Jewelry Crafting Still Broken

I did one legendary master writ to unlock gold dye. it was worth about 390 vouchers (I "lucked" out) cost me over 1k per voucher to craft and every JC writ since then, i have attempted to sell extra writs I got. they are not selling. I mean.. if I price them at like 1 gold per voucher they probably will sell, but the point is.. no one wants those things even after the update.

change to daily writ rewards to not award anything but gold grains was actualy incredibly UNHELPFUL for me. becasue I used to at least get some green, blue and purple grains on my alts. now all I get are those *** pointless trait grains that I have way too many of already, and gold grains are still incredibly rare. so far, doing JC writs daily I have gotten /drumroll 2 . 2 grains. and my alts get nothing.

but fine. legendary jewelry is supposed to be rare. whatever, fine, lets go with it. WHY IS PURPLE AND BLUE JEWELRY SUCH A PAIN, exactly? ALL the upgrade materials for JC are ridiculously more rare than their temper counterparts. why?
    dirty worthless casual.

Yup! I was there for that! And I could go on about how I think 780 levels in a game can easily turn off new players but that isnt the issue at hand. Please share where you get your gold because, believe it or not, maybe 2% of people in this game can come up with that kind of money: I'm sitting on 4 mil and wasn't grinding at 100k per hour?? Not to mention, it would be completely different if it were just 1 character, but to those of us who are actually good at this game and have 1 of each dps class a tank and a healer at least, the build up of finally getting a way to get set items that couldn't usually be found in Gold, such as burning spell weave or silks of the suns rings, necropotence rings, ect, this was going to be a REALLY GOOD THING. Finally all gold jewelry! Gear would finally actually make sense. But this is insane. I'm saying make it easy? I'm saying make it reasonable. The equivalent 40 temps is not reasonable, especially for increase it gives you. I could MAYBE see 20, but anything over that is over the top and unreasonable.

...This is still by far the most intense grind in the game...
...you mean, jewelry crafting stuff is, like, as rare as... precious metals?
    The outrage!
    How dare they!
Why is not not as common as iron or wood!
    Waaaaahhhhh!
    ...
...at least that is what I think when I read that sort of rant...

And considering how many times I read "Oh, noes, Jewelry crafting is gunno ruin the game economy, ZOS don't do it!" before they went ahead and did it... I can see how they thought it prudent as well as immersive to make it a bit on the grindy side...

First of all, I have always been for this system. The fact that you couldn't acquire BSW jewelry in yellow has NEVER made sense to me. This was a very necessary update. Now before you right me off as another whiner, learn your facts. The drop rate of Jewelry ore has, roughly, a 20-25% chance of spawning over a blacksmithing node. So you have a one in 4 chance at best of getting 3-8 dust. Okay sure I'm on board so far. Now you refine it to have a chance of dropping grains. Druegh wax, Rosin, Temps: any of those yellow mats have a 5% of dropping from refining. Grains were assigned the same chance. Okay, sure so this stuff is especially rare. Makes sense. But now, you tell me. That to upgrade a single one of these items, you need 80 of these grains???? ZoS recognized their mistake immediately. I've never seen something in this game fixed so fast as long as I've played it for. So they say, okay, we'll make it only 40........... 40. Let that sink in for minute. That is still insane. Ridiculous. Too far. I have never ranted on forums about anything. Anything, I've only ever asked clarifying questions to better myself at this game. But, I'm sorry, this is just too rare. It's preposterous. This was supposed to be a great thing. Something that finally made sense. And ZoS even recognized how broken it was, but haven't truly fixed it yet. People like you, who are inexperienced and ignorant to the matter and telling people to quit whining without knowing what they're talking about are only delaying a problem from being fixed.

I had about 80 jewelry crafting writ containers, about 20 in each char, and I had about 1500 platinum dust. From 150 refinements I got 3 chromium grains in total, which works out to be a 2% chance, roughly. As for the containers, I had 22 rank 5 containers, 20 rank 3, 22 rank 2, and 22 rank 1. From all of those containers, I got a total of 9 grains. The chromium grain totals, rank 1: 1, rank 2: 0, rank 3: 1, rank 4: 3, rank 5: 4.

I can't guarantee that the odds from the writ containers are accurate; I had a writ quest I started prior to the update, and finished after the update. When I turned in my items, I still received the excess inspiration, and upon completing the current day's quest I did not get the excess inspiration. I took this to mean that the loot table for the pre-patch writ containers carried over their loot tables post-patch, because when I turned in the current day writ quest items, I got a chromium grain. The only thing that makes me believe that these 20 containers might be based on post-patch loot tables is the fact that all the writ containers I opened that contained grains, contained chromium grains.

Ultimately, I think that the most reliable approach is going to be sourcing them from other people and guild traders. It's the only surefire way of accelerating the process, and saving up cash isn't too hard. So, jewelry crafting has daunting odds, but it's not impossible. Also, I'm not really supporting the difficulty here, but Jewelry is special in that you can get bonuses that are sometimes only found on certain armor types, without wearing that type of armor by slotting the set in your jewelry and weapon slots. So, it should be kinda rare, no?

This is one of the first reasonable arguments I have read to this topic. I agree that the best odds of finding grains and platings are indeed from guild traders. But, at least on Xbox, those are going for roughly 80k A PIECE. Saving cash isn't hard sure. For one set on one character. But, as I have previously mentioned, most end game players have a DPS, a Tank, and a Healer at bare minimum. Most have multiple DPS, especially thanks to the relatively recent boost in the Nightblade and decline in the Sorc. The part where this becomes ridiculous is when you want to gold out jewelry for those characters too: characters you have also worked very hard on and want to get to the best they can be. Quite frankly. 320k per piece of jewelry is a little much for me still, but if I only had one set I wanted gold, I would be much less frustrated. Jewelry crafting is broken for end game players with multiple toons. As I mentioned as well, I have absolutely no problem with grinding for Gold Jewelry. Truly, it makes sense. But the problem is that this grind is far too intense to yield the increase that it does first of all, and to truly complete all of your characters.

well the problem is, if you tryin to create legendary jewelry for 14 chars, then of course it feels like a never ending grind.

if you "only" working towards one char, then the grind wont be long, since you yourself stated it takes days, that means in a week or two your char will have 3 legendary jewelry, and the grind stops

dont get me wrong I have 12 chars, if I was to get them all legendary jewelry then it will take the air out of me, but they dont make this game in order for you to fast track to endgame gear on more then 1 char, which they shouldnt either

But if I put three years into a game, I should be able to either have the time or resources to acquire the necessary gear for ALL of my characters, whether by gold or by simply farming. I mean, you get 4 temps to every 1 grain... not even plating but grain.

If you don't have the time, that isn't ZOS's fault. The game isn't designed around how much time YOU have to play, and the resources are there, you just need to invest the time to get them, just like any other crafting skill, it's not like they aren't available.

I agree that there is a bit much required, but you're sounding like you expect the game to cater to you.

That's a fair assumption to make without any context I agree. However, I failed to mention that I play this game at least 6 hours a day and up to 14 if I REALLLLY have nothing to do lol. My frustration is that I do not have the time for this DESPITE how much play. I can't even imagine the horror show for anybody who plays this game even slightly less than I do.

I agree. I spent 1 mill AP to buy purple jewelrys just to get 7 platings out of it. But you can look in the brightside. Back in the dark days we didnt have jewelry crafting. We had to farm everyday just to get the right traits since we didnt have transmutation. Those were the dark times though

I thought they said it would be like doing Blacksmithing or other crafts.

But when I open my other craft tables I have at least the upgrade materials for almost a full set of gear (not gold, but green/blue/purple). When I open my jewel table I can't make 3 pcs of green/blue/purple jewels because I don't have enough upgrade mats or even some trait stones.

Yes, gold or 3 pcs of gold jewels is going to take time, but what about 3pcs of purple? That shouldn't be way more difficult than 3 pcs of purple gear.

    Right, Z?

I have said it before and I'm still convinced about it: the way Jewellery Crafting was set up says "we don't want you to craft jewellery, and we also don't really want you to upgrade jewellery". It's there as a bait, "we promised it, here it is", but it's practically unusable.

So I have been doing crafting dailies every day among my 8 characters I have. Saving my jewelry surveys for the day that they make make jewelry crafting better. I can tell you this... of the hundreds of jewelry surveys that took me all day to do... I was able to upgrade 1 piece of jewelry to gold... just one. I used... hundreds and I mean hundreds of jewelry surveys and have far more platinum ounces than I will ever need. They really should half how much you need to refine to make a plating or more so.

Aquiring purple crafted Jewellery is easy. Since there's too many purple necks around. They even drop really often.

Above that, *should* be hard. I think it's like 1.2 mill gold for 3 jewellery pieces to gold on EU/PC atm. Although I agree it's a little bit steep, it isn't really necessary to have gold jewellery. The difference is minimal.

I don't think anyone is saying it should be easy, or there shouldn't be a grind. I don't think anyone expected that they would immediately be able to gold out all their jewellery. But a lot of people seem to be forgetting the initial grind to level the crafting line even before you tackle getting the materials. Then there is researching - the only way to level this quicker is of course to throw money at the cash shop, which I refuse to do. I've no problem with grinding for something I really want, but this is not like griding XP, where you know if you put enough time and effort in you will go up a level, this is RNG based, it comes down to pure luck, how many raw mats will I have to refine to get one grain to get ten grains to make a temper? Who knows? Since people are pointing out that gold jewellery doesn't offer much of an improvement over purple, then why should it be so much harder than other crafting lines? Would you be happy if you couldn't gold out your other equipment?

I just don't understand why it has to be significantly harder, you can still only get gold trial jewellery by doing Vet trials, for example it's not like that will be devalued. Most people just want to gold out their favorite dropped sets or be able to use crafted jewellery to make it easier to mix and match sets.

I've no problem with it being slightly more difficult than the other crafting skill lines, but it is significantly more grindy and that is putting people off, and I wonder if that's wise given that jewellery crafting is a selling point for Summerset.

So it's not 'whining' and it's not 'gimme now', it's a discussion about whether the system as it is currently works, or if it's off putting for players. Players who have paid for this expansion, I might add.

Jewelry and furniture all take the same resources and a astro amount... 3k stone which takes hours to days depends on
farmers in areas... You to refine to get maybe 5 maybe 6 ... if your lucky dusts you still have to combine 10 to get a plate that means another day or two harvesting for the resources for a single plate....

We need more nodes. many times the farms steal nodes as you reach them.. So many times I have finally found a stone node only to have someone zoom up hit it before I can and they zoom out... The time we spend trying to flip the rubinite to the plat stone is ridiculous only to have the nodes taken..

Many still leave the rubinite or worse yet Cherry pick the plat dust from rubinite. Which leaves you feeling like your working for them clearing the trash so they can cherry pick the re spawn node....

Several level 3 farmers have a speed buff we can not match with rapid move and sprint combined.. very hard to catch the names to report but what do you say this persons moving fast then a level 50 lol! We have seen them zip across the area...
Increase the nodes so farmers will not make the prophet. Make the nodes so All Crafters can easily gather supplies Give us crafter's a chance for once....

We agree the required amount to make anything is ridiculous..

I think now they need to halve the cost of refining platings by 50% to balance it out more, or halve the cost again here's how I look at it:

You can have 7 pieces of leather/silk... that's 56 Gold Wax across those pieces. For 3 Jewlery pieces you need 120 Grains. That's more than Twice as much.

Now, if they lowered it to 60 Grains, it would take roughly an equal amount of time/investment to gold out your Jewlery as it would your Leather. This would be much more balanced.

I understand ZOS intent in slowing the grind, they wanted you to spend as much time per build on Jewlery as you would on Armor instead of plowing through the system and it becoming trivial, but the problem is their costs 100% higher than what they should be and the exact opposite of their intended effect has come true, and currently jewlery is redundant. I've been gathering and upgrading still, but the costs are quite high even when you consider ZOS' intent.

60 grains:56 wax is much more more fair imo.

As it stands now we are spending 100% more time on upgrading Jewelry than we are on our armor. They literally just have to halve the current value and it will be much more logicially balanced. It will still take more investment per piece - but per build the time will be equal.

If the OP is at the extreme end of the spectrum, you're at the extreme end of the other side. No idea why so many people nowadays take a "it has to be either or" approach. I have 5 or 6 of my 15 characters doing daily JC writs, and 3 of them are at max tier. I seem to have an issue with obtaining Zircon (purple quality) grains.

I'm getting about one Chromium grain a day. Fine, whatever. I can most certainly live, quite happily, without all 15 of my characters having legendary jewels. However, I have reached a drought with purples. I am not running vet dungeons 100 times a day to break down purple jewels for mats. It seems I will never really have much better than blues (as far as crafting or upgrading is concerned).

I have plenty of blue and green jewelry coming in, but purple is going to be a problem for me, the way JC currently is set. A year from now I will have plenty of gold plantings laying around, but due to lack of purple mats, they will be useless.

And the following comment is purely observational, and no way scientific: But since the last maintenance I have not gotten one JC survey on any character at any tier. I really do depend on those, and can only imagine how expensive people are selling those for.

I would prefer alternate methods to obtain JC mats, such as possibly hirelings, or even something else I can do. Maybe some kind of daily quest for JC mat rewards- more involved than just "craft me 3 rings..." I don't know, I don't design these things...

TL;DR: I am not too thrilled with the state of JC at this time, also.

Thank you! I was waiting to see someone else mention this. Right after they added the chance for platinun dust to drop with rubidite nodes, I saw a lot of it. However, in the past week, I’ve come across a vary large number of rubidite nodes without any platinum dust in them. At first I thought it was just a statistical anomaly, albiet a large one.

I haven’t witnessed anyone at a rubidite node that left the rubidite, but I’ve seen people running around in the same farming routes where most rubidite nodes have been left while other material nodes are picked clean. Makes me wish they had added jewelry mats as a chance drop during rubidite refinement, rather than mining the same node.

It's difficult for those of us without altitis. Without the alt train rolling it means fewer surveys and rewards from daily writs coming in, not to mention the gold.

I just got my first gold plating last week. I was able to upgrade my first piece of jewelry to purple about 2 weeks ago. I have 2 maxed out jewelry crafters.

Its absurd enough that I dont really bother with it anymore. I'll do the daily writs, I'll store the JC master writs in the bank because there's no way those are getting done, I'll grab the nodes when I find them, but I'm not running on this treadmill.

After working with the jewelry crafting a bit, the only thing of value it adds is re-traiting.

The master writs are still not worth doing.

Upgrading to gold jewelry is so expensive that I won't do that either.

I will craft low level green jewelry for alts though.

I assume the prices for the materials will still decline a bit more, but a dust that you need 40 of being about the same rareness as a tempering allow will keep it pretty cost prohibitive for a long time.

It sort of makes sense, and keeps the jewelry crafting one of the more work intensive professions... again, immersive since the jewellers stuff is not that common as wood or ores or clothier stuff... and I also see it as artificial check & balance to keep things from getting out of hand as so many have feared during the time the skill line had been wanted...

And who knows? They might add something that helps out jewelers in the future someday, much like alchemists can get a bit of extra help if they join the right organization and speak to their bequeather on a daily basis, right...? Though personally I would prefer to see this as a gold sink instead... pay a "prospector" NPC, get a "hireling" worth of jeweller stuff in return. Some days it will be just common stuff, other days something neat... random chance.
