Everything he said was spot on. Nothing needed to be toned down. I don't think you understand how bad these changes are in the absolute slightest14 -

He makes awesome guides!
Has a deeper understanding of builds and the way they affect combat.
But I wouldn't trust him to make balance decisions when those decisions affect the classes he enjoys the most.

bpmachete✭✭✭I called it that if they kept crying about other classes dodge rolling they would hang them selves... if they want to implement this make it a .5 second cast time and also make it so cast time abilities in general don't snare you, like they did with uppercut and jabs.
This does still provide some counter play to a shield stacker (.5 cast time) honestly some players could be unkillable one v one if all they did was heavy attack resto and shield stack.
Also people are freking out, if they remove the self snares from cast time abilities, a .5 interrupt won't be that bad, and if you do get interrupted, you can use the other light armor shield for example and you won't be able to be interrupted with the CC immunity. Also looks like healing ward will still be instacast.
1 second way to long, .5 still allows the weave, and remove the slow down to speed on all cast time abilities is a must.Edited by bpmachete on September 18, 2018 2:54PM0 -

They’ll either shut down what’s left or increase subscription rates to make up for the lost revenue. Just trying to help you get a clue on how these things work. You have a lot of PvE casuals that aren’t on these forums who will logon one day and their main toon won’t work. Many will go so far as to see the new cast time as a bug. I am not convinced this is a bad change. A casting time for damage shields does not seem inappropriate. 1 second may be a bit long but that is what pts is for, to test it out.Edited by Skwor on September 18, 2018 3:01PM0 -

This really isn't any different. Hopefully, It will pass faster than some others.
Sorcs had it in pvp for a over year or more after Hist and DB brought us the heavy armor stam meta. Sorc was the slowest filled bounty until wardens came out.

✭✭✭✭The magicka based damage shield cast time doesn't affect just Sorcerer, but all magicka classes that use them. I would actually say that classes that lack mobility, like DK and Templar, are affected in an even worse way. Extended duration doesn't actually balance things out in either PvE or PvP, since rarely would a shield expire before being depleted by incoming damage. Also having your own resistance count towards incoming damage makes no sense. IRL it would be something like your bumper taking less damage when slightly hitting the car in front because you have 2 mm instead of 1 mm sheet metal on your car.Beta tester since February 2014, played ESO-TU October 2015 - August 2022, currently on an extended break

I think Alcast is pretty damn good at the game, IMO. I find his candid breakdown of the game interesting. And yes who cares about Dark Souls this is an ESO forum, however, if you have ever played the game you would know it can teach you ONE big lesson that transfers to all RPG-games, and that's patience.5 -

✭✭✭1. I don't mind shields themselves getting some sort of nerf or change. It *IS* silly that my clothy mag sorc can basically tank a boss just like a full heavy plate tank.
***HOWEVER***
Adding cast time is *NOT* the answer. He is 100% right. Cast times feel bad in this game. its like going from 100 to 0 in a second during a rotation <And I am talking about all cast time based skills>. It feels clunky and doesn't really support the actiony style combat system.
A simple change could have the same effect but allow us to instant cast our shields when we hit those moments.
1. Add a spell lockout for 1 second. You cast a shield and boom for 1 second you can't recast. Simple. Same effect but doesn't hurt combat flow.
2. This one a guildy talked about: Each cast increases the mana cost of the spell <Similar to sorc blink>. 1st cast = base cost - 2nd cast X2 - 3rd X3 - etc. So in theory you can spam, but only so much.
Speaking of cast time.
Can we get a dark deal revamp to remove that stupid cast time? I wouldn't mind instant cast with cost but over time it grants HP/Stats. Would be fun to fit it into a rotation and /shocker help sustain out.
