#OurElderScrolls - Why the exclusions?

I saw this promotion and the chance to enter the sweepstakes to win one of those magnificent prizes on offer. I felt quite excluded and a bitterly disappointed when I found that I was excluded from the chance of entry due to my country of residence.

Why have Australia and New Zealand been left out of this great event? #OurElderScrolls? How about just #ElderScrollsforsomebutnoteveryone.

Is our money not as good as those in the countries that are allowed to participate? Is this just another conspiracy to purposely exclude the greatest nations on the planet?

What possible excuse can you provide that can dispel your obvious disregard for your faithful southern hemisphere player base?

Do the right thing ZOS. Do the right thing.

Please explain!

Mostly the local laws restrain the users from participation in certain event.

Perhaps try asking your government. They're the ones that setup awful rules and regs which prevent games from outside including you in sweepstakes and prizes half the time :/

Same problem with the million dollar give away. Certain countries, territories, states, etc are excluded due to laws.

Be nice if all of us had a chance to win say, 1 years free subscription or 50k crowns when these competitions arise.

If someone can provide me with the law that says AUS and NZ cannot enter I would be extremely grateful. However since the UK can enter and our laws have many similarities to the UK. I cannot see the problem as to why. Enough of the BS and turdflung excuses. Let us enter!

OMG! I think I finally realise what is going on! ZOS is racist!

The laws aren't actually awful. They're there to protect from abuse. It's sad that some countries can't participate, and upsetting that ZOS wouldn't plan something involving everyone.

The real issue is that ZOS doesn't explicitate it, as they should.

There can be any number of reasons a country or state is excluded. It can be as simple as they have to register or pay a fee or tax and the people running it don't think that's worth doing, or it can be something more complicated - like only companies with an office/factory/store etc. in that country can run promotions.

I'm not familiar with Australian law so I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure someone will be able to tell you.

I'm pretty sure it's not just ZOS arbitrarily discriminating against countries though, otherwise why would some seemingly random US states be left out as well?

Open to legal residents of the 50 United States & D.C. (excluding FL, NY, & RI); Canada (excluding Quebec); Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Iceland; Mexico; Switzerland; or United Kingdom, 18 years or older (or age of majority if older). Residents of Canada must correctly answer a skill testing question.

Quite a few countries are excluded, as well as three states within the United States.

It's probably too much effort to navigate the local laws.

Curious what the reason for Norway being left out is, since it's been included before.

Certain countries? Almost ALL globe can't participate in ZOS give aways.

From my country, I have never had issues to participate in any give aways regardless company, system, prize or place holding the contest, however, almost all the planet can't participate in ZOS stuff.

I'm pretty sure it's not countries laws.

My problem with this exclusion that it excludes so many countries with so many players I think there are more players who are excluded then involved. So why make this marketing events if it is that hard to include the majority of countries.

I know there are extra taxes in many countries, but then please choose smaller rewards where this potential extra money wouldn't be such a problem. I mean I can win crowns from twitch giveaways.

I mean I'm from a not so rich country, but I pay the same money as other europen countries for ESO+ and those rewards sounds amazing but only the richest countries' (and even some of the richest are excluded) citizens are eligible for winning, and that feels bad.

This is the third event where I'm close to an eligible country, but yet so far. Atelast give us some smaller rewards (crowns) then.

As others have stated it's all down to each countries laws and how they handle lotteries or sweepstake style games with rewards.

The restrictions tend to fall on every event ZOS does because of these reasons.

I think it is, but other companies work around them or do things to agree with them. I think for ZOS it's easier to exclude.
Don't take that as fact though, just my assumption on why some companies can do it and ZOS doesn't.

Heh, not sure why Florida is excluded, but I guess it's kinda hilarious a state within the U.S. (as well as two others) are in the same forlorn boat as Australia and some other countries. :expressionless:

Well... I mean if you're playing the game they already have your money. Are you saying being able to join a sweepstake would make you spend more money on the game?

I can't be arsed to look up what law we have that excludes us from this, though.

This is RI's Law - I think Florida is similar except they don't have such a ridiculously low prize threshold (it's $5000 in FL and NY)
"Any person, firm, or corporation proposing to engage in any game, contest, or other promotion or advertising scheme or plan in which a retail establishment offers the opportunity to receive gifts, prizes, or gratuities, as determined by chance, in order to promote its retail business, where the total announced value of the prizes offered to the general public is in excess of five hundred dollars ($500), must file a statement with the secretary of state."

The filing fee is like $150. Basically what it comes down to is most companies (Not just ZOS) can't be arsed to jump through the hoops to allow the contest - especially when the fee is 1/4 of the prize... I've pretty much given up on being able to participate in any kind of contest.

I remember seeing articles that the game was also pulled from shelves in Australia by retailers. I kinda get why ZOS wouldn't cater to you. Even if it made it back to shelves, clearly your country is a trouble spot for the game.
