I wanted an adventurer's feel to it and didn't really have enough gold to buy a huge mansion so went with the Captain Margaux's Place which is quite dinky. As it has a tall ceiling I decided to gather planks and make some stairs and an upper level. I made it a little messy as I see it as more of an adventurers crash space where my main sleeps between gathering ancient relics and questing and I tried to include as many little pieces from all the zones I have visited in my time in ESO.
It's been fun making it a little at a time and has grown into something that has significant meaning to me, each of the pieces holds some sort of memory of something I did in game that is important to me. It's nothing flashy or grand, it's just cosy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj1QQ6arjdw&feature=youtu.be
The backstories I've made up for my characters. Not that anyone else can see/hear it, but I enjoy making it up and referring back to it to decide what they'd do in any situation. (Although then I get frustrated that the game can't alter NPCs responses based on more info about your character - like when the Glenmoril Wyrd were telling my khajiit they won't see her around much at the end of the quest chain and I wanted to be able to say "Actually I live just down the road so I'm in this area a lot!")
Id like to read some of these backstories you refer to

It makes me happy because I stuck with it and conquered the construction issues
It's bigger than it looks
