I'm just curious to see if I may in fact be the only one! Everyone I ever talk to mentions the other games as if they're a given. This game is my first Elder Scrolls game, period. I intend to get the others at some point, I feel like I need to catch up now. xD

Ive never played an Elder Scrolls game.

Is it just like solo questing without ever interacting with another person? That just sounds boring to me.

Its a role playing game. It would be similar to conpleting ESO's questlines solo, but Bethesda does a really good job of creating rich worlds with good NPCs that really draw you into the story. The storytelling in the single player games is more in-depth than the questing you'll get in ESO.

Similar to ESO, the more invested you get into your character and your role, the more you'll get out of the experience. If you play ESO,for the player interaction, the single player rpgs might not be to your taste.

Some NPC's will have better AI then some people.

But questwise and exploration wise the single player games are so much better.
If you like to hang out with other people doing dungeons etc, yes ESO is better because the others don't have that.
There is a multiplayer mod for Morrowind and Skyrim in the works though, but i don't know it's current state.

I have been playing a long time, first got into the series with Morrowind ages ago. I got a 360 specifically for Oblivion and upgraded to a nice TV when Skyrim came out. Massive fan of the series personally but I suspect you are not alone to this being the first introduction to the series. A lot of younger players probably got into the series from Skyrim too I would wager.

ESO is literally the only Elder Scrolls game I've ever played...

Not very proud of that fact, but I've never had a computer that could run any decent games on until I got this second hand craptop.

I'd love to play Skyrim... I just can't.

I had played a 'bit' of Skyrim but never finished it. I was mainly having fun creating various mods for it... like being able to summon a group of Amazon warriors, and I even created a summonable Kratos but he was too OP and killed everything before I could get a shot in. Then made the mistake of attacking him out of frustration, which caused me to spend the next five minutes trying to stay alive until his summon time expired. Good times.

I played MAYBE 30 minutes of skyrim and could not get pass the floaty combat. Tried morrowind or oblivion for about 10 minutes, can't remember which one and didn't like it. Avoided eso thinking it would be like the others, finally decided to try it while looking for a current gen dungeons and dragons type game to replace my Dragons Dogma and instantly fell in love with the gameplay/combat and been playing steadily for almost 3years now.

i'd guess that the prior ES players would be at least a little bit bigger than the ES newbies at ESO. I came in around the middle...my first ES was oblivion, liked it so much i played morrowind, and was a bit disappointed (only played it about 3 times or so <g>), probably due mostly to the graphics, then i played skyrim. I eventually downloaded arena & daggerfall also. I finished arena after several tries, but daggerfall is the only one i never finished, gave up after about a half dozen starts, because of it's awful early implementation of a 3D map...

There's some mods out there that make Morrowind look awesome. The trick is choosing stuff that doesn't make it crawl to a stop! But even with just a few things like nicer grasses, trees and general engreenification, better heads, illuminated windows and improved animations it can really look vastly improved.

Oddly enough, after playing modded Morrowind and Oblivion (the latter with FCOM for balancing and assorted graphics improvements) I actually found Skyrim to be the most lacklustre of the three (I know there's more than three, but Daggerfall gave me horrible headaches and I never played Arena nor Redguard) and in some regards ESO improves on it. Too much functionality has been pared away but at least it isn't quite so empty and bleak (except for Cyrodiil, pretty much) and the NPCs aren't the surly, unwashed dullards who populated Skyrim. Not even the ones in Skyrim.

Have you never played any kind of solo RPG or adventure game? O_o

(Also, no, it's not entirely like playing an MMO solo, because - since it's designed to be about a single Hero played by a single player - the game can react more to the things the player does.)

afaik, only Daggerfall and Skyrim had actual spiders. And in Skyrim they could be modded out of the game (plus I found a way to limit the spider spawns in Daggerfall to just 1 or 2 :p )
