How long can we be AFK?

How long can we be Away From Keyboard? I have diabetes and on bad days I need to go to the bathroom a lot. Since I only do PvE I know it's not an issue it doesn't bother anyone. But I just like to know if I need to keep logging off or can I just be in a safe spot and be AFK. I just like to know what the limit of inactivity is and is there a penalty for doing so?

I just put an rubber band around one of my analogs to hold it down so my pov spins but not my character. Will keep you logged in until the controller times out. I'm sure you can do something similar on pc. Be creative.

If you're in a safe spot, you can go AFK for at least 15 minutes. There is no penalty.......the only thing that happens if you are gone too long is you get kicked back to the character screen.

There's no in-game penalty that I know of, and if you're in solo mainland PVE there's no reason it should bother anyone. Just find a place without any enemies and you're good to go. Since I play a pet having character, when I happen to afk in a spot that respawned a mob, it's happened that my pet kept the mob occupied long enough for me to come back. Thanks, clannfear !

On a side note, if you open your inventory or the crown store the game will give you more time before it logs you off for inactivity.

Lol it works well. Had to run to the store during midyear mayhem and didn't want to go back through the queue. It was still spinning when i got back 30 minutes later. Necessity is the mother of all invention.

20 minutes exactly, unless you crash out to login screen. Or unless the game wants to keep you, Ive come back from afking to find myself still logged in after not being home for 2 hours...

So from 0 minutes to infinity.

It also depends if you've been moved by an asset. I've found places in the world where NPCs walking around in their usual loops can bump me left, then bump me right, ad infinitum.

Generally, if you need to go AFK and it's somewhere dangerous, try dropping into stealth. You should go back into stealth if you have to log back in.

I've accidentally found that, on PC, if using an addon such as Idle Animations, you can be AFK for hours, provided you are in a safe place where you can't get killed.

I've been for +6 hours like that in one of my homes.

Also once in Cyrodiil, in one of the home bases...

In this game the AFK can be really short, sometimes the game sent me to log out after 10 sec and often after 2-3 minutes. Before 5 minutes it becomes annoying and it happened to me only in this mmo.

I noticed that when you log out to the character selection screen the time until you're completly logged out is much short then when you stay logged in on a character. That's unfortunate imho.

Not sure if this still works as its been a while since I tried it, but I used the sit chair emote, it seems while my character was doing an emote it would remain logged in, not sure if it was coincidence or what but it was for over an hour one time.

I have been logged out for inactivity trying to go from the log in screen to the character select screen. This has happened more than once. Now when it seems really laggy, I enter old NES cheat codes while I wait. Have not been logged out while doing that.

I once idled for 4 hours straight and didn't get disconnected. Literally completely AFK... I had time to exercise, walk to the store, take a bath, cook, watch some T.V. and decide T.V. sucks, then I went back and was like "wow, the one day I don't care I'm still logged in!" I tried doing it again later that day and was unsuccessful

Who knows how it works...

It would be really nice if you didn’t get booted when making a new character. Worst ever is spending 25 minutes detailing and adjusting sliders only to learn the name you have chosen is taken. 5 minutes after thinking of a new name, boom. You get kicked and have to start all over again

It varies i've had it dump me out in minutes in busty areas like Auridon, but other quiet areas it can sit in game for 15-20mins.

They should at least give you a save button in character gen like Final fantasy does..

I discovered accidentally that if you escape and select 'log out', but then don't pick either option in the pop-up window, the idle timer doesn't seem to tick; I got distracted and was AFK about twice as long as it normally takes me to get idle-logged, and I was still logged in with the pop-up window waiting for me to pick an option.

Now, if you're not someplace safe, you can die while the game is waiting for you to choose, but it seems to be a viable option otherwise.
