Can't use my 30 days without a subscription?

So, apparently I need to pay for a subscription to play even though buying the game was supposed to give me 30 days access? Why is that? I'm not even sure I want to play it after a month. If I put in my credit card info, can i cancel before I get charged for the second month if I decide I don't want to play after the first 30 days? This seems ridiculous.

the credit card details is just so they can test and make sure that the card is real, theyonly charge a $1 to your card, till the end of the 30 days(according to other posts on this topic)
your account page should look something like this.8uxbl0ymdzyb.jpg

My 30 days is already down to 27 and I won't be charged till may 4th.
so you arn't actually paying for the 30 days they just want to setup your payment method and won't be charging you till the free 30 days is up.
Also why would you buy a game with a monthly subscription, if you don't intend on playing beyond the free 30 days?

Next month I'll be out of the country for 12 days, seems a waste to pay for half a month. I understand what they want me to do, I just don't know why they want me to do it. I don't like that there's no single month charge option, because I'm not at home often and don't want to pay for long periods of time I won't be able to play. Having to set up a subscription to play and cancel it when I can't/don't feel like it seems tedious.

I understand the business standpoint. It's just bad customer service though, something you'd expect from shadier companies, "30 days free! Cancel anytime!*" (*anytime being before the first payment) in hopes of people forgetting isn't a new concept in business, but it's not a friendly one.

I like the game and I want to play, so I'll subscribe for now and cancel before the first payment, and hope in the future there are more payment options for people like me who don't want a continuous subscription plan.

    Negative, they charged me instantly.

I know this because I tried using my paypal account which has nothing in it with the intention of putting money in it next week. Used my CC and worked which I was then curious and called them to see if the transaction went through and was not pending, and it had cleared, the whole amount.

Not that I am fussed, but that's the normal way of things on how it works. You are not suppose to be billed until your 30 days free ends.

It should show as pending in your bank account, which is a hold on funds for a couple of days so they know your credit card is valid, but it shouldn't actually charge you until your 30 days are up.

They don't only charge a dollar, the authorization hold is the full 14.99. However, it will be dropped after a few hours to a few days, depending on the bank your card comes from.

As far as people using game time cards or other such methods...to be honest I'm not sure how it works in those cases, as I haven't seen any answers (official or otherwise) to this particular issue.

well I used a pre-paid Visa card and i haven't been charged a sent and i paid for mine 5 days ago. So if the were going to charge me, it would have cleared by now if it needed 3 days to clear or what ever.

I am glad to hear they do not charge you until the time comes. I use my bank visa and I will not have the funds for another two weeks. I plan out my money very carefully and this throws a wrench in it.

I cant even add a subscription, the billing section is not present on my account page .....

What if when we bought the game and 30 days of play time, we only intended to play for those 30 days, that we paid for?

Looks like we were tricked again with game time cards... Can't we demand that option too? If I bought from their store with a credit card, doesn't literally mean I will pay a sub. with a credit card. That doesn't go like that.

Turns out I didn't add my proper game key yet to my account, only the key for headstart :3

As for everyone worrying about paying: if you cancel your sub before your free 30 days end you don't pay anything ....

Well, I bought they game knowing it came with 30 days, so I wouldn't call it free. I paid for it, I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.
Also, I'm worried if I cancel the subscription before the first charge, I won't be able to even use the full 30 days, since you can't play without a subscription set up. I guess I'll only have 29 days then.

I've been very dissapointed by the game play so far. My plan was to give em a month to get out the kinks but not pay more unless it works out. I don't even play daily now. But instead of being pro they set up there account billing like some cheesy internet scam company instead of a good business. This only turns me off zenimax more. Seems they are ruining my favorite series of games.
