What if we chose the faction at each start of campaign?

Obviously any race can be in any faction and all factions do pve together... But you don't always know who you are going to pvp with

Many players have characters in all factions and jump around. What if we just chose the faction we were in at the start of a campaign/when you enter for the first time?

    Short answer: no

I could imagine this leaving a whole faction basically empty with everybody flocking to one faction depending on which one won the previous campaign.

I imagine that faction changing for crowns would be more likely.

Then we'd need a third 30 day campaign, because I want them Transmutation Geodes from all my characters, dammit!

And there ain't no way I'm getting to tier 1 on 15 characters in 7 day campaigns. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I think they should simply rotate bases, so that you can get a little variety in what area of the map you are fighting.

Huh? I was just suggesting you choose the faction when you choose the campaign.. so if you sign vivec for 30 days with ebonheart then you are there with that character for the duration.

Might be interesting to make the selection account wide for the duration as well

To be honest, I'm not really sure what the effect would be, but right now you can play any faction and flip flop anyways...I think it might improve things... But I could be wrong

On a per campaign basis I would love to see faction locking. I was talking to a friend how bad faction swapping in this game is, and I spoke to it as I would to competitive team playing sports. Put this question to yourselves. You're playing a team sport, and your team is losing, or your stats are hurting because the team is having a bad game/season/etc.. How many people do you know would stop the game, and change teams? I've never seen this happen. Honestly if there were players that were flip-flops IRL, it would be a true representation of their poor character, and demonstrates they cannot be trusted when they are on your team.

What they should look at is allowing you to home a campaign for only one faction. Account wide...

That way it's not stopping people from pvping as they like... but limited rewards and emperor to the faction you chose to home as (and obviously the character(s) of that faction you played).

I think that is what I said on one of the replies

It used to be that way. A lot of my guild left when they changed it to the current traitorus system. Should put a label above your head stating "Traitor" if you play more than one faction in a particular campaign on one account.

Please don’t forget - This would be hostile to those who mainly (or only) set foot in Cyrodiil for PvE or to unlock alliance war skill lines.

My bad, @ck37090, I misunderstood your suggestion then. So you're saying I can get on my AD toon, go to enter Cyrodiil for the first time during a campaign, and it'll ask me which side I want to fight for for the month?

Aside from how this rubs me the wrong way for what thin lore-based reasons there are, I can't say I'm against the idea. Might be kinda cool to take my lightning-wielding magSorc for a spin on the EP side of the fight. Get my inferno knight DK causing havoc over on the DC lines. Stuff like that has a certain amount of appeal, I guess.

It'd be a neat thing to try, I suppose. Kinda falls in the "meh" category for me, though.

Thanks for clarifying the suggestion, OP!

I could actually see it going a few ways... You could choose for your account which side to fight for... It could be per campaign, where you could pick different campaigns for different characters and different sides but only one side per campaign... It could be each character picks the side for a month

Personallyi would like to see it account wide you pick your faction for the month so you are only fighting for that side... Win, lose our draw... But that's me

And really any lore based reasons were pretty much out the window on release with any race any faction... You basically choose which side you want to play on at creation, but you meet new people, people leave game, you join new guilds...I just think it would be nice to change the pvp faction per campaign to play with the people you want to and work the characters you want...

Honestly, in retrospect, I think the solution is a bit simpler. Give us incentives to see one side win. These used to be how it worked, the problem was that players would (somewhat) coordinate, and select a buff server.

So, your home campaign and your guest campaign have distinct bonuses provided to each member of that alliance the closer they are to "victory." Keeps held, scrolls controlled, are they the Emperor.

The critical thing is that these bonuses need to be unique. So Vivec offers one bonus, Sotha Sil offers another, and so on. Probably an exp, AP, or gold gained buff for Shor.

Give us a reason to commit to a campaign, and give us a reason why we'd want to win.

Back in "the old days," victory wasn't really a consideration, because there were three vet campaigns, so you'd pick one for each alliance.

Hell, these bonuses could be PvE related. Like a bonus that gives you additional Undaunted XP each time you clear a dungeon and grants you an additional set drop each time you kill a dungeon or trial boss. So, there's a reason for people to drag themselves into Vivec.

Grab your PvPers and drag them into Shor with AP buffs, or improved Reward for the Worthy Caches. Get your newer 50s lured into PvP with an Enlightenment buff in Sotha Sil.

Find reasons to get someone to pick a specific campaign and actually want to see their side dominate the map.

This could be, simply, a scaling buff based on the number of scrolls controlled, a scaling buff based on the number of keeps held, and a Boolean buff based on if your alliance has an Emperor.
