XP scrolls often expire while logged off

I've been watching this for a while now and its an undeniable fact. Do you have to completely log out of the game?
They are expiring while logged out to character select screen.

Highly unlikely. Food/Drink buffs and XP Potions/Scrolls have their timers stop as soon as you log out. Make sure you don't leave your character AFK, as this will keep the timer going down.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭I have had my suspicions on this. I admit I dont always check the amount of time I have left. But, it seems that if I dont wait the 10 seconds to log out, the game does decriment the timer long after I closed the game.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

✭✭I have noticed this too with a new character I am power leveling. I thought that it might have been me just not paying attention to how much time I got left but happens a good amount of the time.2 -

This would actually explain why I've never experienced it. I've rarely, if ever, not waited the 10 seconds to log off normally since I'll usually log onto my main after I'm done putting levels on an alt.0 -

✭✭✭✭I logged of my tank way back when after leveling it during jester festival. Logged back in almost a year later, the pie exp bonus was still active.

Raraaku✭✭✭✭That was going to be my question: Do you wait the full 10 seconds to logout/quit. Not sure if it works on the logout if you're logging onto a different character; however, if you're force quitting then your still logged onto the server. Which means your account will be logged once the AFK timer expires, which is rather lengthy (10+ minutes).Back from a much needed break. || I like having too many projects and working on them all at once.

Its simple, i note the time remaining then log out normally to the character select screen waiting for the process to complete and several times when i log the alt back in later the XP buff has gone.

fgoron2000✭✭✭✭the thing is that if you bypass the 10 seconds, you get out of the game, BUT, your character is still logged in, and that'll eat up the scroll...so if you have a scroll, or any kinda buff that you don't wanna waste, you'll need to wait for the 10 seconds (which for me is usually about 5-10 seconds after it counts to 0), or else the buff will still count down for the character, because the character is still on the clock...
btw, the same thing appeared to happen to me on rare occasions before as well, but it never occurred to me what was causing it until now when i read this thread
PS: they do give you a warning about logging out before the 10 seconds, but it is a bit poorly worded, in that they don't make clear that if you disconnect right away, then your character will be still logged in. It's just by memory, but I believe the warning says something about you being still logged in...semantics, but i can see where that can mislead players...it did me for a while before I realized what it meantEdited by fgoron2000 on August 15, 2018 7:54PM0 -

Could be a bug that has the experience buff internal timer carry over with you to your other characters rather than pausing when you log out of that particular character. Have you tried to completely logout to the main menu and then login and switch characters to see if that pauses the timer? As for myself, I have never observed problems with buff timers after logging out and then logging back in.0 -

Thats basically what I was wondering when I asked if I should be logging right out of the game rather than leaving it at the character select screen. But then I get disconnected for inactivity after a short while anyway

If it was pretty straightforward then people wouldn't be asking how you logged off then. Looks like I am not the only one who can't read your mind.
Have you put in a ticket to Zenimax to see if they can refund you that one XP buff/scroll?

cheops✭✭✭Not yet, my first instinct was to find out if this was a known problem. I started noticing it when the Gold Coast scrolls started dropping with the daily rewards and I had the notion to carry on power levelling an alt using crown scrolls. I generally use up the gold coast scrolls before I log the alt out because they are gone in an hour. The instances in which I am certain this has happened have been with crown scrolls.0

✭✭Yes i'm seeing this as well its pretty random and its not just logging off sometimes its entering delves or solo dungeons as well they just vanish..
I changed characters yesterday and the exp scroll was gone i assumed it wasn't account bound when i re-logged in on the original character it was still gone..
The above is true as well and its not all delves or dungeons but more often its those quests that zone you to multiple places that wipe them from you..Edited by DanteYoda on August 16, 2018 4:06AM1 -

✭✭✭✭✭Doesn't zoning around use up time as if you were actually moving there without using wayshrines? I think I remember a friend who played from beta forward for a couple of years saying that. If it's true (and I actually have no idea if it is) that could account for some of the scroll decay.0 -
