Performance Issues Nvidia GT650M/Intel 4000 HD graphics

natev215

So I played ESO back during one of the earlier betas, before buying the retail game, and I was getting a steady 40-60fps with these specs:

(Alienware M14XR2)
Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.3GHz
Nvidia GT 650M 2GB
16 GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit

Now I am trying to play ESO and I can barely sustain 10 fps on those same settings. I tried to see if this was because the game was not utilizing my Nvidia Graphics card and favoring my Intel 4000 HD integrated graphics instead. However, I have Optimus set to run the GT 650M card for anything and everything and upon checking the game by trying to play with my Intel 4000 HD card and recieving an increase in frame rate I grow very concerned.

There's no way my Intel 4000 HD integrated graphics card should be running this game better(still terribly) than my Nvidia GT 650M. All my drivers are updated and my heat levels are normal, if not relatively cold. Also, my Nvidia GeForce experience application is telling me I should be able to run optimally on High/Medium setting.

Can someone please tell me what's going on? Are Nvidia M cards not optimized for this game('s most recent patch) yet? What could explain my drastic decrease in performance from Beta to Retail?

I play with every thing set to the max(cept' reflections) and at 1600x900 with a 520m.. OC'd of course. You shouldn't be having problems, though that's the thing about computers though isn't it.

I know I shouldn't be encountering any problems, but I am, and I really needs some ideas as to what is causing this, thanks for assuring me it is an issue outsides of Nvidia M cards in general though.

Likewise, running on 'medium'with a GTX 650. I say 'medium' because no matter what I do most of my settings have a tooltip saying they need to be applied... no matter what I do. I average 20 fps ANYWHERE and drop to 10 in town. Problem didn't show up until EA.

    Just waitin' for my refund.
What do you gain by criticizing a CSR complaint?

I don't need a refund, I mean it worked before and it's working for CBBNT, I can play the game (which seems to be better than most) but I cannot play it at 10 fps and I didn't buy this game to run it on low settings, so as long as I get this figured out, I'm not gonna be too miffed about anything.

Setup a custom profile within nVidia control panel? Force GPU and add all the AA / modes you want. Don't rely on auto anything

I can try to do that, I'll report back letting you know how that goes.

First off, a laptop is not for gaming, I dont care want anyone says... it just isnt.

There are many reasons why and I am sure anyone can tell you.

Secondly, have you tried anything? You havent told us anything, so I am going to assume you havent. Perhaps the basics would be in order here, like attempting driver fixes, if your HD is SSD, etc.

Yes yes, all hail desktop overlords! You can play games on a laptop just fine, I don't care what anyone says. I do, and have.

Actually, he did express that he has updated all drivers and the basics. I am having the same issue. I ran fine before, now it does not.

    We need some answers.

Why should any of that matter? My HD is SS Boot, and I haven't attempted any driver fixes as I wouldn't know how to go about that, all I know is my drivers are up to date and my GPU is running fine on my other applications(I'm sorry I don't know everything about GPUs/that's why I asked here).

As for not telling you anything or trying anything, I did mention that it is for sure running on the GT650M and that it is performing more poorly than my intel card (something I checked), and my heat levels are normal. Also, I tried making a custom program setting for ESO using Nvidia control panel (to gaurantee it uses the GT650M) and that didn't work, and I restarted and it still didn't work.

Thank you, a laptop PC is still a PC, I understand desktop PCs can be made inherently more powerful and for less money, but besides that, there is no reason you can't game on a laptop.

I concur, it took me about a month to figure out how I could log it at my college (had to use a wired connection in an academic building were they don't limit/cap bandwidth), and I would really just like to play this damn game and enjoy it. I really liked ESO when I could play it a few beta sessions ago (and I don't usually like MMOs) and I want to finally play it in its retail state :P.

As far as I'm aware both Nvidia and AMD didn't release driver updates for "optimizations" towards ESO.... yet

Maybe not, but in their "special" program that suggests optimized settings, ESO is listed and I could choose optimized settings. They were pretty close to what I already had anyways so that shouldn't effect how it is running.

I'm glad it works for you but that doesn't really help me solve my problem, my game/GPU ran fine during beta, and now my primary dedicated GPU is running worse than my CPU integrated graphics card? I don't understand.

I use a 5 year old laptop and on Medium ( textures are high ) Settings, 1280x1024 resolution

I get around 35-41 fps in PVE

In Pvp itr drops 20s but never freezes ( massive battles )

So you computer should get more than 30 easily
try messing with settings in game, and re install your driver for graphics card

BUT before you do any of these, try another game and see if it works?
if yes, then play with the ESO settings. your answer is there.

I know I should be getting somewhere in the range of 35-50 at least for FPS at the settings I have it on, perhaps there is something wrong with my GPU or my drivers that is not being shown through their monitoring programs.

That is the crux of the issue and frustration. If it never worked to begin with, then I would chalk it up to insufficient hardware, but since I know for a fact I can and very well HAVE ran the game perfectly smooth and sexy; I know its not my fault.

I consistently searching for a solutions and I came here for help, not to be told "works for me, sucks for you".

    So can we solve this?

Just tried to run AC 3 at the usual settings I used to play it on at 30-40 fps only to find 5-15fps there as well, maybe my PC is just overworked, I don't know what could be causing these framerate dips besides my PC not selecting my primary graphics card for games (that used to be the case 100% of the time this kinda thing happened, but I have all my setting set for it to run regardless so I shouldn't be encountering this).

Last night I was getting awesome performance, 45-60 fps, no lag and I had never fallen through the world. Today I log in and the game runs like hell. fps is 6-9, lag is unbearable, and I'm constantly falling through the world. Changed all my settings to the lowest and it barely did anything. Ran speed tests on my connection (25.6 Mps download, 6.4 Mps Upload), checked my drivers, nothing seems to be wrong on my end and other games run fine.

I ran through beta, headstart and the first 4 days of live no problem but this is a deal breaker for me if it doesn't get better.

Same with me the past 24ish hours. I would only lag when there was lots of mobs and in a full party. Now I drop to low/low and can't even pan my view around without stuttering. No AA

Med/Med seems about the same lol. HD 4000 (vacationing with crappy Thinkpad)
