Confused on Damage Calculations Based on Weapon

I'm a bit confused on how damage is calculated based on which skill I'm using. Here's a situation:

Ability: Funnel Health

The everything I've read about the ability says the damage is calculated as follows:

$1 = 0.09611 Magicka + 1.00804 SpellDamage + 1.31335
Magicka, R2 = 1.00000, Ratio = 10.49

Fair enough, but my question is what happens when I use the ability with a bow equiped? The base damage will be calculated based off Magicka because it consumes magicka to cast, but does the damage calculation then use weapon or skill damage?

Thanks.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Bah, I'm tried. I meant does the calculation use weapon or spell damage?

Okay thanks, next question. How are auto attack damage calculated? Is it based off of the weapon itself, so I assume a bow would be physical damage and I'd need physical penetration?

I guess where I'm coming from is I'm a magblade. Typically all magblades use destro staves but I've been thinking, why are there so many melee magicka based nightblade abilities if we can't use melee weapons?

I'm considering trying out either a bow (for aesthetics) or dual wield magblade build and want to make sure it can work before investing the time.

The bow passives sort of suck; all they provide is ~5% crit and a damage boost but only for bow abilities. I'd need to make up for the loss of spell penetration and increased damage from a fire staff.

Your weapon provides both spell AND weapon damage, regardless of what weapon type it is. It is the abilities themselves that scale off of one stat or the other.

Stamina weapons light and heavy attack scale with stamina and weapon damage. The largest two reasons you are not going to use melee weapons on a magblade is light attacks do so much damage, upwards of 20%+ of your DPS. And then there is the passives from the destruction staff tree, 8% more single target is substantial. You can use whatever weapons you want and use the class skill you are talking about but you will be gimping yourself for no good reason.

So really light attacks are the biggest deterent. The ultimates scale off the higher of magicka or stamina and was hoping there wouldn't be so much downside.

I was leaning towards dual wield/fire and adding lotus fan, concealed weapon and Rend for dual wield. The passives for dual wield are a lot better than the passives for bows.

I believe Bethesda or Zenimax hired MIT-based mathematicians as consultants to work on the ESO project. Hence, why it's so comprehensive and complicated. I just play the game.. ha ha
