as you were nice and persistent. I have known a few people who have gotten extensions in the past, but only because they were nice and reasonable when asking the support people and not flapping off as keyboard warriors saying they were entitled to it.

As for the event, thats just something ZOS was nice enough to put into the game for folks to do. Its an optional bonus, you are not entitled to anything the event gives, nor is participation in such an event part of the service they have agreed to provide.

Simply put, ZOS has agreed to provide a game service with no guarantees on uptime to you in return for you purchasing the game. ESO + gives you access to a craft bag, DLC's and Dungeon packs. thats it (The TOS broken down very simply)

Both parties can sever this agreement at any time without penalty. You can stop playing the game and paying them, and they can perma ban you for any reason they so choose, they could wake up tomorrow morning and say "You know, we don't really like Shadow today, We are going to ban him" and there is nothing whatsoever you can do about it, because you don't own the game, nor do you own anything you buy from the crown store, you don't evne own your account, and your bound by the wall of text called the TOS which most people never read.

This is meant to be purely educational, nothing more. to be compensated, one would have to prove some kid of loss, and the only loss I could see is ESO + time, and the only remedy that would makse sense is extending the duration to make up for downtime, but even that is solely at their discretion, and they are not required to do so.

Not taking sides here, just saying this is how that agreement works.

You took all that a bit too personally. No idea why you're fighting ZoS' corner so damn hard. It wouldn't be any skin off your nose if ZoS were to compensate people with an extra pixel or 2. Not wanting anything, that's fine and that is your choice. But I have no idea why people bang on like it's personal. Like it's taking something away from them.

Um we are too entitled to the event prizes, ZOS said so on their ESO site or did you all not see that? It had pictures and everything. No where in the event description did it say prizes are only available to people that persist past a broken dungeon finder.

Here’s what you need to do to participate:
Navigate to the Group & Activity Finder
    Select Dungeon Finder
Select either Random Normal Dungeon or Random Veteran Dungeon
Select your role (DPS, healing, or tanking) and queue up

If you can't do this in the time that you have to play (maybe 1 hr of trying or more) its only fair these people are given a gift box/event tickets for that day. ZOS knows who made the effort, they have the sys logs for all that happens on their servers. so trow dat guy a bone like you did before, it would just be nice Santa ZOS

Uh no. It's not hard to find 3 players. If others had the same problem then they too are more likely to join your group to get the dungeons done.

    Wrong.

I was in discord with my guild last night and we had a full group and the “someone declined” message kept popping up. It would pop up like 6 times in a row right after each other, faster than human input. Like an error on a computer does. You could try to say one of us didn’t click ready sure, but not when the message flashes several times faster than humans can react.

Finding 3 people to do a dungeon with is not the issue. Getting the bonus reward for “random” chosen by the group finder tool is the issue.

Later it worked for me perfectly doing solo queue on 3 different characters, one a healer, one a tank, and one a dd.

Then it said “unable to queue” for my fourth character.

Why exactly do you feel you should be compensated? what exactly have you lost?

Time, something more important than money. If someone did every other event and cannot complete the event because they had limited time to do so and the game was malfunctioning, then essentially every other event was a waste of time. Personally, I already expected the event to be buggy at some point and didn't care about the mount, but I know people who did and won't be getting it because of the problems. I can only imagine how angry they are.

Every event someone says this, yet they forget that you are not only investing money but time into the game. Players should be demanding compensation, if not for money, for lost time. Either way, the path ZOS is walking will net them a few short-term players and returns, but over a longer term less players.

How do I know? I've already seen it in-game and in many other games over the last 20 years. ZOS is forgetting that players do not have to play the game, they do not have to sub, and they do not have to purchase anything; they can leave. The MMO market is saturated to the point that you would think ZOS would take production more seriously (and they probably are, but there is some other limitation), but by all appearances they aren't.

This means they should be focusing on keeping players happy, and that means either an extension or compensation. Sadly, that seems to be only a secondary goal instead of the primary one...that will hurt the company in the end.

You can get them from battlegrounds, it doesn't matter how bad you are (I am utterly inept at it). You also increase your alliance war skills doing them.

Okay, a buncha things on this thread:

--Yes, the TOS is written to prevent any actual legal liability in case the systems don't work. So, from a STRICTLY legal standpoint, they owe us nothing.

--HOWEVER: From a goodwill standpoint, they had better keep their player base happy, and right now, they are not doing it. I betad this game, and got a subscription as soon as I could, and I am very, very disappointed in the way that this event is being handled so far. Even the prior event was a real grind; it became a scavenger hunt racing to the next harvest node for the dailies. BUT at least they WORKED.

The people who put out $$ for subs are also probably the same folks who spend a lot on the Crown Store, which I do--and that means having a job and other obligations which limits play time. We have a lot of time and $ vested in the game but we don't have all the time in the world to log in at weird times on the outside chance that the load on the servers is low enough to actually allow the event to function as it should.

As such, they should at least extend the event and MAYBE contemplate giving out one of the "guaranteed" event boxes per missed day. As others had stated, this is an ongoing issue and they should have seen this one coming.
