Why can't we hide each individual armor piece (like hats)?

With all the fluff that is in the game (ie. tatoos/skins/etc...) it would seem to make sense that they would allow you to hide each piece or armor and not just hats so people could display such things as they wanted...no?

Because a bunch of crazy naked people running around in combat isn't immersive. Now, if NPCs in previous TES games had done so, sure. But, even with magic shields and other magical nonsense, people wear clothes and armor in Tamriel. Who knows why? They just do.

You can, of course, remove your armor and fight that way - it's probably a viable way to clear some of the zones at max level, given how easy the overworld content seems to be. Then, your pathetic foes will see your tattoos and other assorted bodily adornments in all their glory as they're punched to death.

maybe because then we'd have even more people asking for difficult-to-code things, like when they want to specifically hide only the "hip flaps" section or the "crotch-flaps" section of their Legs armor, even though those parts aren't coded separately. lots of people just don't understand exactly what they're asking for, so i suspect the devs have to regard all of us with a "give them an inch" mentality.

the Outfit System was meant to hold us off longer than this, i suspect. adding a "naked" option (instead of an un-Outfitted slot defaulting to equipped armor as it does now) sounds reasonable to me to accomplish, but i don't really know anything and that would require lots of people to be both passionate and specific. it's a rare combination ;)

...I don't know...and maybe it is just me...but I don't see why they would sell all these tatoos and stuff when you pretty much have to cover it up with armor.

Because why should they spend time coding this for no extra profit??

    But as I said before:
The most reasonable thing we can expect...
...is for them to sell "invisible armor" motiv pages in the crown store.

I mean, the suits in charge certainly won't send a code-jockey to spend their paid time programming the hide function for all outfit slots without wanting to see some profit, right?

But selling people the option... that would appeal to their shriveled greedy little hearts, right? :p;)

As for the lore... well, I already said it. "Invisible Armor". Enchanting your sturdy armor with an invisibility spell, to lure your foe into a false sense of security...
I mean, look at this guy:
    Sai_Sahan.png
So maybe someday they might do that, and give us "invisible armor" motiv pages in crown crates... or if they feel generous, perhaps even as "armor style unlock" much like the weapon style packs we are getting nowadays...

*sighs* I wish I could hide being a vamp. I'd pay good money for it.

Anyway, I wish we had the option to at least hide shoulders. Some of them are just huge and ugly.

It would be nice to at least be able to hide shoulder and hip flaps or whatever they're called.
  • Tonestar34
I actually asked a similar question a few weeks back. I agree I'd like the option to un cover up the shoulders. Someone from Zenimax actually replied to the post! Its something they are considering.

But to be able to hide gloves and shoulders isnt such a huge ask. Maybe chest pieces at a stretch, or at least more "vest"/sleeveless styles to set in outfits wouldnt go amiss in my opinion.

I know we shouldn't make comparisons across games (but I'm going to haha), but in WoW I can hide things like shoulders and tabards and so on but still have them equipped to create a slightly more personalised outfit.

On that note, it would be nice to be able to represent a guild with their name below yours without having to equip a tabard, or at least hide it visually like helms so it doesnt clash with a chosen outfit

We have seen requests from our players to have the option to hide specific equipment slot visuals, and it is something we'd like to offer in the future.

Yeah, hiding shoulders is almost a necessity on male draenei. Don't get me wrong; I wouldn't be opposed to more slots having a hidden option, particularly shoulders and gloves, but typically it ends up in people asking, "if we can hide X, why not Y?" (like this thread). Slippery slope, inch/mile, etc. The simple answer is that it's arbitrary and, depending on how much time/resources have to be devoted to implementing it, it might not be worth the cost. Helms and cloaks (if present) are the most common slots to have a hidden option because 1) people spend lots of time customizing faces and 2) cloaks can have awful clipping issues. Or, sometimes, helmets are oversized and you get a bobblehead effect. Beyond those, I don't expect any hidden armor options in any MMO I play.

My initial comment was more in response to the desire to show off full-body tattoos, thus hiding chest/leg armor.

I agree totally. Thats why I'm interested in seeing more sleeveless chest-pieces as I like my hard hitting melee chars to show off their intentionally massive arms and their tattoos too.

Agree with a few comments I've seen saying what's the point in tattoos etc if we are never really able to show them off (As I heavily tattooed person in reality, I agree there haha), but also agree that we cant just hide everything or there would be naked chaos!

If there's already the bathing towel costume, then why not allow outfits with the same coverage? Every slot should have a "hide" option. Barefoot Khajiits/Argonians, bare-chested barbarians, invisible pauldrons, there's a reason for each one. We believe that's the easiest way to implement, too.

The one step further I'd like is to have the belt-dependent stuff (tassets etc.) as part of the waist slot. If it hangs from the belt, why is it counted as chest? Leave the existing styles the way they are, if you must, but make anything new work logically.

    +1 for hide outfit pieces

mostly for the gods damned ugly shoulders that levitate, fail to attach to anything, threaten to get stuck in doorways unless you enter sideways

but also for the gods awful butt/crotch/hip flaps which 9/10 are both aesthetically and functionally displeasing

though I suppose some hip flaps do at least mitigate the way weapons float beside a slim-hipped toon due to a failure in the avatar modelling and equipment model hanging points

Zos has stated in these forums they are looking into it. Of course I expect they do not want characters to be running around in their undies so I expect it will stop short of that extreme but should end up permitting hiding other armor pieces.

To be honest, I have no idea why anyone would be whining about immersion. There's a farmable CLANNFEAR HEAD currently, so it's not like people adventuring around in their underwear is any less likely than someone adventuring around in, say, A GIANT FREAKING CLANNFEAR HEAD.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't want people hero-ing around in their underwear because "it'll break immersion", you need to build a bridge and get over yourself.
