What exactly does Bastion do (especially pertaining to Murkmire shield nerfs)?

Does it increase shield size? If so, will it be pointless to put points into it come murkmire since they’re capped at 40% health?

The cap was increased to 50% btw, but basically yes unless you dont have enough max mag to reach cap or a tank might use it for certain shields. and i believe bastion will still affect the psijic shield and the shield from Red CP and certain sets.

If your magicka is at least 20% higher than your health (eg: 20k health, 24k magicka), then you'll hit cap with Hardened Ward or Dampen Magic. If your magicka is at least 15% higher than your health (eg: 20k health, 23k magicka), then you'll hit cap with Conjured Ward, Empowered Ward, Annulment, or Harness Magicka.

If your magicka/health ratio is any higher than that (almost all sorcs), Bastion is useless. You'd need to be set up where your magicka and health are roughly the same before Bastion would start to have any noticeable effect.

I've tried a few builds ready for nerfmire, and found that with the amount of magica lost to get resists/impen/health, I'm struggling to hit the 50% cap even with bastion.
So still useful as is, imho.

I assume PvP? I’m talking specifically about a sorc vMA build.

For anything half resembling a typical magicka DD build we will get nothing from Bastion. The amount of magiacka required to hit the health cap is so much lower than what we typically stack.

Understand this does not mean Bastion is worthless. It is worthwhile for really bad magicka build and stam/tank builds.

This was essentially a PvE nerf as it affected PvP very little. My Hardened Ward shields me for a mere 2k less in PvP in Cyro than what I get on live. For PvE it is cut to 1/3.

I do not think this is intentional, but merely happened due to Zos not thinking through means to deal with shields. Especially means they have already implemented successfully in game for other skills.

Pets will still take damage in VMA, so you probably won't switch to Healing Ward ... so you're right to be dubious; it's hard to see the point of Bastion.

It’s still going to be the easiest class to pull through vMA because of pets.

How would these changes affect a health-based pve tank build (templar shield for example, or brands of imperium)?

The only wards that are capped are annulment and conjured. All other ward ought to be increased by the cp node, as per usual.

I thought they changed this to pets not taking damage in dungeons and trials?

No, as you can see in the PTS video they posted today, the guy spends more time resummoning the perma-dying pets than actually doing vMA.

You necroed a thread with an off topic reply. Judging by the date they're talking about the old Bastion CP perk which boosted Damage shield strength. Current one in CP 2.0 is a slottable 15% boost to your damage shields and damage you do to targets with a damage shield.
