Saw some PTS footage and the shield cast time makes sense to me.

The only shields that got the cast time were conjured ward and annulment. Steadfast Ward didn't receive this cast time. Why you might ask?

I think that they are trying to fix two complaints with shields in one go.

1st complaint is that shield stacking is too strong. Well now you have 1-2 preemptive shields to activate before damage hits, and 1 panics shield through steadfast ward.

2nd complain is that because you damage shields in the order they were applied; people would cast hardened ward -> dampen magicka -> healing ward and you wouldn't be able to stop the heal from healing ward because of the previous two.

I think that they left healing ward as an instant cast to force it to be used 1st, which means people are more likely to prevent its healing.

This would also explain why the new blackrose healing staff has a 3 second major vitality on a 6 second shield. They wanted to make the non-healing morph more appealing.

Not trying to argue about the balance of the new patch, just trying to suggest what might be there line of thinking.

You do realize Healing Ward is going to be removed pretty much instantly right? Then if you make the mistake of trying to cast a shield with a 1 second cast time (which is actually 2 seconds and most likely will take even longer thanks to their bad servers) you're going to get interrupted and bodybagged right?
Unless you are willing to be a mindless sycophant and/or coddle others due to their insecurities prepare to be harrased by the Orwellian enforcers on these forums. You should also try to refrain from using any words more complex than those used by a small child due to the fact that said enforcers have made it clear that their vocabulary pool is aenemic.

Fair enough, I feel like they should be uninterruptible, similar to soul assault.

They could still technically do it. would just have to do a 4 shield rotation. Also I wonder if this goes live if iceheart and hardening glyph will be more appealing.

This does make sense. (I am not either saying it is a great change).

However it is a funny instinct some people have to instantly (before they even test things) write a post that their class has been 'destroyed'.

Shield stacking was always an annoyance because you could stack very large amounts of uncritable HP using the same resource pool you use for DPS. Shortening their duration didn´t kill shields (which ppl claimed it would), I don´t think this will. Shields are also not straight up nerfed, since you can make use of armor when using them now.

It does mean that a sorc will have to defend differently. And maybe consider that jumping into melee combat in full light armor wasn´t really the intention to begin with.

Sorcerers have resto staff skills, ultis, enchantments like hardening, dark exchange, blood magic passive, pet, power surge, psijic... there are options, some people just insist on not even trying them before posting 10 forum threads...

Or, the seven heavens forbid, put some points / set bonuses into defense...

Honestly I am more worried about the people who run blackrose healing staff with Ward Ally and then use Light's Champion. 0-100 not to mention the new set that gives minor vitality and mending when you activate a damage shield. I think people can adapt, just going to need healing in there kit. Would also explain the cost reduction for twilight matriarch.

People keep mentioning that healing ward is going to get nuked. Healing ward is going to be an emergency buffer so that u have that extra 2 seconds to move away via streak/cloak/shade/ or time to pop a burst heal. The idea is to get LA away from face tanking with wards to using wards as a buffer and relocating to avoid/get out of range of damage. Your normal caster approach to mmo's basically. The shield stacking and soaking up damage more effectively than normal armor thing has always been odd from a design perspective.

Healing Ward didn't get nerfed because healers provide it.

ZOS was pretty clear in the last class rep meeting they wanted to nerf damage shields because they make healers useless.

Lo and behold, the only major damage shield used by Magicka DDs that doesn't get nerfed is the one that Healers provide...

First, no one was stacking three shields in the first place, and if they were, they weren't killing anything anyway.

The pro-Healing Ward/Ward Ally argument is equally asinine, as you shouldn't have to forfeit other weapon lines to get what should be available in class.

This goes for the heal, and the shield.

If anything, they just made healers even more useless. By making resto shield the only instant cast one, LA wearers will now have to backbar resto staff for survivability. And if all the DPS in your party have resto backbar, what need is there for a dedicated healer?

How about they change the physical defense/magical defense mundus stone to provide crit resistance? This could be an alternative.

Also the only ranged taunt people use is crushing shock, I haventseen anyone use venom arrow, please inform me if anyone does becuase generally PI is much more appealing.

This doesn't line up with the game though. stamina templars (kinda) , wardens, and dragonknights have to go into 2h (DW for steel tornado, but thats worse now with AoE reduction changes)to have an execute. Why not you go into resto for a shield?
