While not a showstopper, this is a little annoying to have it pause for 30 seconds then pop-up with the "quit unexpectedly" crash message. Completely repeatable, happens every time without fail, using either the Steam or non-Steam game client (yes I have both installed).

This seems to be happening on every Mac - I own three, and the client crashes on exit or after the screensaver kicks in every single time, both native and Steam versions.
Another poor effort from your tech guys.
Also, what's next with the FPS issue? You have a very long thread developing there, and some understandable frustrated and angry customers who just want some answers. If I treated my customers like you guys do - if I simply ignored them - I'd have gone out of business before I even started.1 -
I'm getting this too, as well as flickering in Fullscreen with V Sync set to off. It seems to be common.
I've just added Boot Camp to see if the game runs any better under Windows 10. It shouldn't be necessary.

Why bother? ZOS has the absolutely worst online support in the world. If your issue isn't on their list, then it is a very convoluted process figuring out how to actually submit a question. If you figure that out, you get an auto-response then either ignored completely, ticket closed with no other response, or worse yet someone does reply with some canned response not even related to your question. From here you may go into a back and forth and if it doesn't fit any of their scripted answers the ticket gets closed. Never do they offer to escalate your issue or attempt to get an answer from someone that actually knows anything about the game or technical issues.0 -

When I played LOTRO for some years the Mac client *always* crashed when switching to a different output audio device. It never got fixed, in spite reporting it 3 times.
It seems most game companies these days still treat Mac users as second-class citizens. There's absolutely no way I'd ever run a Win* based OS, even on Bootcamp - not done so in over 2 decades - so it severely limits what I can play. It'd be nice if someone other than Blizzard had reasonable support for Macs.

As a side-note, I'm not sure what all the fuss is on handling both OpenGL and Metal anyway. Surely there is enough abstraction in the video handler to fall-back to OpenGL when the latter isn't available, and stubbing out features not available is a relatively simple thing. It should not be a case of either/or.
While I'm not affected as I can run Mojave some folks using older Macs who can't upgrade their OS due to Apple's stupid policy on this should not be paying the price and forced to upgrade hardware for the sake of being able to play a game they've been able to for years...

The Mac market isn't worth it for ZOS to maintain old/new during these kinds of transitions. Same thing with 32/64 bit client. On the Mac it just went 64 bit all at once (with many associated issues) while Windows users had the option of either 32 or 64 for quite some time.BTW, still happening after yesterday's patch.
I live in hope it will be fixed one day.

As for the either Metal or OpenGL part of your comment - that's basically twice the work (every either/or option causes a doubling of the number of combinations of things that need to be tested). Once again, ZOS deemed that it's not worth it for the Mac market.

Deeprave✭✭No way, not twice the work. Yes, it requires testing (always does) but the OpenGL code already exists in the previously used code base, only the Metal driver is new.
I have over 30 years of experience in software development (although not games), so have more than a clue on how this works. Proper abstraction and api development is the norm, and switching systems that alienate a reasonable share of the existing user base is a poor decision.
As for "not being worth it", that argument is past history and has been for years, Macs are slowly becoming the norm though for reasons I've mentioned probably not in games. I seldom see a PC in my line of work except when working with a larger corporate, which is hardly a games market, but other developers myself who enjoy video games generally want to do so on a Mac platform.

JHanshawSoul ShrivenI'm have the same crash issues. Three, minor irritants, actually: 1) the maximize and minimize buttons on the game window are missing, preventing me from going full screen; 2) I have to click three to four times in the password window before it allows me to type, even though the cursor is flashing inside it; 3) every time I close the program window it "unexpectedly quits." I couldn't even supply a game consultant file with my support ticket due to the launcher hanging. Good times1

I hate to say it but my solution to all these and other problems is to allocate 200GB to a Boot Camp partition, install Windows 10 and download ESO. The graphics defaulted to Ultra High straight off. No issues.
This shouldn't be the case but these Mac woes seem to persist and at patches Zen seem to be causing more problems than they solve.1 -
Druachan✭✭✭Yep I get the unexpected crash too when quitting as well. It’s a shame that the Mac client is just getting ignored now. I’m thinking that boot camp might be the answer. I get the usual when i quit the game. But now this even happens when i reload ui at times or when i change my graphic settings. so basically every 1 - 2 hours my game crahses or just closes. Which gets annoying. please fix this....0
