The new changes to major evasion, which can be attained by Nightblades, any class in medium armor, any class running DW, hist bark, gossamer or spectres eye, is an indirect monumental nerf to the Templar class as a whole in PvP. I like the change as is, it’s great for both PvP and PvE, however against Templar’s our main spammable is going to be mitigated by 25% and 30% against wardens who elect for minor evasion. I’m not alone in my concerns, both on the Templar discord and the Templar feedback thread this seems to be the #1 issue. I feel the need to make an individual post because I do not want this to get overshadowed by the various other balance changes. Many Templars I’ve talked to have considered dropping jabs/sweeps as a whole if changes aren’t made.

The changes to targeting are major, but this needs addressing. Most of the solutions seem to be making the extra damage to the closest target in fact immune to such aoe damage reduction, which is what I believe to be the most logical.

Have people tested with updated builds? The increased survivability/utility from patch notes looks like templars will be able to spec into more damage, slightly alleviating this issue.

That said, I agree with your suggestion. Just want to know ^

For one, survivability was nerfed, especially for stamplar. The damage itself is noticeably lower on PTS against a user with shuffle up, even with adjusted builds.

So what what you are telling me is now templars have to actually make a choice between higher damage single target abilities and a high damage AOE that heals the user? I vote we take sweeps + jabs away from the templar all together, obviously the skill is trash now and templars are better off without it.

Let's start by clearing the air here. Sweeps/Jabs is not a trash spammable. Clunky? Yes. But it still is one of the better spammables in the game.

I'm led to believe you don't understand how templar works, so I'll lay out why that suggestion would be worse for the game.
Templar's damage is heavily influenced through Burning Light passive, which is only proc'd by using Aedric Spear skills.
For Stamina Templar these skills have a chance to proc it: Biting Jabs, Binding Javelin
For Magicka Templars, any skill in the line can proc it as they can use any of the Aedric Spear skills to proc it. (Yes, I know, some of them are memes right now.)

Templars can't really chose to use a high damage single target as their spammable since there are no spammables besides Javelin/Sweeps that proc Burning Light. In other words, no Templar would not be better off without Jabs/Sweeps.

This evasion change was a pretty big blow to Templar damage that wasn't entirely necessary to nerf in the first place.

Perhaps changing the primary damage that is done by the skill to closest/primary targets to not be affected by the Evasion AoE mitigation but the secondary damage component on targets further away gets mitigated by Evasion?

Templars have had to make that choice ever since destro became meta. The evasion change will pretty much force Templars to go single target damage only, so... literally the opposite of what you said will happen.

Make it require a target to cast but continue to do AoE damage like crystal blast, reflective light, dragon leap, growing swarm, lotus fan, etc.

Then it wouldn't need calls for an exemption because it's considered single target.

That doesn’t solve the issue. Dragon leap, for example, is single target, but is still considered AOE. Jabs would likely fall under the same category.

They need to undo the shuffle change is that simple! Nobody asked for that stupid "buff" :s I don't mind taking full dmg from those sweeps...
