Sound just randomly disappears sometimes.

HellHunter

Greetings.

My problem is that I sometimes don't hear sounds(mostly the music stays), without any FPS-drops. I also got a problem with some effects that don't load or just get some wierd colors. I hope someone knows what do to, because it gets pretty annoying.
I run the game at constant 50-70 FPS.

Specs:
Intel i5 750
Asus HD6870
4gb RAM
Soundcard is onboard

Thanks for your attention.

Same problem here, after about an hour npc dialogue is gone and certain sound in the environment is missing. Music will still play.

Only fix is a reboot of client, all the time.. =/

    Got this too.

Fresh install, windows 7 64, i5 2500k (stock), 8gb of RAM, GTX 670, Asus Xonar DS, nothing running in the background at all but over long TESO sessions the sound will start randomly vanishing (fully or partly) and coming back as it pleases.

Rebooting the game fixes it. It is worth noting that the sound keeps working on other applications (such as teamspeak or my music if it's running), it's really something in the game.

I've also had this problem, I've found the /reloadui fixes the issue for a short while. Although requires a game restart to clear completely for a few hours.

Add me to the list. I have the sound problem, plus occasionally spell effects are constantly 'lit' on my weapon. Both are fixed by relogging.

And, like Cherryblossom said, a reloadui can sometimes fix the sound problem but in not nearly as stable a way as just relogging.

I have this as well. Just posted in a similar thread about missing voice overs which in fact likely is linked to this issue. A relog helps but sometimes the issue comes back only after 5-10 minutes of gameplay.

I'm on onboard sound as well and don't have this issue.

Might I suggest you uninstall any drivers that has to do with sound and go on your motherboard's website to download the proper drivers? That might help.

If you need insight as to where to find those, just list your motherboard model on here and I'll help.

I am not convinced this is audio driver related however it is interesting that some do not seem to be affected. The reason I do not think it is driver related is because I have two separate audio devices using different drivers (VIA Audio and Corsair) and both display the same issue.

I have the same exact issue. After playing for about an hour the NPC VO will start cutting out, then sfx like footsteps, then music and ambient environment sounds. Restarting the game will fix it, temporarily.

I have zero issues in other games or in any other way audio related. All drivers are up to date.

I did not have this issue at all in beta or early access, it was only when I made it to stone falls in release did it start.

I've submitted a bug report and a support ticket.

I disabled my 2nd (virtual, not physical) soundcard (which I'm not using for TESO anyway) and I haven't managed to run into this issue again. Either random luck or the game was getting confused with audio devices (or ninja patch).

*Right click on the audio icon > playback devices > disable everything you don't need. Same with recording devices. Worth a shot, you can just toggle stuff back on seamlessly if anything breaks.

I have this issue also and have had since day one of early access. I have a ROG Xonar Phoebus soundcard with the latest drivers (7.0.1.35) under Windows 7 64bit.

Hopefully this will get addressed soon!

Problem still happened during peak times this evening. Again, it only comes up when there is a very heavy load on the server. I have a feeling it is lag/server side for sure.
  • siralzeron_ESO
Happens to me too and I know it must be a problem within the game because only the NPC dialogue disappears. I can still hear the game music playing and all my other applications work. I can hear 1 NPC talk but other doesn't, then other talks and the 1st NPC won't talk. It's getting really annoying because it keeps cutting into the story.

Yep, this is a real issue.

Sign me up here too. Random loss of some sound (running/riding noises and footprints and armor sounds) some times, other times, entire loss of all game sound.

I tend to lose footprint/dialogue audio, it usually comes back after I stop for a few seconds or go inside a building/interact with something

    Same here.
Seems to occur at random in my case, usually it fixes itself after a loading screen or logging out and back in.

I noticed this for the first time last night, voiced dialog and sound effects disappeared, came back, went away again and then came back for no apparent reason at all.
  • lee.vanderlipub17_ESO
I'm having the exact same issue. I never had this during beta and it only recently cropped up after the last patch. When I'm in Vulkhel Guard around the blacksmith/clothier area I will loose dialog with NPC's and then loose all my footsteps, horse sounds, pretty much everything except music. It's getting extremely frustrating and hope that they acknowledge this bug soon because it really screws up the ESO immersion. I love the game and would just like this taken care of :(

I've gone so far as to uninstall the beta client and reinstall the retail client. I've done multiple repairs and have made damn sure all my drivers are updated... This has to be something on their end.

For sure on their end, keep reporting it so they won't ignore it. Thanks!
