Going to be playing some on PC soon - Day 1 Launch XBOX One player.

Just as the title says, I have played Xbox one since the day the game launched. I will be starting a new job on the 26th, in which my yearly income is going to triple. I can now finally afford a PC to play games on. One of my friends is going to build me a nice rig (hes worked in IT for years and has a masters degree. I know nothing about PC's and I am trusting his judgement on building me a top notch machine.) With that being said a few weeks after Christmas I am getting my rig, and I will be starting my PC journey. I will still be playing on xbox in my raiding guilds, just that I have lost almost all of my friends that used to play, as they have either quit gaming, moved on to other games, or switched to PC (such as DJ Muscle Boy). If I am not raiding I am usually farming and this is getting boring. The guy that is going to build my rig, is going to get the game, as well as his wife, and they want to start playing as well. They are actually waiting on me before they start.

I do have some questions and concerns tho, I heard that mouse and keyboard is the best way to go, but I have some other friends who now play on PC say they use an xbox controller, as you can install the drivers for the controller and run it wired to your rig. Do any of you guys do that?

How is the population on PC NA vs XBOX one? I know I will be doing alot of farming for gear once I get to level and I am concerned that I will not be able to find many groups due to being a low level character (Will start my farming after hitting 160 CP of course).

I kinda dread this on one hand, and then I am excited about it on the other. I have over 2mil gold, I got right at 1000 CP, I have my maw skin (multiple completes in Vet and recently got hardmode complete) , as well as the dungeon skins, maxed level crafter, all the gear sets and maelstrom weapons (multiple flawless runs) etc. I guess it wont be bad, considering that I am going to have two friends playing with me leveling with me. They are pretty serious about gaming too, so I don't think they would just play it for a couple weeks and bail on me lol. The only joy I get anymore from playing on XBOX1 is raiding. I used to sit for hours at night, after my family went to bed, farming dungeons, world bosses, delves, and basically shooting the crap with a bunch of my friends that I had played with when the game launched. After Morrowind dropped, they started leaving one by one and now I am the only one left, so I get on and raid in my guilds, and do my dailies and log off.

There is also going to be a lot of learning for me to do. Its well known that console does not have any add ons. I would not know where to even start on which ones I should get, or even how to put them on my machine. Any advice? There are some things that I am excited for. I will love the buff trackers, especially for my nightblade tracking my dots and my buffs, and the way the game runs in general. On Xbox frame rate and lag has always been an issue. In trials frame rates on the XBOX1 have always been crap. I thought it was my internet connection when I first started raiding, but its a widespread issue with XB1. Some people have it better than others, better ISPs, geographical locations, better hardware XBOX1s, etc.....but its still not as a good experience as the pc guys have, such as frame rates.

I truly look forward to playing with some of you PC guys soon!

I moved from PS4 NA to PC NA:

    1. Found PC more populated
    2. Addons very useful
    3. Less lags comparing PS4 NA, can now atleast see ping
    4. Big communities around, mostly using Discord
    5. Playing with PS4 controller and its working fine
    6. Enjoyed a lot by starting over ESO again
    7. Items prices are much cheaper than PS4 or Xbox

A wired xbox controller is supported out of the box if you're running Windows so no need to muck about with extra drivers. You can totally play with a controller, but if you take a little time to learn the keyboard mouse method, you might like it. There's a lot you can keybind in this game so you can fire off a whole sequence quickly, or toggle everything. It's very useful! Give it a shot!

The easiest way to add-ons is to get the ad on manager Minion, then search. Even just searching "all" and sortiing by most downloaded will get you what the community feels is the most useful stuff. Enjoy your fresh start!

PS if you can, buy the game direct from ESO. Don't use Steam to play unless you have no other option.

Thats awsome, were you at endgame when you made the switch? I am kinda excited for the fresh start, but I just dread all those maelstrom runs again LOL.

I apologize for seeming so ignorant, but I have never PC gamed. When you say direct from ESO, does that mean like say purchasing a copy from gamestop or walmart? That is what I am planning on doing if it is. I am going to give the keyboard and mouse a go and see how plays for me. If it doesn't work out for me then there is always the controller I can fall back on.

You might be losing your items/gear/CP/etc, but you'll still have your experience with the game. If you were able to get all of this on Xbox, you'll get it on PC too, most likely at a much faster rate.

WOW, you really made a sacrifice. What was the hardest thing for you to get used to once you made the switch? How big of a noticeable difference was it in game performance? How was the grind getting back to Max CP?

I moved from Xbox to pc 18 months ago and loved it. Runs much smoother and found it much busier than Xbox was when I left.

I moved to mouse and keyboard and it probably took a couple weeks to really get comfortable but since I was only questing didn’t really matter. Once I was used to it I found it much better overall in combat and navigation of all the info tabs.

Addons are a massive plus too and I’d encourage getting minion and trying them out. I was like a kid in a sweet shop at first trying loads.

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

And make us a record, a new number one

It is a pain you can’t swap but Catching up isn’t too bad to be honest. I’ve nearly got 1k CP in 18 months and 200+ of every gold mat - minus jewellery ofc!

I’ve found getting into trials etc much easier too and there’s a few guilds that do lots of social runs. I’ve even picked up a few vMol/Hof clears in my trading guild.

I wanted to get achievements on my new main so went through Caldwell’s zones etc and wasps CP by the time I’d completed it. Add to that I was getting VMA weapons at 160CP and monster sets I was able to pull pretty good DPS early doors so even getting trials at this lower level was fine.

I think that I would feel the same way if I still had my friends that I played on xbox with when I started out. I have tried making new friends on the xbox and I am friends with some great people now, but its just not the same. I usually make some friends and I help them gain about 200 cp, and help them with gear, and rotations and then they get into guilds and start doing their own thing. There is nothing wrong with that I just miss the social part of the game, which I find is equally valuable and enjoyable as the end game raiding.

Im pretty close with the couple that I will be coming to PC with so that will ease the pain of starting all over. I am still going to play on x box tho and sign up for raids and such, just as I do now, but after raid off to the PC I go lol.

    • Do NOT get the game from steam
    • Addons are awesome and really make the game more enjoyable since the game lacks even rudimentary things like crafting multiple potions
    • lag and fps drops are still there even on pc and quite bad in some trials and in pvp
    • get minion for managing your Addons
    • even if you have a really strong pc set some settings down when you raid
    • Doing random dungeons and bg helps a lot with grinding exp

    Useful addons:
    • Action duration reminder: really awesome minimalistic addon to track your buffs/dots/skills
    • map pins: nice addon for psijic grind, mag guild grind, and anything else
    • multi craft:
    • Craftstore: addon for crafting - an overview of learned styles, traits,.. interface for cooking and enchantments...
    • potion maker: interface for alchemy station

    • inventory inside: shows the inventory of all your characters
    • alpha gear: save your gear+skills and change with 1 click
    • combat metric: DPS meter
    • raidnotifier: must for raiding
    • votan searchbox: search your inventory
    • awesome guild store: better guild store interface
    • Bandits ui: a nice UI with many features
    • BeamMEup: an addon to port to players from guilds if you want to port for free

Oh yeh i wouldnt get the game from steam after seeing all the issues it has.

Where do you get the add ons from? somewhere like nexus mods?

As you can tell im really battling this, i got a new rig just for the purpose of playing ESO, but found myself restarting on D3 and Grim Dawn instead

I know many IT guys that don't understand the additional requirements, both core and quality of life, than gamers need. So if you find yourself needing second opinions, or someone to look over what your friend is doing, let me know.

P.S. Do not play with controller on PC. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get used to the keyboard and mouse. My advice, buy a keyboard with MMO game pad built in. I use Merc Stealth.

    Welcome.

    My 2 cents:

Rip of the band-aid and dont even bother with a controller. Learn to mouse and keyboard. It is objectively a superior interface. I highly recommend some sort of multi button gaming mouse like the Razer Naga. I occasionally use a controller for fishing and that sort of thing, but for full combat, you just dont have enough buttons IMO.

Dont buy from Steam. No personal experience on my end, just see almost daily threads about how bad it is.

I use Minion as an addon manager. Most of the good addons have already been mentioned. A few I could not live without:

-Map pins - Puts just about anything you need on your map. Really useful for the psijic grind
-Combat metrics - Best tool to analyze post combat DPS
-Srendarr - Most robust and customizable buff tracker
-Action Duration Reminder - Simple but effective skill tracker (adds a timer over your skill bar).
-Awesome guild store - Make searching traders less of a nightmare
-Dolgubons Lazy Writ Crafter - Crafts writs for you. If I was starting a brand new account, first thing I would do is power level one of each class and start doing daily crafting writs. Great source of wealth in this game.
-Writworthy - Crafts master writs for you.
-Azurah - Basically lets you re-position anything on your interface

There are certainly a lot of other useful addons, but these would be hard to live without.

While I would never tell anyone to not buy the best graphics card they can afford, what I will say is that the RTX 2080 is likely overkill for this game unless you are trying to push very high frames in 4k. This game is a CPU hog, so make sure you are dont skimp out there. If you have the money for the RTX, knock yourself out, but dont get it if it means sacrificing elsewhere. One of the biggest problems I have seen new PC players make is they blow most of the budget on the graphics card, and the rest of the hardware becomes the bottleneck.

    Welcome to PC !

As everyone says : do NOT get your game on Steam. There is a lot of issues with login into the game using a Steam version of the game (I have a Steam version myself, so I can say it's *** !), just buy the game directly from Bethesda website.

A lot of addons to install indeed, if I have to choose one: LUI Extended ! Very well maintained and I simply can't play without it.

Be careful, installing to much addons will quickly ruins you game FPS (Master Merchant, for example, is ruining my game, I enable/disable it whenever I need it or I have ~15 fps all the time).

That looks a pretty nice keyboard, might have to be getting myself one of those.

Some great advice in this thread i have to say, the only thing annoying me now is, i will miss out on murkmire as the daily reward on pc but would have it onconsole

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

You're going to be surprised how noobish the majority of PC players are. Fair warning. When I was leveling up cp I had people tell me they wouldn't try a vet dungeon with anyone who did under 30k dps after I asked if anyone would do darkshade 2. I was like 200 something cp and just got 'good enough' gear to be at just over 20k at that time. So fair warning lol.

You can still use xbox controller, but pc ui is better and alot of addons don't do well in gamepad mode. For pve it will probably be easier for you to transition to mouse and keyboard though.

Getting gold is way easier. You have the tools and data to play the market so you can make money by just finding deals and flipping it or just crafting.

You will be amazed though that the most difficult learning curve is the lack of lag. On pc you can actually use every global cooldown, which changes the way you're used to playing. I guess its more noticable in pvp though.

Playing on PC is almost like playing a completely different game, it runs that much better.

So, the day has finally came and I have got my gaming rig. I was just wondering what is the difference in buying eso on a disk, to say, getting it on steam? I have heard some people say not to bother with steam and just by the game. What are the negatives of steam as compared to buying a copy?

Don't do steam. PLEASE. Just don't. Buy the game from ZOS. Steam.... is not a great option at all. A friend told me to go with steam to begin with. Lord it was a problem - couldn't get logged in, if I did couldn't stay logged in. Had to get with ZOS CS to figure out how to get around the crap - and also had to buy the game from ZOS again (it was on sale for 10 bucks, but I would have at that point paid WHATEVER just to be able to play....)

You can get a digital code from ZOS, don't need a disk. Hopefully..... you have plenty of bandwidth....

I've never used consoles, so have no idea about controllers. But I have friends who've ALWAYS used controller options with the PC version. How they do that, I don't know. But likely there are people around here who can point you in the right direction.

    Welcome to addons!
