Thanks for the update, but this explanation still doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me (I understand you're just passing it along so not an attack) because the HDR slider in the game doesn't even do anything anymore. It's like the entire HDR system has been disabled and replaced with an incorrect color profile. This seems like a rather extreme solution for some random overly-saturated assets that should just be corrected individually. . . especially when i didn't hear any complaints before.
The game looks bad now. I get that some of us may be used to overly-saturated and some elements may look better from a "less is more" approach, but there are things in the game that just look bad.
Example, the red orbs on my ebon set look like crummy darkened desaturated glitches now, not glowing red orbs. They are so dim and washed out that it seems unnatural they are even casting light.
I tried turning up the color on my TV but that is a poor solution because my other games and media look fine, as do my skill icons but cranking up the sat makes them look terrible.
Just disappointing. I bought a 4K HDR TV and a PS4 Pro mainly to get the most out of this game, and was super happy with the results and now that is all out the window.
I reject this explanation because as stated above, how does this even get released? It's painfully noticeable to anyone with an HDR setup; I can't imagine you are releasing game updates without testing such functionality. Surely someone noticed.

You're not alone. $2,200 in hardware purchases have been negated as far as this game is concerned. Maybe they should make that slider work, and apply it to color intensity...I bought a 4K HDR TV and a PS4 Pro mainly to get the most out of this game, and was super happy with the results and now that is all out the window.

So it looks pretty clear from those shots that the PS4 HDR version WAS more saturated than the PC original (though as I mentioned earlier, you have to take into account the fact that screenshots of PS4 HDR don't translate colour space correctly).
But what they appear to have attempted to do is bring the HDR colour balance on console in line with the PC's standard, non-HDR colour palette, and as you can see from those shots, while the "temperature" or saturation of the colours is more directly comparable, the HDR console version now has a kind of dusty "haze" over it (look how "grey" the character's skin appears).
All this aside, I think the most important point here is a simple one - people LOVED the look of the HDR console versions, and many (like myself) actively maintain a second subscription to play one of them. Whether it's "right" or not (how "right" can you be in a high fantasy game anyway?) doesn't matter - the people are speaking loudly and clearly on this one. We want our colour back

The unintended consequences to the HDR change have nothing to do with the technical implementation of the change. The unintended consequences are people hate the change. Also "We’re continuing to evaluate the changes" is really "We will see how many people are mad and if it is not a lot we will leave it" that is my take on the above statement from the developers. I for one am pretty disappointed. I don't think the HDR has to revert to the way it was before the update. I think adding about 50% of the saturation back would be a great balance. It would make us who liked the more colorful Tamriel we have been in for over a year happy as well as bring the colors closer the what the developers feel the world should be. At least give people an idea of what is being discussed. We have a right to make a decision about continuing to play ESO based on this change since we do pay to play. Silence does not help the situation it just pisses people off.1 -

crjs1✭✭✭✭✭Hopefully we get a slider for colour saturation. Personally for me prior to the patch the colours (especially reds and blues) were too bright and cartoonish in HDR. They now seem to have gone too far the other way.. can we just have a middle ground? Or be able to customise.3 -

Sadly, the patch broke it so *if* they choose to fix it (which is still unknown) it won't happen till September 12th. Given the last official statement of "we are monitoring" I suspect this is intended and staying, in which case my ESO+ on PSN goes bye-bye along with my desire to play on that platform any more

mrs_helheim✭✭Honestly it's not even about it looking pretty for me at this point, it's the fact that it's completely ruining the gameplay aspect. I literally cannot play it due to not being able to see mechanics. Vaa I couldn't tell where the gold circle was on storm atro boss. Anything that's gold, silver, or blueish is so hard for me to see right now. Normally I'd just deal with it, but I can't.1

ForMalacath✭✭✭I'm playing on Xbox X and HDR is buggered for me too, so have just disabled HDR completely on my tv and console while playing the game. Standard colour option is the only way to go for the time being otherwise it looks depressing as hell, Summerset in particular now looks woeful : (

blunned✭✭✭All I can hope is that this issue continues to highlight the general lack of appreciation and attention toward console players from ZOS (which has been slightly improving but is nowhere near acceptable) and leads to a discussion of the many quality of life improvements that are desperately needed on console. With the break to HDR, it’s now not just the UI that feels like it’s from the early 90’s (I’m looking at you lack of search function in the guild trader and lack of a mini-map), the graphics now match. The simplest fix in the short term would be to completely revert the changes initially. I promise you more people have a problem with the visuals in their current state than the very select few who had a problem with the oversaturation.2
