Battlegrounds MMR account-wide or character based?

Until about 2 weeks, ago, I played almost only PVE, except daily battlegrounds for exp on each of my 4 lvl 50 chars. I was keeping my pve build, all divine with no defensive/sustain set. I was playing vs other ppl my lvl, probably also in PVE gear. I didn't wreck anything, but I could hold my ground in almost every game.

Then, 2 weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to do a pvp toon. So I crafted and farmed pvp sets and transmuted them all in impen (except the crafted one... I crafted it directly in impen, duh). I slammed them on my stamDK and respecced CPs and skills. Unsurprisingly, it wrecked EVERYTHING in BGs, since I was still playing vs pve-focused toons. Slowly, I started to get slightly better opponents, but I still complete my deathmatches with over 4000 points regurlarly, sometimes over 5k.

At the same time, when I go back to my daily BGs with my other 3 pve toons, I get totally wrecked by everyone, which didn't happened before. TBF, my 2 mag chars got hit bad by the shield nerf in murkmire, but even my pve stamsorc gets owned.

I have the feeling that my pvp stamDK is pulling my MMR up, making my 3 pve chars completly useless, while my 3 pve chars are pulling the same MMR down, preventing my pvp stamDK to face strong opponents. Is that possible? I really thought that MMR was character based.

Very interesting, and yes having it account bound makes some sense, you could have respected and geared your alts for momentum.
On the other hand its a bit like queuing for normal dungeons on an alt with no good build or gear for the skillpoints and get into vet fang lair as you have cleared it HM on another character.
No good options, if dungeon finder was smart (LOL) it would error on the low side, for pvp and that many uses snitch builds for this, don't know.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it is based on your character, not your account. I play BGs with a friend who clearly has a very high MMR on her main healer. Queues can easily take 45 minutes with her. If she uses an alt, queue times and opponent quality drop noticeably.

Your gear has nothing to do with your MMR as far as I know. If you consistently play with all 4 toons, it stands to reason that all of their MMRs are climbing. Couple that with a big meta shift (one that doesnt help magic all that much) and I think we have the answer. At some point, your PVE gear is not going to cut it in a higher MMR BG.

It’s character based. Wish they would do something about the que times. Can’t play my main anymore unless I want to stay in que forever.

It would make some sense if they only take player's skill in account, but build plays a too great part in character's strength, imo.

Interesting story about your friend's healer. Gives me some hope for my alts. Altough I'm in no hurry to get there on my main. I like them 30 secs queues.

I know my gear has nothing to do with MMR but performances should, right? I mean, if my team finishes evenly within 1st-3rd places and I consistently score 2nd or 3rd on my team, my MMR should stay the same, even if I play 1000 games a day? On the other hand, when I win almost every game with a 15-2-20 score (due to the build), my MMR should go up pretty fast and match me with strong opponents within 2-3 matches, right?

    Thanks for the confirmation.

It used to be character based.

We know that when Murkmire launches they changed the formula a little. We assume it’s still character based but we’re not 100% sure anymore.

I still log into my main and the que is 15+ minutes while my character new to BGs takes less than a minute.

Ditto. But there’s always the possibility that it’s a combination of both character and account.

I’m still operating as if it’s 100% character based though.

I seem to remember the rumour that not only performance but also pure number of matches played a role in your MMR. So if you do regular BGs on a char, they'll level up their MMR anyway, so it's to be expected that you'll get pitted against stronger opponents.

That seems weird. Why would someone, completly on par with the average strength level of it's opponents, get higher MMR? It's not that I don't believe you, but I find it strange that ZoS would do such a thing.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I know a plethora of people already asked you to explain the logic behind the MMR system, but if you gave just a couple of hints, I think it would be benificial for everyone. If not, is there a reason you don't share anything in this regard?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

The current working theory with the strongest evidence is that it is your cumulative medal score from all matches played.

Omg... So if I’m a complete potato with some sort of physical limitation that just really really loves BG and do them 10 h a day (I don’t, it’s just a figure), I will constantly rank up until I finish all my games 0-20-0? Seems fun as hell...
