Sony finally allowed it. Microsoft already announced it in the past, so basically it’s now up to ZOS if they want to take advantage of this and merge the servers. I for one would love to crossplay with Xbox as a ps4 player, however I’d only support crossplay with PC if that meant it was possible to port from console to Pc at the same time.

Thoughts everyone?

A lot of work for little reward. I don't believe the servers, evidently struggling under their standard load, would tolerate this well at all.

It is unlikely to mean someone can port from console to PC. That also may not be a Zos issue but the console restrictions as I doubt they want to make it easy to leave their service.

No reason for Zos to have consoles playing together but not PC unless console population gets that low.

Of course it would be a great disadvantage to consoles to compete with PC for many factors even before add-ons are considered.

Basically, I do not see it happening, nor any event to even test it.

I'd love for there to be cross play since pretty much all my friends are on either xbox or pc. Don't know if the servers could handle it, but an event to test it sounds like a good idea.

Your eso account is bound to the specific eso account you made at launch on console. Not your psn/gamertag. This would allow porting if cross platform.

As for your other points, they could simply just do crossplay with Xbox one, then those aren’t factors.

Sounds way too complicated (ie too much work), for this dev team.

I hope so! I'd love to be able to use my PC account on my PS4... not sure if that could work, but it would be nice.

I thought about this when I heard of Sony's change of heart. But, I think it would be too difficult for eso to implement now due to all the duplicate characters there would be

I actually just realized another few reasons why this may not work.

You would all of a sudden have like 3 times the:
    1. Player population/density (many already complain about the lag when lots of players are grouped together)
    2. Well established trading guilds competing for the same limited number of traders
    3. The amount of goods on the market (current markets would crash before adjusting to the surge of excess supply)
    4. Queue time for Dungeon Finder
    5. Amount of spam/trolling in Zone Chat

Some of these could be fixed. Others, easier said than done. It would be a huge adjustment for both players AND developers.

Would it be worth the effort? Well no one can say for sure.. But people will speculate anyway.

How is it supposed to work? Aren't identical Gamertags and character names going to be a problem? They probably could add the name of the platform to the Gamertag but I don't know how ZOS could make it work on character names.

It isn't happening anytime soon. Sony made clear to other game developers that the crossplay deal pertains to Fortnite, and Fortnite only. That makes sense, because that game is so huge that it has become bigger than any one platform, and Sony had to play ball or risk losing their share of the revenue that a game that huge generates (380 million in the month of March alone). Epic could walk away from the PS4 and still have a huge revenue stream; other game companies don't have that power right now.

Considering I started on PC and they made it very clear then things would always be separate. And then the above...I also think people are taking one games example to mean every game is going to offer it.

I believe they are open to beta testing it only at this time but this game can’t run separately let alone mixed together.

Probably the biggest issue would be people using the same character names on different platforms. Can't merge those two characters together without forcing one of them to change their name.

They’d just have to reset everyone’s name’s at start of the merge.

Funny you mention that. I am way better at PVP in ESO with a keyboard/mouse than I am with a controller. I started with a controller first, as well. Once you have the hang of keyboard/mouse, you're vastly superior in terms of movement and action speed. I can run circles around a controller user now.

    That wouldn’t go over well

And really is it necessary to rub with other platforms it’s not like the population is in need of it this game is very populated compared to other mmos I play dcuo for one

I think the bigger issue is that consoles already have their own megaservers. As does PC/Mac. They would need to do a significant server merge, and that's not even getting into the challenges of updates rolling out to consoles at different rates than PCs thanks to how console update services work.

Nothing about how this game is set up suggests this is feasible without a tremendous amount of work that, frankly, I doubt ZOS is interested in. And I can't blame them; there's not a whole lot of reward for that much work.

If the player base ever got low I could see Xbox and ps4 becoming cross platform but I never see either console being crossed with pc.

I play on PC and PS4 so it would be cool to merge my friends lists, especially if they implemented mod support like Skyrim or Fallout 4. None of those things will happen, but I would be pleased if they did.

    Will never happen
    1) addins on pc would make it an unfair balance
    2) widescpread code changes would be required. That costs .
