I could not play ESO without my reshade and using the nvdia filters. But some things really do need a texture update. The original motifs for example, look very flat, bland and low resolution when compared alongside newer motifs and costumes.

I think most of the world textures hold up quite well still, but some monsters could use a fresh lick of paint. Even add more colours to the same mobs to add some variety. And new weathers like fog etc.

Can you share what are you using? I've always played ESO without anything. Just want to see would it be better with a little touch or not.

This is what I am still using.

I should advise you though, since the last patch I think there was a very small lighting change to the game. At least myself and others have noticed, so you might need to tweak it somewhat. Check out the screenshots, it's still the best Reshade IMO.

Played around a bit with ReShade and NV settings but they do nothing but oversaturate, oversharpen and overblur things. Now my eyes hurt. :#

I don't want ESO to turn into Black Desert Online. I just mentioned them is they are the only MMO that I know of that has changed their graphics. Thanks for letting me know that ZOS said they will not change their graphics. Good to know. Also it's a shame to know since that shows me that ZOS doesn't have long term plans for the game and only short turn plans.

I like to invest more in ESO but if the plug can be pulled any moment, it's hard to invest. From what I read there could be 2 more years of ESO and after that who knows. Just hoping to see what ZOS would have for the long term.

It’s a 10 year (original) plan. Which can easily be extended with the amount of lore in elder scrolls but what might happen is they make a part two or decide to do a game changing expansion like long running mmos.

Thank you very much for that. So another 5 years. If plans don't change that sounds, good. I will keep investing. I was just worried about the two years when I saw in their twitch shows or somewhere where I can't remember now. I was always leary of MMOs pulling the plug and for what ever reason the other day, I had fears since I can't get into other games with dated graphics. This is reassuring. Of course, plans can change.

What is this suppose to mean? This directed at me or someone else?

It's directed at this thread and it's central topic. "Do you think they'll update the graphics?" "The graphics are fine" (i.e, they don't need to be updated.)

    ---

Also, not sure how "they're not going to change the graphics" = "they have no long-term plans for the game". There are a number of ancient MMOs with relatively primitive graphics that are still being supported by their companies. Just because someone isn't chasing the ever-moving Uber Graphics target, doesn't mean they don't plan to continue their game.
(honestly, trying to chase the 'cutting edge' of graphics seems like a fool's errand. And again, as I said earlier, just because graphics get better, doesn't automatically make the previous stuff bad or ugly. Especially these days.)

Honestly, I think the only gen of graphics that really aged terribly was the PS1 era. The first round of 3D, but with nowhere near enough polygons and poor understanding of camera control. SNES and PS2 era games still look great to me (if they looked 'great' when they came out, that is. Stuff that was released with poor art design is still poor.)

WOW has always had bad/funny graphics and yet still number 1.

I would expect the character modelling gets updated but not the overall world (which looks really good already)

For example adding capes and floating textures instead of having all costumes etc glued to your char would be something I would guess happens eventually.

Someone said engine has a limitation rendering capes. True? Hope not. I would love to see some textures update, once you are in 1st person view they are awful. Character modelling and overall animation upgrade would be amazing. They are trying to improve things very slowly but they should think about consoles too. At the moment PS4 is limiting them very much.

I doubt it will ever get overhauled. I think their are limitations on the engines that prevent graphics from being improved past a certain point. I understand where you are coming from. I had some really awesome favorite single players from 15-20 years ago and now i try to play them and i cant just get into them anymore. its like watching a black and white 13 inch tv.

We are more likely to get an ESO 2 with a newer engine( and set in a different time) than a graphics update.

They won't improve appearance of old, base game zones because they won't earn any money from doing it. They're not a charity.

Digital Extremes isn't a charity either but they've been consistently "remastering" old graphics and even entire models for stuff in Warframe, a free game, for years now. Even on garbage weapons that have 0 hope of ever selling in their cash shop (i.e. starter weapons you get free anyway). They've remastered entire tilesets - what would be ESO's equivalent of zones, except modular. The whole "they're not a charity" doesn't really fly when a F2P developer is doing it and still raking in the cash.

There actually is financial benefit when games look better because indeed some people out there will see it and say "wow, that looks great, I want to buy that!"

It also just helps with the consistency of ESO as a product. The difference between vanilla zones and DLC/Chapter zones is very visible.

It doesn't need an overhaul but the older areas, sets and other assets need a bit of a rework so they look as gorgeous as the DLC areas and stuff.

Nope, but I have no huge gripes about ESO's graphics...Except the post-processing effects are lacking and I'd love a genuine screenshot mode instead of fiddling with the camera sliders. The recent DLCs/Expacs have looked gorgeous though while not advanced technically.

Then again, I'm not huge into graphics nor care about them, I'm more into the gameplay or story. As long as the game runs at a smooth 60fps, I'm fine which I why I don't care about unnecessary graphical detail.
Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where destiny is made.

I play healers or DPS often for vet dungeons and trials (NA, CP810+). I play mostly elves or Argonians.
I primarily play Damage-Based stuff in PvP, but occasionally I'll play something tanky or got the heals.
I also love gaining more knowledge both metaphysical and mundane regarding TES lore.

I also occasionally role-play, but I prefer playing the game.

I just wish there were waves on the ocean. It's so flat and still.

If you ever played TES Oblivion (single player game) where there is mods that change weather or water (enviromental mods), then you also might know that anything making water to move more realistic and have physical reaction to enviroment (waves that will be thrown back when it meets stones, cliffs or beaches, water that change direction on surface from direction of winds etc) will have a big impact on performance.

Already now it is recommended to use LOW setting for water reflection as it also have a large impact on FPS (part of it being related to how lightning effects are being processed) and it doesn't bring that much of visual improvement to go any higher in settings for water reflection. There are also area with water that isn't seen in game, but still need to be ready to be presented if you turn around fast or move.

Water and grass (if each straw is to be made to react as individual objects from wind, changing direction of lightning or from animals movement etc) are two very demanding task to create realistic and at same time with as little impact on hardwares processing power (GPU+CPU).

Really the game needs animation updates the worst, after riding a horse in RDR2, the mount animations in ESO are painful, but I doubt seriously the homebrewed engine can handle anything past what it has.

Hmmm. Well my settings certainly do not fall into any of the categories that you mention. My ESO has a gritty, dark fantasy look. You would think it was an ENB. I would post some screenshots but I refuse to pay for image hosting, gaming nickel and dimes me enough as it is.

The reshade itself can be tweaked alongside the NV filters, but these can take time and a lot of experimentation to get the desired results. But you can pretty much adjust everything to your liking, it’s not for everyone though I guess.
