Vampire questions

I was wondering if getting the vampire skill line is a good thing to have as a magicka user or not. I notice they only have 2 active abilities and a few passives so I'm not sure how well they would add to a magicka user or not. Also how well would it work for say a DK tank? I noticed that one of the active abilities is a life steal and the other is a major damage reduction but stops your ability to be healed.

It's awesome. My DK tank is a vamp and although I do not use the abilities of the vamp line on my DK tank. My magplar I use the drain, it's awesome, with some good damage behind it you'll enjoy watching the health drain out of your enemy while screaming in agony. The mist form is a magicka based dodge roll kinda. You can be locked down and this can get you out of the problem and into a better environmental condition to break line of sight so you can't be targeted. One of the main reasons vamp is great is the undeath passive that grants 33% damage reduction at 50% health. The drawback you take 25% more fire damage. From a tank pov the fire is not a problem. If you PvP the oils are really bad for a vampire. A tank can handle getting out of them but too much and it's a serious problem lol. Oh and a fun passive I love is dark stalker, which removes the sneak speed penalty. Extremely helpful passive for sneaking and imo for my Nightblades is necessary.

For PvE, especially for MagDK, extra magicka recovery is amazing. In trial situations you can remove Equilibrium and sustain quite fine just with orbs. You won't use vamp abilities at all, there is no reason really.
For PvP, Mist Form is amazing gtfo skill. Extra fire damage can be painful, but you wont feel it when you dont get hit, lol.

OK I'm confused. So for a DK tank its not that great but for a magicka DK it is? The magicka class I was thinking of using it on was a magicka sorc or magicka NB. Would it be good on those or should I just stick to non-vampire skills?

You do not take 33% less damage once you drop below 50% HP. You take up to 33% based on your missing HP. So it's not immediately 33% but rather it starts at 1% and climbs to 33% reduction as your HP falls lower. So it's not until your HP is almost gone that you're receiving 33% mitigation. Similar to how execute abilities function. This is a common misconception about vampires and it makes vampires seem stronger than they actually are.

Yes this passive is helpful for some builds (i.e. tanky specs) but the drawbacks of increased fire damage (which comes from almost every magicka user and their destro staff) and increased damage from dawnbreakers are too much to justify taking the curse as a DPS unless you want the skills like mist form, bat ultimate, or maybe the stealth bonus, or you want to roleplay. If you're already squishy, vampire is not really going to make you any less so.
