It's a trap: Stock up on Crowns now & treat yourself!

Don't know why encourage people to stock up crowns when it's not on sale. They should change this email ad slogan.

Although, I've been critical of crates and the crown store, I don't see how that is a trap. It doesn't state crowns are on sale. To me it just seems to be saying stock up on crowns and buy stuff on the Black Friday sale.

Well "stocking" is about holding onto for later, if the intent is to use crowns now for the black Friday sale, then you're not "stocking up on crowns"

"Celebrate Black Friday with an exclusive bundle & massive crown store discounts" even if we don't debate whether the discounts are 'massive' or not, there are a lot of things on sale. I really think people are grasping at air trying to find something to criticize.

ZOS could send a tweet out tomorrow that only said, 'stock up on crowns.' It might not be a very impressive ad campaign, but the point gets across: buy crowns.

They used the same slogan in the previous crown pack sales. This is why in ESO player's terms, it means grab whatever crown packs you can during crown sale.

A portion of an old emails from ZOS. It's too long so I'll just post this one particularly.

Really disappointed there is no crown sale. Guess all these discounted items I was possibly going to buy will now be a hard pass. Sad really I was ready to impulse buy a few things.

I agree, there are SO MANY enticing sales and things I am really interested in, but at the end up the day I cannot now and will never pay ZOS full price for crown bundles. I just won't do it.

The sale has already started, so the whole premise of the thread is a bit odd.

That said -- I'm amused that a form of race-change token is actually on sale. :)

I don't feel like doing the math right now, (and I don't have the particular specific sale numbers at hand), but if one sale sees the 'dollar' cost of crowns go down, verses a different sale seeing the crown cost of items go down, you're basically seeing the same thing from two different ends.

Clearly, seeing the cost of crowns cut in half the week before the cost of items in the crown store is cut in half is something that players would find to be an ideal situation to be in - I'd really doubt that the Powers That Be running the MotherShip would do stuff in that order.

It wouldn't surprise me if they put the packets of crowns on sale at some point soon after the item sale was over, though, so players could replenish the crowns they spent.

    ;)

Pretty disgusting move tbh but hey it's a marketing tactic.

My thoughts are that last year's 20% was not well received so they are trying a new tactic. They just don't want to go back to 40% off Crown Packs. But it all depends on how well the sale is received. If people go mad and buy all around them then I'd say we can say goodbye to Crown Pack sales.
Personally I bought 2 cheap items that I missed from during the year but I won't be buying one of the houses. 30% just isn't enough. They are still hugely overpriced. For me they would still cost €70. Given that Summerset is on sale for something like €12 and DLC equally as cheap, I just think it's utter bonkers to charge €70 for a small funtionless instance, even if you paint it pretty and call it a "massive discount".
I know that for many, these "deals" will be very worth while and I have no doubt you will get many hours of enjoyment out of your purchases but before you rush in and bash those that are criticising this year's sale, keep in mind that for many others who remember the bygone era of 40% discount on Crown Packs, this current sale isn't much to get excited about.
Thanks for bringing back some old stuff ZOS but you still haven't reduced your prices on the big houses enough to get my money.

Ah, but with the crown store gifting mechanic, you don't need crowns. I'm buying the banker for 700k gold with the Tamriel Crown Exchange group, tyvm ZOS for making that possible!

(Except houses, still can't really gift those, but I'm happy I can get almost everything else for game gold... I'll be broke again after I get my banker but I can always earn more gold!)

This, it makes sense to buy crones for items on sales, especially the banker. No point of buying more than you need as its not sale. You can always buy more later if needed.

He's probably just being sarcastic. However, I can vouch on buying golds for crown,I personally tried it just recently. I used the TCE (Tamriel Crown Exchange NA) discord group but just make sure the you read all the faqs before buying one. Also Gina is part of the discord group.

As what Kittytravel said, gifting did indeed saved me from spending real money however, I still prefer purchasing crowns directly because it is easier and faster. Some people including me doesn't have time to farm enough golds hence the reliance on crown sale.

This is a limited time to get some stuff at 30% off. Many of those items will not be in the store after this weekend. Buy now at a discount, but pay full price for Crowns, or wait, buy Crowns at ~30% off, and hope something comes up to buy. Today, this weekend, we know what we can buy.

This Black Fredas sale is the biggest sale of 2018. People will buy Crowns at full price. I am sure that they are. Hopefully, in record numbers.

There may not be a store sale like this for another year.

I really don't get some people. The fact that items in the store are discounted isn't enough, and the crowns with which to buy those discounted items should also be discounted? Really?

There's nothing remotely misleading or dodgy in the marketing, it just invites people to buy some crowns now and take advantage of the discounts on the sale items.

I wouldn't say it's misleading, it's just an odd word choice.

I would assume crown discounts would lead to more sales though. Say you want 1 item, you buy it and done. If buying crowns you're inclined to "stock up" and purchase more than what you have your eye on

The dictionary definition does tend to base stocking up on the condition of using in the future, but all you technically need for the phrase to apply is a liquidable inventory of something.

That's why we tend not to use the phrase on something like, say, retirement investments. You don't stock up for retirement, you save up. So it would be weird to use "Save up on crowns" but I don't see anything particularly wrong with "Stock up on crowns".

Using “stock up” is a poor word choice and clearly wasn’t thought through. It implies that you should stock up crowns for later. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if someone thought there would be a crown sale , especially if they used the same wording as before. Zos makes mistakes too like anyone that does marketing, no need to defend them for every little thing.

Should’ve been something like “Treat yourself and get more for your crowns”
