Opened my explorer pack maps, these take up *way* too much space

loniedavidub17_ESO
I redeemed my Explorer Pack and it came with a dozen or so maps. These take up one inventory slot each, and the compressed bundle of them that arrives in the mail cannot be deposited in the bank.

So...my bank was already full, now I need to either buy more slots or delete the maps?

For now I'll just make a mule alt for them, but seriously, why are these even inventory items at all?

Can the treasure maps be switched to Lorebook items so that we can reference them without wasting inventory slots on them? Same thing with racial motifs (I'd really like to see the whole story in order at some point) but that's another post...

Me too, ditched them in the bank. 20-25 slots vs a few chests, I'll take the slots ^^

Yup its why you only take the ones you are actually going to go find right then and there. Put the others in the bank.
  • Falcons_fanb14a_ESO
But yes, bag space is tight. I've upgraded to 80 slots and constantly have that maxxed lol.

Just wait until you start stockpiling crafting items. I'm up to 4 bank alts now for just my one main character. And I've been buying bag, bank, and horse carrying capacity upgrades every chance I get. The real problem is that the game has thousands of unique items and bags and banks that only hold 60 at a time by default.

Imperial pack and beta you get pets that take up even more slots too. Super lame inventory system.
  • loniedavidub17_ESO
My bank is full, too, Falcons, that's the problem. The maps take up about 30-40% of my bank space, not just my bag.

I just made an alt to hang on to them, but that's not really a good solution for this.

O.o I do a lot of crafting, but haven't gotten high enough level that this has become an issue. I really miss the collectibles bank system from GW2 -- all crafting mats went into a separate bank where you could store a few hundred of each unique mat. It really took the frustration out of inventory management and let me get back to playing the game.

You can upgrade your bag space... pay at a bag merchant, you can also upgrade your bank space... lastly... the maps do disappear as you use them, they need to be on your character when you find the treasure... but they are worth it. Would have been nice if they make a single inventory item... like a "Maps" binder with each map as a page.. I could live with that.

That's a good idea, too. I can carry 100 iron ingots, or a single treasure map in one slot. Mmmm...hmm.

In the old ESO games they'd just make the weight = 0; that system made a lot more sense, though I think the slot system is easier to work with. A good combination of both systems would be to just mark certain items so that they don't count against inventory slots (maps, pets/minis, etc...)

I personally am having a hard time dealing with the fact that my starter character has no extra bank space because I can't afford it. Now my bank is going to have a mass of slots taken up by maps that I got from the explorer pack. This is quite annoying. And I also don't want to have an Alt for maps....that seems like a waste.

Why did you take them all out of their containers?
My main char carries the 4 containers and i only take maps out one by one when i actually need them. Much less of a hassle that way.

You had to open the ones for the areas you can't reach yet? Common sense guys, c'mon. Use your maps for the area you're in. Find the treasure, map disgards. Simple. Winner!

I actually didn't know that by taking them all out that it was going to actually take up inventory space :/ The containers should come with a warning lol. I had imagined something different I suppose.

It's not common sense until you experience something.....I've now experienced it and know better. It just doesn't seem like something that would normally take up space. I've played thousands of games in my time and cannot remember a single game where maps took up space like that.

At first I tried to deposit the bundles in the bank unopened, but they can't go into the bank without opening them. So I opened them, expecting maybe 2-3 maps each, but got many more. At that point it was too many to carry around, and I didn't want to be toting a dozen maps + 3 more map bundles around, taking up my scarce inventory space. So I just popped them all and transferred them to my alt.

I don't always feel like treasure hunting. Sometimes I want to quest, sometimes I want to run dungeons, etc etc. Just "pop the maps for you current zone" doesn't quite cut it because those still take up a *lot* of space for something that I'm not even working on.

Making them lore, making them special items that don't use up slots, or adding the map binder (similar to the key ring from earlier ES games) would all be great solutions to this.

Some of the comments have been a bit defensive of the game, so just to clarify, I'm not bitching at ZO. I don't expect them to foresee every frustration that can happen in their game, and having to create an alt for extra space isn't the end of the world. I'm merely highlighting an area of the game that is less than ideal :-D

Yeah, I was surprised there was no pet tab somewhere either so my ones are currently sitting in the mail untouched.

Also Long term, I hope they add separate crafting storage as currently the storage system is pretty poor with all the crafting mats in-game.

Despite what Xzibit may say, you can not put a container holding items in side of another container that holds items, so you can store while you store.

That said, you probably should be able to with the CE maps, its just a general rule they put in to prevent abuse, Im sure, Ive kept all 3 of the map packs in my inventory, I take the maps out one at a time when I get to that zone. Its 3 spots, I have 99 right now with horse upgrades, that's plenty.

My bank vault also has about 20 free spots, with all the damn pets and useless trophies Im keeping for some reason. And Im working actively on 3 crafting skills.

I dont understand the complaints about storage in this game. Limiting in the way that they have is going to help the economy down the road. Otherwise items that used to be important become trivial. I got rid of all the rawhide in my bank, if you listen to the lvl 10-15 area you'd think that stuff is gold. Wouldnt be so very soon if everyone just hoarded the crap from lower levels onward.

How in the world do you take them out one by one? Wouldn't opening the container give you all the maps inside?

On a similar note.. can we make these Bind on Account, rather then bind on pickup. so we can use the other faction maps on alts. and store in bank... thanks
