i think there should be combat companions in the game...they can be either capable of minor tanking, minor heals, or minor damage...VERY minor for each...so they can help on pve quests and such and because theyre more into what is happening in game, it feels more intuitive and realistic than the ones we have now...those who dont want the companions, dont have to use them, and in pvp they can either have very low health, or simply become more like the current companions...but i solo a lot and think it would be cool if i have an actual person with me that does stuff other than watch me...

I think that's called, "making a friend." They're all over the place, and at least some of them are usually happy to go adventuring with you.

You're trying to change a core mechanic of the game because you don't want to play with other people. You picked up an MMO game, and expected to be able to play without ever interacting with anyone else? That's not going to happen.

Not much of an argument given a lot of stuff in MMORPGs like ESO has already changed the core mechanics of what an MMORPG is. (hint: 4 man instanced dungeon minigames are not massively multiplayer and not set in the persistent world)

I suppose this would be ok, if it was not allowed in competitive areas like maelstrom or trials. If you want a weak healer to follow you around to world bosses then sure I wouldn’t care.

I would like to see a companion system implemented too.

Aside from the benefits to game play - it also helps to bring the characters to life.

those who dont want the companions, dont have to use them..

Those who dont want guildmates, dont have to join a guild.

But that's a conscious choice you're making. You shouldnt be supplemented with an NPC companion beyond what is currently available for Pet Sorcs and/or the Warden Bear just because of your own lack of effort to find other in-game players to experience content with.

What's it to you what I have following me?

No, no NOOOO! It's a pain in pvp to shot that damn warden/mage player instead of his pet, so no way!

theres already stuff like that in game. Theyre called friends, or guildies cause you know....this is an MMO.

i have no friends, and i solo a lot

I solo a lot too, and I still manage to make friends on a blue moon. If you want "combat companion NPCs", roll a warden or a sorcerer, or pretend the nightblade shade is your imaginary friend, but this is an MMO first and foremost, and you're going to have to work with real people on the other side of the screen to get the most out of this game.

i solo more than u do...there are other mmos with combat companions...so not everyone shares your narrow mindset...you have yet to explain why this is bad, and youre only resorting to "this is an mmo...make friends or be a warden...no one cares than many other mmos have this...i dont want it in my mmo"

    grow up

I don't much appreciate your personal attacks towards me. You've got your answer, you might have picked up the wrong game if you don't enjoy it as it is.

by ur logic, no one should ever criticize a game they play

How is that a core mechanic? It's already in the game... Some quests have followers that fight or heal, but barely any amount to be significant... But it adds to the lore and in-game experience... Also other mmos have it... So ur bit about not picking up an mmos if I want a follower makes no sense

i think ur confusing a summon with a companion...companions can be used by anyone...summons? not so much

Anyone can roll a Sorcerer. I submit the entire population of Cyrodil as proof.

Also, learn to use your shift key and the word "you're".

    A summon isn't a companion... You're confused

Honestly I wouldn't mind the option to have a companion , having said that I remember in Fallout 4 companions were constantly getting in the way and attacking people when I would have rather sneaked by ...lol.

I always play solo because I like to do things my way but often help others if they look as if they are struggling in a fight, as they do me

I doubt it will happen but nothing wrong in wishing.

Companions or heroes worked well in Guild Wars 1 as well. Still played with friends a lot but bringing henchmen or heroes to fill spots, as most PvE areas later in game required a group of 8.

There used to be Brigand and Mage mercenaries that you could summon in PVP via a contract..
Blobs uses them in the video here

I wouldn't care if other players had a companion follow them around with a few caveats. They disappear in towns and crafting areas. Hard enough dodging flying pets when trying to craft something in town. They disappear when you join a group or enter PvP areas. The companion reacts only to the evil doer you are currently fighting. It doesn't run off on its own to play with the trash while you are playing with a boss. No Orcs in a wedding dress. Oh and editing for this...if he/she dies you have to use a soul gem to bring them back.

Instead of just disappearing when you enter a town or city your companion, or companions, just walk off toward the local tavern saying something about getting a drink. And then they can disappear.

For everyone who said to make friends or that its against MMO mechanics or whatever, it is not unheard of for mmos to have a companion system that can be summoned in overworld content. One example is FF14 which had the Chocobo that can fill in as a Tank, dps, or healer and is completely customizable, and cannot be taken into anything that isn't overworld content, e.g. no pvp, dungeons, trials, or solo instances.

As for the game mechanics part, there are several quests that allow you to chose from npcs to help you in battle but only in a specific area and duration of quests.

Just look at NWO, in that game you have to work your a$$ out to put all sort of boons into your assistant. To level him (unlock level caps), to get his gear, to level the gems you put in his gear... And you can circumvent most of these things by selling enough AD to purchase want you want, and you get AD by selling Zen stuff or farming if you don't have a life. And you get Zen from? guess what? Real money.

It just creates another way for Pay2Shortcut and additional inequality between newbies and vets.

    In summary: No thanks!

we sort of already have this:
    Maw of the Infernal Set
(1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
(2 items) When you deal damage with a Light or Heavy Attack, you have a 10% chance to summon a fire breathing Daedroth for 15 seconds. The Daedra's basic attacks deals 4257 Flame Damage. This effect can occur once every 15 seconds.

i love going to battle with my buddy danny the deadroth...
