Question About Trading

Last time I played I learned that in order to post things to an auction house, you first had to join a trading guild. Guilds had auction houses/npcs only in specific towns/regions that you had to travel to and only players in that guild could see those auctions. Furthermore said guilds had a limit of 500 players and occupied one of your 5 player guild slots. Is this still how trading works in the game to this day?

Pretty much, except that guilds can on a weekly basis bid on and possibly win "traders" located in a particular location that any player in the game can go to and purchase stuff from. So you need to be in such a guild to sell, but if the guild wins a trader that week, everyone can buy. Prior to that change (and still now, if a guild doesn't win a trader), only guild members can purchase from a guild's store - though they can do so from any banker in the game (no need to visit a specific location).

Thanks for the detailed response smacx250. I guess, I won't be giving ESO another go then.

This is not correct. Anyone can browse your guild store, not just members of the guild.

If you are in the guild yourself, you can browse the store from any bank as well.

There are thousands of trading guilds with guild traders, it's easy enough to join one. Some have weekly sales requirements you need to meet, but this usually isn't too much unless they are big trading guilds with traders in places like Craglorn or Rawl'kha for instance. Some require a weekly donation, and most offer incentives such as raffles to get more money for trader bids. I've been with the same trading guild for a long time now and they've only lost their trader twice. I'm not great at farming, but if I don't meet the weekly requirement I just donate some money to the guild bank.

Some people make millions a week, trading is all they do. But there's an awful lot more to the game now, it might be worthwhile checking it out.

    Yes.

No action houses. Guild traders and trading guilds need to bid on their trading spot each week. Use Tamriel Trade Centre (google it) to find the items you want to buy.
Say NO to Crown Crates. Crown Crates are Loot Boxes. Loot Boxes are gambling. Zenimax makes enough money off us.
ESO+ is part of the "Games as a service" trend. A trend that needs to die. Subscribe only when you need Crowns for DLC.
Say no to "radiant" junk quests replacing proper side content and the dumbing down of our favorite franchises.

    Thousands, you say?
    How many, really?

Easy enough to join, you say?
How do you join a guild?

Some require a weekly donation, you say?
If a donation is a requirement, then in reality, it's a fee.
