Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

So even the small houses are Crown-exclusive now...?

Isn't that how the cottage was? The difference being that before the event you could only preview it, but I don't think you could buy it (either with Crowns or with gold). During the event you could buy it with Crowns or, if you had the achievement, with gold.

If I were to follow your 'advice' and ignore everything related to pets, mounts, houses and costumes, why would I even be playing this game at all? You do you, mate, and let the rest of us do us.

u can answer this to urself. actually the answer was within my post.

i also do housing, and its important to me, that my characters look good, while raiding and also playing pvp and trading. i am pretty allround in eso. still i have my limits. at this point it should be obvious to u all, that zos not gonna change. and why would they, they are doing a ton of money with people complaining but still buying and also with those carelessly buying. so stop complaining and face consequences.

I am more concerned about mounts for almost the same price as this house.

they need to make money? u dont say. i cant read this anymore. they are doing more than enough money by crown store meanwhile. while that the quality of the dlcs gets worse and also the support and the bugfixing is lacking more and more. actually they need to make less money, so they feel the consequences.

DO we know at this point for certain it is crown-only? I mean, maybe when New Life Festival comes around there will be gold purchase option.

Or, just maybe, it will be the apex login reward for December like Murkmire was for this month. Not saying I'm optimistic about this, but it's always a possibility.

I suppose anything is possible, but I doubt it. Imagine how angry people would be if they paid that much in crowns only for it to be free in a week or two. Don't see it happening.

True, but they also sold Murkmire DLC for crowns for around a month then gave it away for free. So precedent is set for this type of activity....

Yes, true, but it’s a bit different as they announced their plan in advance with Murkmire. People could decide if they wanted to pay to get it ASAP or wait and get it free. In this case there would be no heads up, and that would cause a huge backlash. Still. It would be great if I’m wrong and they do offer it for gold/as a reward.

after i saw murkmire and also all the bugs, how sloppy the whole flora has been made, the increasing daily quest stuff as timekiller, i wouldnt expect zos to expect money for it. still remembering cwc and orsinium. but hey...

just to make sure. i am fine with eso+, for me it always has been mandatory, since i play it every day - since 2014. but i refuse to pay more meanwhile. i would, if zos would increase efforts outside the crown store.

Some players have a lot of crowns but little gold, others have plenty of gold and not many crowns. These things should really be available for either gold or crowns, then everyone maintains an interest in housing, furnishings, and the game.

As far as I am aware, you cannot gift houses. There might be a really convoluted way to do it the "old" way through a support ticket but when that's been done in the past, it comes absolutely, completely empty so even the trees and stuff that come with the unfurnished version are missing.

I'm sad they didn't give us a gold equivalent cost. I would have paid 500k for it...maybe more. Even if it took an achievement that was an annoying grid, I would have done it for that house. But since you can't gift houses, I can't buy Crowns from a player to get it. So yeah...I feel sad.

Merry Christmas! Celebrate by giving us more money! By Molag's saggy pants, this is despicable. When I saw it on the test server I assumed, like lots of you guys, it would be available for gold during the New Life Festival (after getting a relevant achievement) or if you couldn't be bothered, bought with crowns. It would freshen up a festival that's getting a bit stale now and be just a nice thank you to all of us players who've supported the game through eso+, crown store purchases, chapter and dlc purchases. Coming on the heels of the 'we're adding value to your subscription but also taking stuff away' and an event that I haven't yet been able to participate in, I'm - well I'm salty af.

I couldn't agree more. I've turned off auto-renew on my sub for the first time since March. Month after month ZOS has found new ways to make me feel like absolutely nothing but a cash cow to them. The latest gambit... taking away the ESO+ free trial crates and replacing them with the opportunity to buy more stuff in Crown Store was bad enough. Now for them to introduce a house of this size at <5k crowns and STILL make it Crown Store exclusive??? Seriously.... unbelievable. I'm done funneling money to this company.

Giving people a reason to login during the Holiday season would have not only generated more good feelings towards ZOS, but brought out people's wallets.

They would have gotten 10k crowns from me if they had given away the house, on what I would have spent on furniture. Now, I won't spend anything.

And I know a lot of people like that.

@Yolokin_Swagonborn is right on point. Housing is becoming increasingly harder and harder without resorting to the crown store. The recipe and mat grind is obvious.

I try and counteract that as much as possible, I have all recipes in the game except 8 (some purple Ayleid and Dwarven), and sell nothing but rare furniture across my 5 trade guilds. People pay the mat price plus my revenue, which is quite modest, considering the very steep crown price they would have to pay per item in the crown store. And again, most of my revenue goes towards buying the next patch of insanely expensive furniture recipes.

But there is no option when it comes to the crown exclusive stuff, like this house, and the pack that goes with it. Then it's a matter of getting out your wallet, or not getting anything new to play with, at all. And considering that housing and decorating is one of the few things that keep me in this game, if I have to pass on all the new houses, I might as well stop playing at all.
    * a house which is crown only doesnt even exist for me
    * pets are useless, they disturb the group finder, they are annoying and a problem in raids - once ure down question, they are just useless
    * there are a ton of mounts out there meanwhile and they wont get better. i mean look at those awfull murkmire mounts which will come soon
    * costumes are useless since u can adjust the whole armor appearance, u wont ever have the feeling again to look generic.
    * edit - what i totally forgot: since vampirism isnt fixed, all those tattoos are useless as well

This is all fine and well for you. You probably play the game for trials. Other play the game only for the pvp. Me I play the game for the dressing up, the costumes, the housing and decorations, i.e. the fashion and cosmetics aspect.
If I were to follow your 'advice' and ignore everything related to pets, mounts, houses and costumes, why would I even be playing this game at all? You do you, mate, and let the rest of us do us.

In any case, I would happily forego this seasonal house altogether, just a pity there is not a single other home with a snowy exterior, other than the Pariah's, which isn't very winter holidays friendly either. Having a winter home with no snow is kind of pointless.

    I know how you feel.

You could always make one of the other houses' gardens look a bit more festive, by putting Snow Piles in it.

I got the New Life furnishings pack, but not the Snowglobe and tried putting the Snow Piles (which can also be purchased separately) and a couple of the snowmen in the garden of Autumn's Gate (making it more Winter's Gate!).

I think (especially with a couple more Snow Piles) it looks pretty good.

It's, obviously, not full snow cover - it's more like it is in the UK, when the snow has begun to melt, but that is still nice.

You can even place them on the roof, too. :)

OK, you then open the gate to find it's not actually a snowy area, in general, but still.

I think there should be more small and medium houses dotted around Wrothgar, with at least one in the snowy area of it.

In general, I would prefer it if the sub price was a bit higher, if necessary - but, I could buy all the houses (and various other things) for a reasonable amount of gold.

Especially if that meant there could be more medium houses to choose from...

If they had to limit the gold purchase option (on some of the new houses) to sub players only, I guess that would be understandable, too.

It has to be profitable enough for them to bother, at the end of the day.

By the way, to the other poster - costumes aren't useless.

Firstly, they give you more options and are instant and free (once purchased!) to apply.

Secondly, most people don't want to bother changing the appearance of all of their (frequently replaced) armour, while levelling, so costumes are ideal for new players and alts.

Yeah, I think smaller (lower priced), very specifically themed, furnishings packs would be popular.

For example, a "Paintings of Summerset" pack, with all the available Summerset paintings, at a discounted price compared with buying them individually.

I actualy liked that house on pts. a LOT. including its layout. but crown only = no snow globe house for me. was really hoping that it was going to be like witches cottage house as well - achievement based with crown option. ah well

Seriously? They did another Crown only home?

This house had me excited. I was even going to buy the furnishings pack.

    Now I’ll buy neither. :(

Maybe buy the pack and stick the items in another home?

I put some of them in the Alinor Townhouse (as it's my current favourite and very convenient) and then, some of the others in Autumn's Gate and Grymharth's Woe.

The garlands look really nice hanging from the Nord mantelpieces and the wreaths look lovely on the Nord doors.

Whereas, although I love the idea of a tower house (especially in a snowglobe!), the interior of the Snowglobe house isn't as good as it could be.

It should have been more fairytale and had several (ideally, circular) floors, with staircases running around the interior wall, linking them all, in my opinion.

I may still get it, but if I don't, it's fine - as the Christmas thing can really be done virtually anywhere. :)

It's also located very close to Grymharth's Woe, so it's not really necessary for convenience.

Eh, what I want is to be able to furnish by purchase for whatever amount the way a house looks in the loading/preview screens - which is absolutely NOT what you get if you use the "Furnished" option.

Seriously - the interface for furnishing is unusable. I came from RIFT which has one of the better setups around for moving/placing, not to mention copying things from wherever to your own houses.

The system in this game is.... all but unworkable. So hey, just by GODDESS give me the option to buy for gold or RL money the way the DAMNED HOUSE LOOKS in the preview screens.

Jeezus. I'm about ready to go back to RIFT just to have real housing again. And this is after I just bought the Snow Globe house which is one of the coolest player residences I have EVER seen.

But not if I can't have it the way it is in the preview - without all the STUPID NITNOIDY NOT WORKING CRAP with your housing interface!

    Um. Sorry for shouting.

    It's OK. :)

It's not the easiest, or the most efficient and could certainly be (further) improved, I agree.

For example, it would be nice if, once you have made a linked item, like a fruit bowl with fruit (for example), you could then save that item as one thing and recreate it, in other homes, as long as you have all the individual pieces in your inv.

...and also, if you could remove the linked item, as one thing and store it in your bag, or your bank, or move it to another house, or whatever.

Would also be really nice if linking small things into one larger item made them only count as one item (within reason, obviously).

As there is no rhyme or reason when it comes to what counts as one item - a giant, elaborate thing (like a large tree) can count as one item and so can a single potato.

Would also be nice if you had the option for furniture (kitchen cabinets and so on) to, automatically, link up and line up with the wall (like they do in the Sims), when placed directly next to each other.

However, even without these potential improvements, it's still not impossible to use the current interface, once you get used to it.

At least you can undo and redo things, now (couldn't do either before!) and also, link things together, to move them as one (like the aforementioned fruit in a bowl, for example).

If you're having problems placing things accurately, put your char on walk (not run) first and for even greater control, also crouch down before placing each piece of furniture.

Also, make sure you are lined up with the wall in front of you as squarely as possible, before picking up the item, if you want to move things from side to side (but not in, or out).

Then pick the item up and cancel it, before picking it up again (without moving the cursor, if possible), to try to avoid moving it vertically.

Surface drag can also be a blessing and a curse, when it comes to placing things near other things - as they can end up on top of those other things, when you don't want them to be.

So, it's best to toggle it on to get things on floor level and then toggle it off again and just move your character slowly, instead, to slide them into place.

Just keep going - it will become easier, I promise.

I'm at the point now, where I still find it fiddly, at times, but with a little effort I can get it all placed pretty well.

We are now at 7 of the 10 new homes sold in the past year being Crowns-only. I appreciate that the price on the new home is more manageable than the usual $100 and that the LTO window is forgiving, but locking this content behind a paywall is so disheartening. Time and time again ZOS tells me that if I'm not willing to shell out money for Crowns, housing isn't for me.

Are they in desperate need of money or something? This is now the ONLY home in the game that is under 5k crowns and cannot also be purchased with gold. They're constantly reaching new lows when it comes to the Crown store. I'm really disappointed.

One of the many reasons I stopped my sub... Pay wall pay wall everywhere.

Sadly this is pretty standard for most MMOs, seasonal offers are always pay only. While not great it's also not a reason, in my opinion at least, for complaint. Especially when there is most likely going to be a crown sale during the winter break which happened last year.

Just wait for the steam sale or crown sale, I'll say this it's much better then Pariah's Pinnacle which was like 10K+ crowns last year and you get a classic house for cheaper then what they usually go for.

I was disappointed that the cute Snowglobe house couldn't be bought for gold.

I don't have enough crowns and with Christmas coming and pressies to buy

there isn't enough spare cash in my nearly empty purse to buy more crowns ! :'(
