I'm having the exact same issue. I dread having to do a reinstall though because it could take forever.

When I tried using the Game Consultant to generate a report for support, it gave me a 425mb txt file that wouldn't even open.

    Repair client.

If client is freezing; Open Launcher> Pause Immediately (before launcher freezes)> Click gear icon> Cancel Update> Repair Client

Client should patch by itself and fix corrupted files after verifying. Also, wrong forums.

This is what I have noticed in my "4+ years" of being a professional ESO Patch installer.

When the installer gets stuck, in most cases, it seems to be trying to replace a file that is currently being used. The easiest way to solve this issue is to just completely restart your computer then install an update.

I Just got the Launcher to unfreeze long enough to choose repair under the options, but after supposedly repairing it did the exact same thing again only now it's stuck at 1%. It will show "Download Stalled" in bottom-left corner with 0.0 k/s download speed and "Pause" where the Play button normally is. This is when it freezes up, and just sits there until it closes/crashes.

Did this to me this week as well. Installing and connecting to a VPN immediately fixed it. Haven't used the VPN since and eso has worked fine since. Stupid that i had to do that but until my sub runs out what choice do I have?

VPNs will help many of these stuck at X issues. Zos is having some of their files blocked by ISPs. I’m not sure what Zos is doing to resolve this issue. They haven’t commented on it in a very long time. I guess, ”No ETA.”

Tried one out and it worked flawlessly. I've no idea why ESO would be blocked by my ISP considering they've never done so before. Thank you very much.

I used windscribe 2 days ago for my laptop.
    • Go to their website and register an account with a username and password (email optional but recommended).
    • download the program/install program.
    • It opens on your screen (see picture). Hit the ''On' button.
    • Open the ESO Launcher/Patcher and your files will resume.
    • Turn off windscribe as soon as you get past the file that was blocked.
    • Repeat if another file gets blocked (usually around 12%.

Did you try rebooting your entire system? It works for me. In fact the updater got stuck today at 16% for me and nothing worked. I rebooted the PC and TADA downloads patch and a few minutes later im selecting my character. Probably the third time i have had to reboot the entire pc to unstick the launcher in the last couple of months.

    Open and close the launcher.

Download will progress painfully slow until it hits a “magic %”. For me this falls somewhere between 22% and 38%, at which point magic happens and it finishes instantly.

A full reinstall did NOT fix my issue.

This happens every patch to me and at least one of my gaming friends and her husband. All three on different systems in different households and radio silence re: possible reasons or fixes. :(

I know this won't solve everyones problem, but let me explain something that might help someone.

When I was new, ESO kept crashing on me. I would be playing the game and then eso would just shut down. When it came time to install ESO updates, a process that should be easy, would take forever. The installer would get stuck, it would display -1 or -12 on the installer and just sit there. I spent so much time, trying to update, repair, and reinstall the game.

One morning I wokeup and my computer sounded like it was running in overtime. So I took a look at the processes running in the background and noticed I had like 7 ESO's running ( ESO wasn't even open ). So I came to the conclusion that each time ESO crashed on me it would never close some ESO files and that is why I had around 7 ESO's running.

A few years ago, I was updating eso and it froze on me. I closed the installer and then checked to see if any ESO processes were running in the background. There was and I stopped them, then opened up the installer and the game updated completely. Since that day I never had any issues installing updates.

Previously, I posted that restarting your computer should fix the problem. If it doesn't then more than likely you are not having the same type of problem I experienced.

This is what i usually do ( not needing to restart my computer ) if the installer gets stuck.

    1. I close the installer.
    2. press Control + Alt + Delete
    3. Click on "Start Task manager"
    4. Click on Process tab
    5. Sort By name and look for anything that has "ESO" in the name
    6. If you see ESO, right click on the name and select 'end process''
    7. Close the task manager
    8. open the Eso installer and everything should work

If for some reason it gets stuck again, go back to the task manager and check to see if you missed one the eso processes and then try again.

This is just an example of what I used ot see when I had problems.

The bizarre thing about the whole "The ISP is blocking the patch" theory is that both myself and my bf were having the same patching issues, and doing a number of troubleshooting steps worked for me while the issue remains on his end after having went through the same steps. If it is really the ISP, then shouldn't I have continued to have trouble as well?

Most of these sorts of issues can be resolved/prevented by switching off the computer each night and running a patch from a newly booted machine with no residual files open from a previous play session.

Switching off the pc and starting up again did nothing for my case. I thought it might be the IP blocking the update because all other connections worked fine. If that's not the root of the problem, i'd venture to guess Windows 10 is mucking something up again but I've run out of ideas. At least I got it working for now.

Update/Edit: Customer Service just confirmed in a ticket that this is an IP issue.

Restarting didn't work. Task manager thing didn't work. Repair didn't work. Launcher still stalling and crashing to desktop. This is frustrating and we shouldn't have to download a VPN just to be able to play the game.

I had a somewhat similar issue related to something interfering with my downloading a couple of game files. The launcher would immediately jump to 9% and then stall until it crashed.

I ended up having to manually enter the URLs for the files into my browser, download to my desktop, transfer them to the appropriate ESO folders, and then everything was fine. There's a long thread in the Support forum about it happening to other folks. This past Tuesday was the first time it'd ever happened to me.
