ZOS response to shipping embargo - "You ordered a physical copy , its your problem."

This is unacceptable from a company that expects me to pay them every month for the next untold number of years. There is a reason that seasoned MMO houses do not embargo their games , going gold does not share the same meaning as a standard title. 90% of us who ordered the physical Imperial Edition already had a newer version of the game on our PCs than is on the disk anyway.....
You cant undo the embargo at this point obviously , but you still have 21 hours to extend the deadline. We bought your (frequently arriving broken apparently) statue and book for a premium and are being punished.
Remember ZOS team , those of us who spent our hard earned nickles on your cheap toys are going to be the same people that can save your game by word of mouth alone in six months when you hit the inevitable wall that every MMO in the history of MMOs has hit. Someone should go and get your financial annalist out from under the giant pile of money Skyrim deposited in Bethesda's coffers and have them run the numbers on how much money you will loose if even 10% of the people who got shafted by the shipping embargo refuse to activate their accounts.
Do the right thing even if it means admitting you were wrong. You placed and embargo that didn't need to be in place, so you extend the deadline until Tuesday or you could loose a healthy chunk of your first line of defense when the active accounts numbers inevitably begin to drop by the tens of thousands.
Blizzard doesn't have an annual income higher than some small nation states because they do what ever they want, its because they change to meet the needs of their ever evolving customer base.

What are you talking about with an embargo? If there is an embargo, embargo's are usually set by governements. Kind of confused by this topic and what you are actually referring to.5

Saerydoth✭✭✭✭Collector's editions of ALL games have a limited supply, and are first come first serve. If you order from an online retailer, then you're just putting your name on the list for it.
I ordered the imperial edition from Amazon on the day it was announced, and I got mine yesterday. And nothing was broken, everything was in pristine condition.2 -
No he is right, we need to speak up and get this fixed. I ordered my 30 Janurary, but because of the embargo from shipping early, Amazon didn't start processing some orders till Friday. Other MMOs allow shipping a day or two before so that the physical copy arrives on launch date.
I ordered my copy almost as soon as it was announced, but won't get my physical copy till Monday. Even had the overnight delievery. I don't know what happened between Amazon (other online stores) and ZoS, but really all most of us need is another day or two extension. That way we can play through sunday and get our copies after.3 -
Thing that bugs me, is in other threads people are asking for an extension, but don't post in these specific threads asking for an extension.0

I feel for you guys but I learned a few times how much of a pain physical copies are after a few MMOs specifically expansion launch parties for WoW when I saw a few guys not get copies of their games because Gamestop had just ran out. Honestly a short term proverbial bone Zenimax could throw you guys why they get everything sorted is give you the keys you need to download and play why they sort out getting you your hard copy items.0 -
Yeah the problem is if you ordered the physical copy you so need to speak to the person you ordered it from and that is not zenimax or this message forum.
You and no one else decided to use that vendor and as such its up to you and no one else to handle the issue you have with your chosen vendor.
Unfortunately that also means if you chose a specific shipping method then you have to deal with that too.....Zenimax made the game and box....but its up to the person you chose to buy it from to provide you with it....and if they shipped it....it literally then becomes up to the shipping company to get it to you.
Its harsh how that is....but its the price you pay for the convenience.
So like people are having trouble with amazon....thus they ordered from amazon...its not up to zenimax to magically fix the issue.
Its all on amazon....in this case as a patron of amazon though...you could suggest they at least get you some form of compensation for making you wait and breaking their agreement....such as getting you a digital copy.

I can't speak for other retailers...I've used Amazon for this and other games I've gotten in the recent past. I don't think there is an "embargo". I think they ship it as soon as they are able to. I was able to get release day shipping for both the ESO imperial edition and the Reaper of Souls collector's edition. Guess what? Both shipped the day before release day, and I got them both on the release day.
This isn't a Zenimax thing. ALL retailers do this with newly released products, from whatever company. Now that said, I think it would be a nice goodwill gesture on the part of Zenimax, if they extend early acces until Tuesday, for the people that weren't fortunate enough to get overnight shipping for release day delivery.Edited by Saerydoth on April 5, 2014 5:25PM1 -
InfernoRaven✭✭^ Exactly. Zenimax in this capacity is just distribution they distributed the game and the retailers are required to get that game to the customers who ordered it. People are hyped about the digital age where they can order everything from their computer but people tend to overlook the advantages of classic Brick and Mortar shops they deal with you with a smile on their face and it is them you yell at when things don't live up to the agreements they set. That is why you don't see anyone on here complaining after ordering from GameStop, Play n' Trade or most physical shops. Also competition is lower by ordering from a brick and mortar shop than online think about it. Amazon is a global company that spans everyone on this planet who wants the collectors edition retail you had to compete with every single one of them who chose convenience of getting it delivered to their doorstep. Of course orders keep coming in so Amazon cannot get an exact number to give to Zenimax to get collectors boxes. so Amazon order X Amount and says sorry to those who don't get it when numbers exceed expectations. Gamestop however can handle expectations because they deal with a smaller number there are 5 gamestops in my city of a few thousand of that thousand say only 2 percent wanted the game divided between 5 gamestops the numbers are so low they can fill that demand. Digital Copies are another safe bet you can never run out of a data file. Why do you think steam is so successful? Any game, Any Time, No Wait.0

Zenimax has a finite amount of Imperial Edition Physical Copies and the Pre-Orders exceeded their supply. As a result many people had their orders canceled. It is Amazon's fault for not alerting people to the finite supply. But some people took it as Zenimax fault for only releasing a finite amount of collectors editions to retailers.0

Midgardian✭✭✭I ordered mine from Amazon on Jan 30. It is now near me, but says it won't get here until Monday. And guess what? I don't care. Those that are complaining about that are ridiculous: do something else for one day.
To those who don't think they are getting the CE at all anymore because of the issue, that's something understandable to be mad at. But it's Amazon's fault.1 -

They should be dealing with Customer Service on Amazon's page, sure voicing your frustrations is soothing but it is futile in some terms. If you want an simple fix to this problem go to Amazon, get a refund, but digital imperial edition and play. THAT or go through Amazon to see if you can get your Physical Copy. Since Zenimax doesn't own Amazon I am afraid they cannot do anything.0

Rylanor✭✭I'm amazed that they both can't keep each other informed of accurate figures with this zippy little email thing we have now, and that Zenimax doesn't get enough info to make the physical things ordered. I can see how that wouldn't work for last minute orders, but still, there must be a way to organise it without messing it up every time.If at first you don't succeed, keep trying. And again. An embargo is when one entity (Zenimax) restricts distribution (the retailers) of a product or service. Those of you who ordered late and got orders pushed back or canceled has an entirely different issue.
Zenimax had an embargo in place that restricted ALL retailers from shipping prior to 12pm est 4/3/14. Embargo's are often placed upon games so that the publisher is legally protected in the event their product ships early and damages the company in some way. MMO developers generaly only have media embargo's, meaning media outlets can write editorials on a title but must not release it until a specified date. To embargo a title at retail means a large percentage of your customers will not have access to the game on day one since shipping is a variable industry.
We have early release codes already , so they know we already paid for the game.

Do you live in the USA? which retailer, because the two largest shippers in the US are Amazon and Gamestop , both of which have stated that they were not allowed to ship prior to 4/3/14 due to embargo instructions by Zenimax.
This isn't a matter of debate , its a fact that Zenimax needs to address appropriately.

I agree they should help you out, how ever any one that has played mmos before should know better than to order a physical copy from any brick and mortar store, or even an online retailer unless it comes directly from the company that makes it..

I know right, how DARE people want the physical bonuses of a Collector's Edition. Those fools. And how DARE people expect that the supplier and the distributor that they choose to work with actually work together to sell the correct number of copies and ensure that customers who get screwed over by their mistake actually get taken care of?
If Amazon over-sold, they needed to tell Zenimax. If Zenimax under-supplied, Amazon needed to know a while ago. And here's the real kicker - Amazon and the other suppliers can't do ANYTHING to help people other than shrug their shoulders and say "at least we didn't charge your card until it shipped, so if it never ships, that's good, right?" Zenimax has the ability to hook people up with digital pre-orders and be a go-between. It is THEIR product and THEIR future customer revenue on the line. If they couldn't find distributors who were going to provide a good experience and sell the correct number of copies, they should have never done a physical edition in the first place.1 -

Imryll✭✭✭✭✭This is one of the reasons why I like to order games from our local Gamestop. You know it will be there on release day without overnight shipping charges. And if we had had an issue, there would have been an actual person to talk to. Online retailers may offer special deals, but if you want local service, you need to support it.
We paid in full when we pre-ordered, but weren't required to. Unless you want retailers sharing business information about how much you put down and whether you cancelled the your pre-order with other companies, Zenimax has no way of knowing who among those who haven't yet input their registration codes actually has paid in full--or even intends to pay for the game, as opposed to pre-ordering to enjoy early access and then canceling the pre-order.
I sympathize with the frustration of any victims of retailers having overestimated numbers of orders that would be canceled and therefore not having the boxes to fulfill their commitment, but that's a retailer issue not a Zenimax issue.Edited by Imryll on April 5, 2014 11:00PM1 -
selisa86✭✭I agree that Zenimax should extend the deadline. When a grace period is given in order to enter a code, the duration of the grace period should be active until the code can actually be entered. Otherwise, why the hell is there even a grace period in the first place?
My next suggestion will not help in the matter at hand, but I think it would be a good idea for game companies to stop offering the traditional "box set" collector's edition for MMOs. They could, instead, sell the digital copy with the option to add on physical collector's items, like lore books, figurines, etc. at an additional cost, but the shipping would not be an issue as the game itself would be digital.
