This is exciting! The Summerset cinematic foreshadows a flying griffin mount!
Great News! Awesome stuff ZOS.

No, they're not. The cinematic means nothing regarding in-game content. The simple truth is the game engine isn't designed to handle flight and the Devs have no intention of making it so. We're stuck on the ground.
when they introduce an animal like that they for sure are gonna make them a mount and for seconds they surely mean to make them able to fly at some point(or else they wouldnt add them in the first place). it took skyrim forever to add where we could somewhat fly dragons but they still added it and it was teased just like this. so yes we will eventually get flying mounts just suck it up and deal with it.
No. No. Ffs, please stop! No!

We do not need flying mounts. The game is not designed for that and should never become that.
Only dragon-riding fanboys from Skyrim and total idiots would think that this is a good idea!
Also, nowhere in the Summerset trailers does it "foreshadow" a frickin' mount. Of any sort! It's just showing off new creatures.
Gryphons are cool, yes. And I'd love to have a flightless gryphon mount. Hell, maybe even one that glides like the dragon pet. But not an actually flying mount. Get that completely asinine concept out of your head, because most players who have played ESO since launch don't want that to happen, it should never happen, the game can't handle it and already has enough problems, and ZOS won't make it happen anyways.
Calm down - hehe my wife loves it when I say that.
Don’t want or like flying mounts? Here’s a really easy and quick fix.
Don’t use one.
You’re welcome.
Please don't strain yourself. The concept of not needing flying mounts in the game might be difficult to grasp, but it can be achieved. If you really, really, really, really need a flying mount that badly, try this idea on for size.
An even quicker and easier fix; players who desperately need flying mounts to compensate for something can go to a game that already has them implemented. No need to change ESO or fight the opinions of the players who don't want to ruin the game.
Super fast and easy.
There is an exit here somewhere, I'm sure you can find it.
Farewell, and you're welcome.
Oh dear! You need a big warm fuzzy wuzzy hug.

Exactly.
Flying mounts are not needed in ESO, let alone even wanted by a majority of the playerbase.
Flying mounts would just break ESO, which is, and has been, already on shaky ground.

BS. You don't speak for any majority whatsoever. Hell a good portion of the fanbase are skyrim fanboys and you think they don't want flying mounts? No, folks like you are the minority, you're just louder and participate in the forums more.
Class reps are just like our politicians. They promise mountains made of gold for us, but in the end, whenever they can they try to push their own agenda.

I do enjoy flying enemies. But I really hope they will never implement flying mounts.
Except nobody is "crying and complaining." You would get hit be endless loading screens if they were to add "proper" flying mounts. Invisible walls, too small zones...I think it’s a great move. Here come the skies!
I don’t understand the crying and complaining over flying mounts.
If you don’t like them, don’t use them.
Please don't be the same as everyone else ZOS.
Before some bring in GW2 - that game is dying for many reasons. Not only it's the F2P model, but they also implemented a massive power creep and mounts (a flying one as well) as means to further monetize the game.
DO NOT copy that game, it will be the downfall of this one.

I am not crying about flying mounts.
I am merely saying they will not come to ESO.
The game was not setup for it and the effort to retro that is more than it is worth.
So in the end, no flying mounts will come to ESO. Maybe mounts that look like they are hovering.
It really is that simple.

The only reason GW2 added them was because most of their long term, loyal fan base (myself included) left on or before the time they destroyed the game with the HoT expac where you needed a raid just to complete the zone. Before that, they neutered the warrior class and made everything in AvA conditions, conditions and more conditions.

Not even WoW is designed with flying in mind; not really.
You need flying enemies, ground enemies that can knock you off your mount, flying needs to have a resource with physics so you're not just floating indefinitely, and the world needs to have the verticality to justify flying.
Actually, Dragons Prophet approached the build-in-verticality by allowing you to ride your dragon ONLY about 50 feet vertically...where you would hit a vertical limit. There were ways (and I discovered most of them) to circumvent those limits...allowing me to soar 1000s of feet high. But even with the limit, there were sooooo many boundry holes where you would just fall to your death/get stuck everywhere. Very ill-conceived feature mechanics
(I have videos of my flights in that game, I'll have to load a couple on YouTube)
Revelation Online is built for verticality. But having it makes the game a bit less fun...as everyone can fly everywhere at any time. There is actually a "feature" where you can execute the "moving so fast you fly" movement famous in Chinese movies...but you can harness it to basically "fly" on a sloping path a LONG distance if you are good at it...but it is slow travel compared to flying/riding. I prefer that mode of flying since it takes skill.
ArcheAge allows flying but only as a Gliding feature. So regardless what you fly (kite/pegasus/wings/etc.) you are flying on a slope and you have a time limit (standard is 3 minutes but some extra special mounts give you 5 minutes) before you have to land or fall to your death. This feature is a bit restrictive but it also demands practice to get the timing down. Here is a link to a video I made in ArcheAge Closed Beta...our guild planted over 5,000 trees just for fun!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Irie1icaHI

Flying mounts won't ever be added; the Devs have said as much.
But there's still a way to add a griffin mount... Make something like a Wounded Griffin, where its lost the ability to fly, due to an old injury. Or they could make a new wingless species of griffin (known in mythology as a Keythong or Alce).
