(yeah, its annoying, but... c'est la vie. Sigh and move on, its not worth stressing yourself over)

In my experience, these sorts of decisions are made by people far removed from the dev team and usually without consulting the dev team.
The only compensation for this SNAFU is for the event to be over.
They don't get a pass here. Regardless of what the suits say, the non gender specific people that build this system did not need another stress test to prove the system can't handle the load.
They were more than likely not surprised that this event caused the problem so that would lead to an assumption that it was either not worked on or a bandaid was applied and prayers were said before the event went live.
I doubt that the engineer of the subsystem had a push ready in the hours from launch to 4am saturday and it was the incremental patch that was going to be pushed monday, so its hard to shoehorn new functions into a push without a lot of code review and version control.
So, they had this problem last year, they were told that the event would be happening again this year, it was not a surprise and their fix either was so bad that they didn't include it or they wished on lolipops and rainbows that their ideas held water.
A 6 hour saturday maintenance says it was a tad leaky.
I'm the first guy in line to defend devs, its a crap job with crap hours and pretty simple people above you making decisions you have no part in and forcing you to perform magic on a regular basis, but this is not that.
Correct pattern of behavior is to identify a massive pain point and remove that pain point before rolling out the system for a massive stress test. They know this, they are not dumb, they did not do this and you are seeing the fallout.
What should they do? Should is a weird word I try not to use, but the morally ethical thing is probably to extend the event with apologies, explain why things happened and give information on how this will not happen again in the future.
Will we get that? hell no, but it would be nice though.

I could see, "maybe" if you were an ESO + subscriber you could contact support and get them to add one day to your current sub time. they would probably do that as long as you were nice and persistent.
They would never do that
It’s weird because I played since beta and still love it!JumpmanLane wrote: »It’s just getting too ridiculous. The game lost its luster a long time ago. I just can’t get excited about anything anymore due to all the various performance issues.
Canceled plus. Destroyed the feathers. Logging in but not claiming the rewards. Not doing anymore events. NOT buying crowns. In fact NOT buying ANYTHING.
From now on, just giving the game the attention it deserves. Gonna PvP, hang out with a few friends, that’s it.

I have known a few people who have gotten extensions in the past, but only because they were nice and reasonable when asking the support people and not flapping off as keyboard warriors saying they were entitled to it.
As for the event, thats just something ZOS was nice enough to put into the game for folks to do. Its an optional bonus, you are not entitled to anything the event gives, nor is participation in such an event part of the service they have agreed to provide.
Simply put, ZOS has agreed to provide a game service with no guarantees on uptime to you in return for you purchasing the game. ESO + gives you access to a craft bag, DLC's and Dungeon packs. thats it (The TOS broken down very simply)
Both parties can sever this agreement at any time without penalty. You can stop playing the game and paying them, and they can perma ban you for any reason they so choose, they could wake up tomorrow morning and say "You know, we don't really like Shadow today, We are going to ban him" and there is nothing whatsoever you can do about it, because you don't own the game, nor do you own anything you buy from the crown store, you don't evne own your account, and your bound by the wall of text called the TOS which most people never read.
This is meant to be purely educational, nothing more. to be compensated, one would have to prove some kid of loss, and the only loss I could see is ESO + time, and the only remedy that would makse sense is extending the duration to make up for downtime, but even that is solely at their discretion, and they are not required to do so.
Not taking sides here, just saying this is how that agreement works.

I would like to receive the first day login bonus as I couldn't log in due to server maintenance and the following issue that made it impossible to log in on eu pc steam. Because of this I can't get the last log in bonus. It's only alliance points but since I don't pvp, log in bonuses is my only way of getting them.
