I really don't believe those numbers. If we were really 11 million players then the zones would be pretty crowded. I only find at most 6 people concurrently.

Only 6 players? We frequent very different zones then.

    Platform?

    Zones?

Time of day relative to the server time zone?

11 million over three formats and two servers for each with popular zones having multiple created instances.
Maybe more servers if their figures include the Japanese servers.

PC. NA. Summerset or Wayrest in primetime. Do I see a fair few people? Yes. But not nearly enough to be constrewed as 'a million'.

Then again, not only is this game instanced so such estimates on both sides is kind of meaningless. That said? I dont believe those numbers either. Accounts opened.

3 platforms and 2 servers. When I was on Xbox One most I saw was like 50ish maybe even 100. Time of day would have been around 6pm-10pm. So dividing by 3, let's say 3 million people, divide by 1/2 for 2 servers that should be 1.5 million people. divide by 10 provinces let's say 100 000 people. Then let's be fair divide by 100 zones. That should still be about 1000 people. Since I am being generous with 100 people that I see (usually less) that is 10 times less I see.

While I only do PvE I would still think there would be more people in the cities. I swear there are only a few hundred playing at any time or that there is actually more servers than just the US and Europe server.

I am not saying I am correct at all, I just wondering how come I don't see all these people if there are "millions" of people playing.

Maybe it's all the bot accounts. I don't know. Like I said, where is everyone?

You would think Zenimax would be banning more bots then. This way they can buy more accounts.

I didn't even finish the video but remember that some things, like housing and some main quest content, is instanced for only a single player. Not that it's a huge number, one wouldn't think, but if you factor in groups doing dungeons or guilds meeting at houses, it's reasonable to assume there's a not-insignificant amount of players that wouldn't typically be seen in overland settings.

In any of the major cities, I am seeing more than 50 people at a time. Xbox NA.
Even the starter towns have at least 50 people dueling in primetime, plus that many or more over by the crafting areas, and another good chunk running around doing dolmens. Alinor... Alinor is bonkers most of the time, but then so is Elden Root. I've had my game crash on me multiple times in those. No telling how many just stay in permadungeons that they lift off from some random places in the world. I have no idea of numbers, but I'm seeing plenty of other players.

Game is on 3 platforms with 2 regions so that divides your chances of seeing someone by 6. Everyone isn't playing all the time so the servers aren't going to have 1.5 million people concurrently. Even though the servers are mega servers there are still instances in zones like craglorn. If one craglorn zone reaches capacity you'll be dropped into another different instance. So if you invited your friend you wouldn't see each other until you teleported to your friend and you would join them in their instance.

People really need to learn the difference between players(active?) and copies sold, it's like if someone came and said hey GTA 5 has like 80+ million players, while probably a high % of the players who bought those copies stopped playing shortly after release.

And in the case of ESO while I don't think it's dying or anything like that , I gotta be honest and say that I saw way more people in cities, maps, basically everywhere in the period shortly after the 1 Tamriel update compared to what I see now.

Yesterday I logged in and experienced Login Queue on EU/PC server for the first time ever. So I suppose either they have implemented new queue logic, or there are more people than ever or both

Look at the cities shortly after any major DLC or chapter. I doubt they have less people

It’s collies some. Not active players. Also, that’s not 1 million copies sold in a month. Far from it. More like they sold another million since last time they made a similar announcement.

You see more people around after every update. Then when they've played through any new content they drift away until the next update, leaving a pretty constant (and probably slightly growing if anything rather than falling) number of people between the updates. Notwithstanding the hysteria that immediately follows the initial PTS patch notes detailing the base game changes accompanying an update, my hunch is that we'll see exactly the same pattern this time around.

Such changes only ever affect in any significant way the diehard PvPers and the diehard competitive PvEers, and then only those among them whose established main is the most directly affected class, and then again only those unwilling to adapt. Even if a class is severely nerfed, then many PvPers for example will see that as an opportunity to slaughter those characters, not as an inevitable sacrifice on their part.

No matter whether there are millions playing a game or only hundreds, those particular players are only ever a small minority of the total. The rest either adapt to the changes, ignore them, or not having read the forum or the patch notes don't even know about them - as well as those whose playstyles mean they don't even notice the changes if and when they happen.

    Definitely more players imo.

Remember they said people often hop in/out and sales directly effect this game. If it goes on sale it boosts number for a month or two before the MMO hoppers jump ship to new shiny. Was there a sale this/last month?

As said before while I don't like the cast time change it won't effect most of these style of players.

Not even close...there is more fudge in those numbers than a famous Amos brownie. At least SE had the stones to show hard numbers and how the data was collected recently. Not even Blizzard will do that anymore.

Well strategically, they should continuously observe the real money price of in game gold and determine the average leadtime for a given farmer to generate the amount of gold that covers the cost of the game.

Determining that amount of time they then could put in place a system that doesnt ban accounts for botting until they are slightly above their breakeven point. That way they continue to buy accounts and bot because it is continually worthwhile to do so.

Of course that would only exacerbate the numbers that zos likes showcase and provide a dataset that shows steady purchasing of the game over several quarters which looks fantastic to investors.

But I'm sure instead they do the right thing and ban them as soon as they are certain they're bots

You do know that despite one giant megaserver, there are still different regional built in servers and phases and regions, right?

There can be a milion players in let's say rawl'kha. But there are 10000 versions of rawl'kha on the mega server each containing a portion of players.

Have you ever invited someone into a group while both of you were in the same zone but invisible to each other despite there being no quest phasing?

That's how eso handles and spreads population.
