The correct way to balance nightblades in PvE.

Increase the cost reduction from light / medium armor to 3% per piece of armor slotted, up from 2%, resulting in an additional 5 to 7% cost reduction to their abilities depending on how many light / medium armor pieces are slotted.

How does this solve the problem? Nightblades are currently capable of sustaining a full light attack rotation with little or no investment at all in most situations in endgame situations. The added sustain is irrelevant to them, as they can't invest in increased damage anyway.

For all the other specs, this will make it easier to sustain rotations with a higher focus on light attacks, resulting in an overall damage increase. This might also reenable builds that became unsustainable with Morrowind, such as the Maelstrom daggers setups, among many others.

It also has the benefit of raising the floor since inexperienced players are more likely to make mistakes resulting in wasting a lot of resources.

While I'd promote the idea, I doubt this is going to happen. We screamed hard for buffs to light and medium armor to make them more relevant in pvp,and we got them to look at equalising sustain at least. I guess we'll see on Monday how it goes. If the old arena weapons get a 1 pc bonus back it might make them more relevant either way.

Sorry, I don't see how this balances NB healers or tanks. Many people seem to forget those roles are also available to NB. (or any class for that matter)

To a degree, they technically can - by swapping to bi-stat blue food (most use tri-stat with regen nowadays) and getting a bump to max stat, which would translate to damage. So, if on mNB, I got sustain boost now, I'd drop Witchmother's and health-enchanted chest piece, and again would come out on top.

Apparently, according to Murkmire review, there will be some boosts to Light and Medium Armour and sustain balance for all classes. Let's see how they will do it. I hope all classes can hold a light attack rotation next patch as I really want to play a stamdk dps without having to heavy attack. 1 Piece bonuses are most likely coming back as well so definitely will give MSA dual wield a try.

@Liofa , that's like balm on my soul; I'm in pretty much same spot, with stamDK main and obligatory heavy attack rotation. And vMA axe & dagger gathering dust and waiting for better days. Here's hoping that rumours are all true.

You don't have to use a heavy attack rotation on a stamDK. Light attack rotation with Dubious or Artaeum Takeaway Broth is totally viable (probably better), just like it is on a stamsorc or stamplar. Swap the mainhand Disease enchant for Absorb Stamina if sustain is still an issue. This is the primary difference between NBs and everyone else: both magblades and stamblades can sustain a LA rotation in-raid with blue food, everyone else has to use Witchmother's/Clockwork or Dubious/Artaeum.

And to a prior comment, the vMA DW rotation is totally sustainable. I've parsed with it a hundred times on a stamsorc recently. It's just that Maelstrom DW aren't that great after all the nerfs to give up a monster set or a second 5-piece.

And all of the good magblades I know raid with blue food. Some even use green food to cheese certain fights where incoming damage is low.

@LiquidPony , I've tried once with rotation hinted here at forums, and for the life of me, I cannot sustain Cruel Flurry rotation (or most with spammables for that matter) on stamDK without using regen glyphs, and that's with Dubious and absorb stamina on main hand (and FoO in rotation, so I have one GCD free of charge, and stamina cost reduction from VO). I don't know if stamsorc has better sustain, but I'm running out even on 3mil dummy. I suppose I might give it another go to see what I could possibly have missed.

Probably just a question of ulti timing.

I'm no stamDK expert but the way I parse with it is to get all of my DoTs running, then drop Standard (so I get the advantage of the full stam return from the ulti), and I drop a Dawnbreaker as soon as it's up on the 3m skeleton. I won't say it's "easy" to sustain, I'm usually pretty low on stam at the end, but it's definitely doable with Dubious/Artaeum. About the same as a stamsorc honestly.

That's without VO ... 5 x Relequen, 5 x Advancing Yokeda, 2 x Selene. Jewelry is 2 x Infused, 1 x Bloodthirsty. Using Crushing Weapon as the spammable. Honestly I think the Rapid Strikes rotation is easier to sustain (it's ~115 cheaper than Crushing Weapon), it's just not as strong even with Maelstrom DW. With VO it should be really easy to sustain on a 3m skeleton.

*Edit: And actually I realized that the last time I tested Maelstrom DW on a stamDK, I made a stupid mistake. Running 3 x Agility, 2 x Selene, 5 x Relequen, 2 x Maelstrom DW I just hit 48k on the 3mil which is actually a tad better than I normally hit with the Crushing Weapon rotation. And I had something like 50% of my stamina left at the end of the parse. I'd bet someone who's a little more familiar with the stamDK could push that higher.

@LiquidPony , it's precisely what I'm doing - potion spent halfway, Standard dropped on second rotation after everything is running and to make room for returned stamina, then Dawnbreaker as soon as ready... I'm not a redguard, that might be it, lack of Adrenaline Rush may be the difference. Are you trying on redguard, perchance?

    @John_Falstaff yeah, Redguard. I haven't used a non-Redguard Stam DPS since Morrowind.

@LiquidPony , hrm, that would be the issue then. >.< Adrenaline Rush amounts to ~316 stamina regen, just shy of two regen glyphs on jewelry (or closer to a glyph and a half with medium armor bonuses). I can sustain with two glyphs just fine, but I don't think it makes light attack rotation viable if I have to sacrifice three hundred weapon damage for it. ^^

I understand that redguard is meta. But 'just switch to redguard' isn't a solution to stamina problems. I do care about the race I picked. ^^

It is what it is. Khajiit hasn't really been viable for LA builds since Morrowind. I know how you feel ... I was not happy about it but I switched my OG Khajiit stamblade to Redguard back around HotR and it was a massive DPS increase.

Maybe a stamblade could pull off Khajiit with regen food and/or an Absorb Stamina glyph, but I'm not sure it's worth it. The Redguard +10% stam pool bonus is just about as good as the Khajiit +8% crit bonus as far as pure DPS goes. Unfortunately Khajiit have one racial passive that is totally useless for PvE combat while all of the Redguard passives are good.

"Just switch to Redguard" actually *is* the solution to stamina sustain problems. It's corny but it works. Hopefully they'll take a look at racial passives sometime this decade and tune it up a bit. The problem is finding a way to tune up Khajiit without making them even more ridiculous for glass cannon/gank PvP builds.
