Mounts in ESO

I've always been a fan of the mounts in ESO, riding a wolf or bear is a really cool component that they've added. However, why do we have to buy virtually all the mounts in ESO? Sure you're given the starter mounts, then 3 more that you can buy with gold, but all the other mounts you have to buy with Crowns. It'd be nice to be able to get different mounts from Trials/Vet Dungeons. Personally, i'd love different sized mounts in ESO, kind of like WoW does. In this game, all the mounts are basically the same size when it comes down to it, and I think it'd be awesome to have giant dwemer construct mounts and huge beasts drop from trials and bosses. It'd add a whole new end game system and more incentive to get to the end game, rather than just for gear. Mounts x3 the size of a person would be awesome! What're your opinions on this? It'd be awesome to get mount drops that are rare and large moutns!

My main rides a horse. Personally the mounts do not mean much to me. It seems like they're far more a part of a side game with the crown store than they are ESO.
I would probably get a lot more excited about them if they were earned.

As far as the size, I remember the mammoths and how they were used to intentionally obstruct everything.

I've gotten all my mounts as Crown Crates. Granted, I am paying the $15 / month fee to support the game and have a crafting bag, but because of it, I have also gotten quite a few mounts, including the Wild Hunt Senche this month.

Having played lots of MMOs over the years, I get that people don't want to pay a monthly fee... but, let's face it, game development in top tier systems is expensive. All the early games required a $15 a month subscription just to login. That model has changed because everyone demanded Free To Play games. And because everyone demanded it, the micro transaction economy began. So, now, you have multiple choices (instead of to play or not to play). You can not pay and play a great game (Win). You can pay a monthly subscription and get some expanded benefits (Win). You can pay to play and pay for fancy looking gear and toys (Win, if you can do it).

You can't have it both ways. There is no game that can hand out all of the cool toys and not charge you anything in return. Choose your accepted method of support and enjoy the game.

Oh, and have a great day!

Only 1 mount I ever wanted. Shadow Rider Senche mount.
It was locked behind two walls. Pay wall for crowns for crown crates, and less than 1% RNG chances.
After spending some 50,000 crowns trying to get it, I basically quit ESO.
All because of ZOS's practice of dangling a carrot over their customer bases head, laughing and raking in the cash as their loyal customers can't get what they want.

because convincing players to pay for cosmetics, such as mounts, is the core business model.

It would be cool if we could buy for example bears in Orsinium, Lions in Hammerfell/Elswyer for gold

I've always thought they should sell a standard (boring) version of each racial mount in areas that make sense.

Especially in some of the DLC and Expansion areas where the stables literally only have those kinds of mounts.

I got a wolf mount for watching a stream and we also have chances to get them for free from crates.

But yes, like they’ve offered skins, pets and personalities for clearly the most challenging achievements for dlc dungeons (no death, HM and speed runs) as well as skins and a chance for polymorphism for clearing the newer trials on the most difficult settings, so it makes sense to have a mount reward.

Zos, next DLC dungeon pack or arena/trial use a mount or chande or a mount for clearing the content in HM or guaranteed to get it for the no death, speed run HM achievements.

    Good idea OP.

It would be cool if they had some as a reward. Either as a dungeon/trial HM reward or as parts like the kitten and the dwemer theodolite.

Because you don't really need more mounts than the game provides. ZOS keeps making these mounts to make some cash.

Nope, ty... For example, Elden Root undaunted camp is already slow to load during peak hours because of all those people standing there and waiting in queue, or constantly passing by on their mounts. Also it will be harder to find NPCs in crowded areas if a couple players will fill it with their mega mounts.. PvPvers will probably also complain about increased lag..

The system in its current condition seems fine to me. I've never had a need to pay crowns for mounts. I just maintain my ESO+ sub and I have so many of them from free crown crates (including scarlet senche) or bought with gems that I don't know when to ride all of them... Or, for example, my spouse opened those 2 free Wild Hunt crates and got panther and guar mounts one after another... Idk, maybe we are just very lucky.

It depends on the business model. If everyone is willing to pay a subscription - ideally one based on 2018 costs and not 1999 subscription levels - then sure enough everything can be included in the game at a gold price in the game. However, all the time there are people who feel that they're entitled to play a game without a subscription then they will have to be induced to contribute to the commercial cost of providing their entertainment by way of a cash shop, and unless people are willing to countenance "Pay to Win" then the items in the cash shop will have to be purely cosmetic items such as mounts and tattoos etc. That's not to say there aren't plenty of non-subscribers who are willing or even keen in principle to contribute to the funding of the game in ways other than subscribing, merely that they have to be offered the right things for them to do so in practice.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the present system. The mounts differ only in appearance, their stats are the same and they're even held on an account-wide basis. They're not "Pay to Win", and you only need one of each if you feel that you must have it. Those who buy them are contributing to the game, those who don't want them have no reason to buy them. Occasionally I even get one by way of a free crown crate. What's not to like about the system?
