Damage Shields - Increase cost or cast time?

Damage Shield changes

Good changes
  • You can now deal a Critical Strike against an enemy with a damage shield.
  • Poisons and Weapon Enchantments can now proc even if the damage done by the Light Attack, Heavy Attack, or Weapon Ability is fully absorbed by a damage shield.
Neutral changes
  • Your Spell and Physical Resistance now reduces incoming damage before it is applied to your damage shield.
Bad changes
  • Conjured Ward/Annulment: This ability and its morphs now have a 1-second cast time, previously an instant cast.
  • Increased the duration of the damage shield for Annulment, Conjured Ward and the Hardened Ward morph to 9 seconds from 6 seconds.
  • Empowered Ward (Conjured Ward morph): Increased the duration of the damage shield to 14 seconds from 9 seconds.

New Damage Shield changes

Make Penetration affect the damage shields! That is, Physical and Spell Penetration increase damage against the damage shield! If the neutral change above go to the game, Penetration can affect Resistance and Damage Shield at the same time!
  • 662 Physical/Spell Penetration = +1% damage against the damage shield.

Instead of increasing cast time, the cost should be increased, just as it did with Healing Ritual.
  • Annulment costs have been increased to 7290 Magicka from 4590 Magicka. Then they calculate the conversion to Conjured Ward and Empowered Ward.

    Either way, it won't be worth slotting anymore IMO. Already found something "superior" and wonder why I had never done it before...

    Reroll?

    I would be ok with them just making it so you can only cast it once every second. Instant cast but can't spam. Same effect, but removes shield spamming.

    But seriously, I'm looking to make mag build without any shields in PvP. DK and templar don't seem too hard, but for sorc...not quite there yet. Haven't really thought much of the trade-offs, CP distribution, and what the main defense would be to replace shields. Definitely going to lose damage though...

    Magblade without shields is very doable in PvP. My magblade has them slotted on her backbar, but I rarely use them. Losing them if this patch makes it live (because lol no I won't be slotting a shield with a one-second cast time) will be an inconvenience rather than a game-breaker. Cloak and Blur is often sufficient for avoiding damage, plus Siphon and Swallow Soul can keep you going in a fight as you take damage, and you can still backbar a resto and have Healing Ward ready to go for emergencies. But magblades are arguably the exception, not the rule.
